Spice & Wolf is a gem of a series. It's got your standard medieval fantasy setting, but instead of the focus being on brave knights or adventurers, it's actually about a merchant and the plot is largely focused on economy and trade with elements of romance. The chemistry between the two leads is also excellent, though it is based on a novel, so that's sorta to be expected. And if you watch the Japanese version, you can hear proper old-timey Japanese, since the actress playing the wolf girl went to the trouble of learning it.

This series is a MASTERPIECE. The novels are so great. You'll definitely love this one. A scene in episode 5 will completely blow you away. It's about an abandoned harvest god who meets a traveling merchant and they go towards her homeland, making a promise to help each other on the way. Holo is a wolf, so she doesn't feel the need to wear clothes. She only does to blend in with humans. She actually took those clothes for herself, without Lawrence's permission. XD The ending art is done by the artist of the light novels, if I'm not mistaken. Oh, she's a wolf, alright. You get to hear her howl at the moon in the first episode.

1:40 btw, fun fact: the publisher made a mistake/a typo translating the (sub)title: it said "S&W: Merchant *meats* (not meets) Spicy Wolf". And it stuck so well they only fixed it with the upcoming new anime. And iirc, the title comes from one of the books the author used for research - "Gold and Spice - The Rise of Commerce in the Middle Ages".

Ah Spice and Wolf! This was my first anime! Nice to see it getting some love. I'm very excited for the remake coming out in the spring 😄

Yeah, Spice and Wolf is mostly romance anime, but at the same time it's more than that. It has drama, adventures, merchant plot as well, and the story in complete is an absolute masterpiece. I have almost 20 animes I consider as favourites and that's the only 'romance' in the list, which says a lot. I was really skeptical about this one, but fall in love with the show and the characters after the first episode. Yes, it hasn't many fights and magic as such, but the show can be described as a low fantasy. The main character, Holo, is really looking more like a fox, but she's a wolf, and it's a common misconception people think about this show😄 She's also a God of harvest. I really think Spice and Wolf is the show totally worth watching, though being slow and smooth sometimes (in a best way possible, for me). Love it. Thanks for your reaction. She's one of my favorite Charakters to this date. The Story never ended in the Anime Seasons. There is an upcoming remake that starts in April. It will have an art style more closely to the light novels. The Series and characters feel more adult and I hold it in high regard even after so many years. It gets really heavy on the economy though and they talk a lot about it. I did not understand everything at the time without some research. So this could be a turn-off for some.

Openings of Spice and Wolf has a lot of symbolism and character traits told by scene composition and colouring. It's awesome if you dive deep into the opening. The series itself is one of my favourites. I don't like much how they changed 2nd season to anime only ending, but I own the whole series in manga format. It's amazing story.

Great reactions to my favorite series of all time in every media. This series is the complete package in terms of story, romance, development, etc. I highly recommend watching the new remake of this beautiful series this upcoming year!

This is such a special anime in so many peoples hearts, it wasn't (only 2 seasons adapted) but it has such a profound impact on people, I was 18 when I first watched it now I'm 28 and I'm still looking forward to watching the new adaptation

You should check out Ina from hololive's cover of the first op. She made the whole mv herself. It was so good that the author of the series tweeted about how amazing it was. That it was their favorite cover they have ever seen.

First of all you should put the upcoming re-make of the Spice & Wolf anime, starting in April 2024, on your to-react-to list! The first anime adaptation had two seasons and covered about four volumes of the light novels (of about 17 volumes back in the day, there are about 24 volumes now + some spin-off novels you shouldn't look up just yet because of spoilers). The story is the most fun way to learn about (but not necessarily "understand") economics and the "Wolf Girl" (yes, she actually is a wolf girl, not a fox) conquered the hearts of quite a few viewers/readers... The main selling point of the series is the interaction between the two main characters, making it a fun ride.

The Made in Abyss composer (Kevin Penkin ) is going to make the soundtrack for the Spice and Wolf remake that's coming out this year . If my hunch is correct they continue the story when they caught up to the material of the original release . Its been over a decade already so they should have more material by now .

This is one of those shows that on paper really shouldn't work but for some reason it just does. "Guy meets a girl and then they spend 12 episodes talking about economics and politics" sounds godawful boring but for some reason it just isn't. It's great. The soundtrack definitely helps though, it's amazing throughout the whole show.
