Spellbound, for the Commodore 64 - Magic Knight's second game after Finders Keepers)sees him travelling through time to rescue 8 people including his tutor Gimbal, who have become locked in time thanks to a faulty spell. In comparison to its predecessor the game has a larger game map, bigger and better graphics and more puzzles.
The game invented a whole new control system called Windimation, essentially pioneering the use of icons and windows in adventure games. You control a pointing finger, which can be moved onto each of the menus to reveal sub-menus, which contain the main options for object manipulation.
All objects can be examined in detail, which produces a visual display of them, and possible clues as to their usage. You must look after your character's health and energy levels - carrying too many objects will progressively weaken him. You must also look after and direct the trapped characters once you locate them.

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite channels. It's rare to find good quality creator content focusing on the retro micro computer scene in Europe. I remember this game as a kid. I was terrible at it, and all the characters would starve because I had clue what I supposed to do. But the open gameplay and exploration were mind-blowing for me at the time. It eventually led to me enjoying Batman: The Caped Crusader, Blinky's Scary School and of course the Dizzy games.

Very kind of you to say - the Dizzy games were all great, we were all obsessed with Dizzy where I lived. My friends had more of them on the ZX Spectrum than I did for the C64, but I've played them all over the years. Definitely need to add more 'Dizzy' titles to the channel sometime soon 😇🕹️👌

I absolutely adore Rob Hubbard's music for Spellbound. I think he said this was his favourite of his own tunes as well.

I should definitely look for the Magic Knight games for my Commodore 64 😹👍. They even have the brilliant soundtracks 🎵🎶, such as from David Whittaker (KNIGHT TYME) and Rob Hubbard (SPELLBOUND) 😺👍🕹️.

I'd say they're the top 2 musicians for the C64, I'd rate Rob Hubbard No.1 however, he pioneered many of the effects used on the SID chip and his soundtracks are uniquely unmistakable.

Richard Darling was one of the 2 developers before he founded Codemasters with his brother that later became part of EA. Better than many full priced games, it cost £2.99 instead of £1.99, but it was definitely more than worth it and the awesome soundtrack made it a real classic.

40 plus years later, 40+ year old C64 games are STILL getting magazine style reviews. No one can tell me the the C64 wasn't special. It's the veritable definition of: Legendary Home Computer. What an awesome job you and your YT channel are doing sir. Thank you.

I remember buying this for my Atari 130XE, which I later replaced with a C64, when I was about 8-9 years old and didn't know a word of English. I had to use a tiny English-Swedish travel dictionary with miniscule text and didn't get very far before giving up.

@@CheekyCommodoreGamer - Same. So atmospheric. It always felt bigger than it actually was. Bard’s Tale and Times of Lore were technically bigger/better games, but none bring back the same sense of nostalgia that Master of Magic does.
