As soon as we saw Geri in her union jack outfit we knew it was going to be iconic.

I remember watching this live on TV. I became a massive fan, and have been since. As someone who only listened to rock and dismissed the spice girls as a manufactured girl band, this took me by surprise. They are a great act and a fantastic British export.

Here's a bit of bts trivia...Geri's union jack dress (which became a cultural sensation btw) was basically just a black dress at first but Geri thought she needed something to stand out, so she sewed a union jack towel on to the front of her dress and well....the rest is history folks....that's how most phenomenon's happen....by accident!

That was a fabulous moment in time to be alive! Nostalgia overload!

This Spice Girls performance was the debut of Geri's iconic Union Jack dress, which then became part of her Spice Girl image. So happy you did the SG, this performance was and is iconic. I remember watching it live on the night. It was so epic. They performed a couple other times at the Brits and sang live those times. Second time was the song Stop in 1998 and Goodbye/Spice Up Your Life in 2000 I believe.

It's funny, when my two little nieces were huge fans of the Spice Girls in the late 90s I would roll my eyes and think "what's the big deal?" LOL It was later that I started appreciating their sound and I still love them and their music 😆😎

Also on 2010 they won a special award for this particular performance as the best performance of the past 30 years of brit awards history. Do this was a big deal and still is.

This ‘basic’ performance shows how phenomenal Spice Girls are. You may take ‘basic’ as derogatory, but it’s not overly choreographed, styled, staged or sung live, but it’s brilliant and iconic. Pop girls today do way too much for a third of their success.

Can't explain to you the feeling you get watching this on TV when you're 15 in 1997, your mind just explodes, this was just one of the best performances ever for these girls

25+ years later and still iconic. I hope they give an US tour soon. They're celebrating 25 years of their album and kind of making some noise. I think they were gearing up to come here when covid hit, unfortunately. I tried to get tickets when they came in 98 but they sold out in minutes. it was insane. You should check out their 2012 Summer Olympics performance next. If you can, find their movie Spice World. Its so campy and funny.

Also I second the person who said look at steps. Started as a bit of a novelty group that was only really meant to have one song and originally were together from 1997 to 2001 then re m-formed in 2011 for a 2012 reunion tour and continue to release new music and perform sold out shows to this day. Very difficult to find a live performance from back in the day but their top of the pops performance of the song it’s the way you make me feel is live and it’s my favourite song. They also have some mega mix performances on a morning magazine show here called This Morning. Or they did another one at the Jubilee party. I hope you’ll look into them. They were forced to lip sync back in the day but always sing live now and they are amazing. You’ll love them.
