In this Physics video in Hindi for Class 10 we explained spherical lens and its types. Spherical lenses are of two types, viz., convex lens and concave lens. We
A convex lens is a lens that possesses at least one surface that curves outwards. It is a converging lens. A concave lens is thinner at itsedges than its centre.
A concave lens is a lens that possesses at least one surface that curves inwards. It is a diverging lens, meaning that it spreads out light rays that have been refracted through it. A concave lens is thinner at its centre than at its edges.
Plano-convex lenses are positive focal length elements that have one spherical surface and one flat surface.
Plano-concave lenses are negative focal length elements that have one spherical surface and one flat surface.
The centre of sphere of part of which a lens is formed is called the centre of curvature of the lens.
Optical centre is the geometrical center of the lens.
Principal axis is the line joining the centers of curvature of the two surfaces of the lens.
A principle focus of a convex lens is defined as the point on the principal axis on which the light rays coming parallel to the principal axis converge after getting refracted from the convex lens.
The principal focus of a concave lens is that point on the principal axis on which the rays of light that get diverged after refraction through the lens, when produced backwards, tend to meet.
