It's interesting that "kaiysy" means apricot in Turkish language too as in Moldovan language.

There are many words we 'borrowed' from those times when Balkans were under Ottoman empire. Just a couple from top of my head: mahala (tr. mahallesi), chiftea (tr. köfteler), geantă (tr. çanta), chioșc (tr. köşk). Spelling is differemt, but meaning in most cases is the same :) So don't be surprised that fruits of oriental origin maintained their names :)

I would have no problem finding food I like in Moldova. Even if you are vegetarian there are a lot tasty looking items.

Do it! You have regular shuttles from the capital to various towns and villages in the countryside. I was lucky enough experience that myself earlier this april and loved it!

I was 2 times there good coffee houses and clubs in Chisinau and people on country side rides on old but cool motorbikes. So modern and past at the same time.
