As hilarious as the scene is. Asgardians have a trait called the "Allspeak" Basically they can understand any language as if it's their native tongue. And it's perceived as the language of the listener. So in Groot's language, his name is literally "Tree" so Thor wasn't being disrespectful, it's simply that he was giving the literal meaning of the name in English. Rogers, being the polite guy he is. Assumes Thor is being impolite, especially by the anger in Groot's voice and the rather vicious takedown he just performed. So, trying to calm the waters between potential allies. He introduces himself as he assumes Groot is doing. Without that knowledge the scene is still hilarious, but with that knowledge, it takes on new meaning... and is even funnier.
