Yeah, having to hold the trainer button isn't something I'm fond of. I wish it were a toggle switch. Nonetheless, I'm happy to hear that the whole process is working for you. Have fun buddy!!!

Yes, I am serious. Greatful for your vid. It worked just like your video demonstrated. my brother was stoked. He hasn't flown since the 80's. Unfortunately, I didn't have an extra dsmx receiver so we couldn't buddy box his brand new plane. I flew it to trim it out, then let him fly. Then he wanted to take off by himself. On take off, he stalled it, clipped a tree and it came down. Damaged the vertical and horizontal stabs. Easy repair in time for next week Sunday.Mahalo!

Actually, you will need to use the trim switches on the slave transmitter to trim out the model you are flying.

Your welcome! Although I'm using a different plane, these days, I'm still using the same two transmitters and the same method to help teach inexperienced pilots to fly. Have fun flying!!!

You will leave the "slave" radio switch off. The master radio will be switched "ON". Plug in the trainer cable to both radios and the "slave" radio will turn on. I wish you the best of luck!!!

The master tx is the only tx that is bound to the rx. You simply have to have the master tx bound to the rx and have the trainer tx set to a "default" model. Once the master tx, in my case the DX8, is on Pilot Link Master, you simply have to have the trainer tx on a default model so that all the dual rates, expo's, etc are all at a default setting. Plug in the trainer cord and it should be "good to go". If you need further help, just ask. I'll try to help out. Flying with a buddy is pretty cool!!

Its been a while since I've had go do the buddy box but if I remember correctly, the master has all the appropriate settings and the slave will just have the default 100% settings. To be sure, set up your two radios for buddy box. The master will be bound to the model. With the master radio, check your throws to be certain that they are moving appropriately. Then press the BIND button, to transfer control to the slave and check that the throws are appropriate. This is a good practice to get in the habit of. That way you are certain everything is working.

+Dave Baril (AKCobra) I really wish I had a definite answer for you. I'm sure there is a way to use the buddy box for multirotors. It may be as simple as what you are saying. I just really don't know. Sorry buddy!

You can let the slave control the throttle or not. I don't. I keep it on the master and control it while my g/kids fly.

Actually, that's probably the one thing that I don't like about the DX8. That button. I sure do wish it was a switch, like the DX6i. To answer your question, you will have to press and hold the button, on the DX8, to give control to the DX6i. Then, when you want to take control of the plane, you simply let off the button and the DX8 has control. Take your plane and the two radios to your living room floor, or another nice open space and go ahead and set up the system as if you were going to use it. Then move the sticks with the DX8 and see the control surfaces move. Then press the button and see that the DX8 no longer moves the control surfaces, the DX6i will move them. Just go ahead and set it up a few times, that way you are getting into the habit of what to do. Before each flight, just double check (pre-flight check) that both radios are working properly with the plane. Best of luck to you, Jerry! Feel free to keep the questions coming as they arise.

Mackenzie Clarke I don't have any experience with the 4 channel radios, so I don't know how much help I'll be but....try this....turn on the radio that you want as the "master" and plug in the trainer cable. Then the other radio that you want as the "slave", don't turn it on and plug in the cable. If this works like I think it might, the "slave" will recognize that the cable has been plugged in and it should turn on...then you should have full control on the "master" radio and then when you press the Trainer switch, it should allow control to go to the "slave" radio. Be sure to fully test the motor and all control surfaces with both radios while on the ground. If it does work, then you should be in good shape. If it doesn't work, I'd suggest calling Horizon Hobby for further assistance. Good luck!

Your 4Ch Tx has to have the TRAINER capability. If it doesn't, you can't BUDDY BOX it.

You may have setup the I switch for something else.

to replace the button with a toggle wouldn't be all that hard. just open up the tx and unsolder the button....solder in New toggle. however, I like having the button because, if I need to regain control, I simply release the button.

If your Tx has the capability, just reassign the function to a switch. I use a switch on my DX18 instead of the I button.

Actually, no, the slave tx does not need to be bound to the plane. It uses the signal from the master tx. I hope it helps you!
