This is one of the movies out there that I can constantly watch and never get tired of. Never understood the hate for it.

Thanks for the comprehensive review of this movie! It's part of my tag team of favorite tension scifi horror films along with Event Horizon, Alien, The Thing, and The Void.

One of the best sci-fi novels of all time, this film was a missed opportunity. So many great story elements left out of the movie.

@@lowserver2 there were a lot of additional manifestations that were not in the film and a bunch of other smaller details. They explored the ship a lot more in the novel and Dustin Hoffman's character goes into the sphere and has an interaction with the entity inside which is described in more detail.

I haven't seen the more recent miniseries of The Andromeda Strain, so I couldn't say, but after seeing the original movie, I've always wanted a more solid version done of that (and I guess Sphere). Don't have any reason to think the miniseries is bad, but Crichton's stuff hasn't often enjoyed the best screen adaptations, sorta like PKD).

MC's adaptations have had mixed results, few have had the global effect Jurassic Park did. If Sphere should get the remake treatment I wouldn't be opposed because it would give the original film attention.

So, I just watched this movie for the first time as an adult, after being scarred by one scene as a teen involving a dead body, maybe I was flipping through channels or something. So I finished the book today, started up the movie, thought it had its moments was overall kinda 4.5/10... Nearing the end, and thinking "Did I misinterpret an earlier scene as being way creepier than I thought it was? Oh well, kids scare so easy." And then boom, the scene where Barnes' body appears out of nowhere and washes up against Beth, and he's waterlogged and rotting and yellow, and she's screaming bloody murder as the sound effects fade out to creepy piano music and his head is flopping around as if his neck is snapped. This is just as disturbing to see as a 37 year old man as a 15 year old kid. It's so out of place in this movie, where the rest of the horror is a bunch of killer jelly fish and sea snakes and a giant squid that wasn't included in the effects budget. Sure the earlier deaths were icky but they were mostly played as tragedy and not used for like, a "jump disturb." Fuckin' A, man.

Read the book a dozen times and definitely enjoyed the movie. Yes, it's not perfect but it has a lot of great atmosphere and twists. Also, regarding the book ending, I actually interpreted it as Norman keeping the power since he's a psychologist (and has the most capabilities to control, esp. after everyone else kept dunking on him for being only a 'shrink') and that Norman actually made Beth look beautiful to make her feel better about herself.

Sam J must’ve had a 1 day shoot lol. I remember watching this the day it came out and my mama, brother and myself left the movie feeling cheated. I rewatched it last for the first time and still hated it but I did like the 90s charm of it.

i also saw this with friends.....great movie....its on showtime i saw it again last night, i have to finish the last 10 mins......this and EVENT HORIZON BOTH DID NOT MAKE MONEY BUT HAVE PROVED TO LAST WITH TIME!!

Yep yep. It's an American space ship that got caught in a Black Hole after retrieving the Sphere and it then "arrived" on Earth in the middle of the ocean. Thanks for watching the video!

Is it this movie? This is the 3rd video with the same 'type' of review... The first two the reviewers tried to say something 'funny' every few seconds and this one is inserting clips of the Simpsons...why?
