The great thing about this machine is I can tig weld aluminum vs using a spool gun on the mig welder. These AC/DC machines can cost upward of $3K. The video will show you how easy it is to get started in tig welding. We try to keep things as entertaining as possible on the Spicer Designs Channel. A tip for the gas. Usually your CFH comes from your cup size. Generally CFH = 2.5x your cup. So you used a number 6 cup equals 15 CFH. Too much gas is a bad thing. Also, if you’re right handed, try using your left foot for your pedal. Seems weird but an old timer told me that years ago. It works. Another thing. You want to get that puddle going within a couple of seconds. That’s why your weld is gray. Get a fast puddle and go. Tig isn’t as slow as people think. Overall, not bad for a beginner.

Thank you for the content I always look forward to what you have to up load. Your TIG welds are pretty good for a beginner and it’s commendable to see you showcase your welds here where the trolls will always look for something you do wrong. Feeding the filler rod is just something you have to practice over and over to keep it controlled. I couldn’t tell you how many times I stuck it to the electrode.

Super solid start for your first beads 1) maintain a short arc length! Approximately the distance from the work piece as of your tungsten 3/32 or less! Any longer or higher and affect multiple things i.e. shielding gas flow (gray oxidation) keep a tight arc focuses the heat on the work. Keep up the good work and burn some rod

Sure thing Man! Actually you should keep your torch in as close as you can w/o dipping your tungsten, then you should have the right amount of penetration and you will have better control of the weld pool. Dip filler rod between the tip of your tungsten and the leading edge of the pool for best results. Rock On 🤘

You need to keep your filler rod in the gas envelope, when you pull it back out into the open air you are grabbing and introducing contaminants into the weld. Its all just practice. I never wore a glove holding fill rod. Makes it wayyyyy easier to feed. If I was doing a short weld/stitch, I might not wear glove holding torch, unless the torch was getting fairly warm. Usually used a Miller stl 150 or 161.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 @ the nut buster creation there. Few suggestions. Anything Tig needs to be super clean. No mill scale, rust or anything like that only shiny bright material. That grey oxidised-looking welds just mean there has been to much heat input. Its not usually too many amps either. Its generally not enough amps and moving to slowly for beginners. Other than that the only thing you can do to get better is get lots of practice.

cpl tips. get a gas lens kit, (jody sells a nice set) truly makes a world of difference. keep your torch as close to vertical as possible, and keep as tight an arc length as possible without dipping. and when you see grey welds on steel plate that means you're too hot. looks fine otherwise.

Tip: Your tungsten electrode doesn't look very sharp. The sharper it is the more focused will be your arc and the easier it will be to weld. There is always a tendency to keep pushing on as the tip gradually dulls. Careful with the dust when grinding the tungsten--it is toxic. A Tungsten Electrode Sharpener Grinder is inexpensive these days and if used with dust collection would be a good investment. It would also encourage you to keep the electrode sharp and would provide consistent pointing.
