Sis. Marie, AsSalaamAlaikum, your presentations are so much on point. You convey a respect for your wonderful country and its wonderful people. Showing how to respect, greet, interact and conduct oneself in your country and all of Mother Africa is something that we visitors need. Westerners, in many instances, do not understand or appreciate the fact that they are culturally ignorant, especially when interacting in another’s country. Gambians that I’ve met are polite, gracious, humble , very proud of their country and a great pleasure to be around. As a Muslim , from the US, I really enjoy your insight , meaning that you seen to have a understanding of Westerners . I really look forward to visiting TheGambia , performing Salat and enjoying the company of the Gambian Ummah. I hope, pray and plan on a one way ticket- lol! AsSalaamAlaikum

Wa aleykum salam wa rahmatoulah! Thank you so much for your message brother, it made me smile! :D And I love your points, they are very valuable and important - just as it should be. When you do to a country, you're stepping into other peoples' way of living and lifestyle. It's very important to respect it and also learn from it. Not just walk with arrogance you know! I hope you get your one way ticket soon lol, good luck!

@@africandiaries You usually cant differentiate them. The beauty of the Senegambia is you will run into people who have both Christian and Muslim relatives. I am Muslim but I have an uncle who decided to be Christian because his mother is Christian. He is my blood and my uncle. Additionally, through friendship Christians/Muslim will name their children after their Christian/Muslim friends. I am a Senegalese currently living in the USA, but I did attend the Senegalese High School in Kanifin for 5 five years and I consider myself as a Gambian. I would love to have a house in the Gambia. The Gambia is my second home.

Thank you sis well stipulated.Good job.There is a big gapped between the rich and the poor in the Gambia , as you rightly mentioned, people should expect to see these discomforts ,they are not interventional, but are necessities for survival. I have been there, selling and studying for my GCSE . It would be very appreciative if those who are privileged to provide sponsorship especially in meeting educational needs. Tourist can ask local hotel workers for guide and also help them find needy families. Staying with local family would make a valuable experience, as Gambians are friendly and generous despite the poverty, but have in mind food and water as advised. See your doctor for malaria advice before travelling. Enjoy the smiling coast- The Gambia

I appreciate your message brother Adama! Well spoken - it is a reality and that was exactly what I was trying to say. Not to depict Gambia in a negative way but to shine light on the truth. I'm so sad having to see children going through this just to manage their day to day lives and go to school... it breaks my heart seriously!! And yes - staying with families and seeing their perspective and realities of life might even change our own!

I love your cool the way you explain things, and your use of the expression "extended family" sounds honest... what is the average cost of a hotel? a meal in a restaurant? are there possibilities for work as a foreigner?
@africandiaries
@africandiaries 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you soo much! Yes, I love the concept of "extended family" because I see it as us all being family!😄😄 The hotel/motel costs can be pricey.. but it depends on what standard you're looking for. We rented a motel for a month for 900dalasis/night a couple of years ago - and we loved it! When it comes to the meals - you can buy traditional food or also like pizzas and burgers normally around 150-400 dalasis, also depending on where you go! And yes, there are possibilities of work in The Gambia. Though they can be limited at times. What area are you talking about here?😊

Great video! Thank you for those tips. Would you recommend that visitors to Gambia dress as the locals do? Coming from the United States, our dress is often immodest and could be offensive. What would you recommend?
@africandiaries
@africandiaries 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you John! It's my pleasure!😄 As African diasporans, I do recommend us to go back to Africa and adapt to the customs as much as possible. It's all "us", we are not separated. And inorder for us to live and experience the culture - dresscode has to definitely be included😁😁🎉🎉
@adamabah1035
@adamabah1035 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for being considerate, you arec really not selfish. Even though some Gambians don't dress up appropriately, it would be respectful to wear below knee shorts and tea shirts with shirt sleeves if you feeling hot .This is for men am talking about by the way
@adamabah1035
@adamabah1035 3 жыл бұрын
There is no dress code as such in the Gambia ,even though the majority are Muslims, many are laxed with the religion especially dressing up. So don't expect to see all hijabs and kaftans, but western and local dress mixed up. Hijabs are on the rise though. Would urge you to respectfully do your part
