So, Insomniac just released a new 10 minute long gameplay segment for Spider-Man 2, and it looks incredible. They showcased a new trailer for Kraven the Hunter, the design for the Black Suit, Symbiote abilities and combat, seamless switching between Peter Parker and Miles Morales, Slingshots, Web Wings, the Lizard, new gadgets, and so much more. And so today I wanted to go through the trailer and point out some of the things you may have missed and my thoughts on everything new that we learned.

I think the Thicc layer of symbiote that appears before the actual suit reveal is so that the game can transition between any variation of suit designs without needing to have unique animations for every symbiote suit

It's funny to think how much the 90's Spider-Man Animated Series has influenced future adaptations of Spider-Man by having the black suit affect Peter's behaviour in a negative way or "corrupting" him unlike in the comics where it only used his body when he was asleep and yet almost all future animated adaptations, games and even movies have used that cocept.

the parrying mechanic is definitely gonna play a huge role in the inevitable venom boss fight, since venom doesn’t trigger spider-sense

I really like how parts of the black suit almost looks like the dermal armor of a horn-beetle or a scarab. It feels a little more bug-like, more predatory. I personally think that’s really cool.

I'm actually not too much of a fan of that but it's fine with me. Like he said, I'm sure we'll get other black suit variants. I like the two tone finish though with the main part being smooth and the others being rough. Kinda like the Raimi black suit where you could still distinguished where the red parts are supposed to be and same for the blue part.

Kraven hunting the Lizard is obviously a misdirect. I think he’s using Doctor Connors as a distraction while he breaks into the raft to interrogate Kingpin. Why Kingpin, you ask? Because the hunter is KRAVEN a McRib, and that’s his main character motivation in the story. Also congrats Olivia!

Like in the latter half of the game Peter’s gonna be beating the snot out of Kraven, Miles comes in to stop him from killing him and Peter’s all like- “WHERE IN THE HELL IS MY MCRIB MILES?!”

I've always speculated that the iron spider legs we see in the first trailer are going to be the replacements for the black suit powers when we inevitably lose the black suit, that definitely seems like the angle they're taking

I loved the part at the end where you can see him doubt if he should go save the people from the helicopter or go chase the lizard. It shows that he still cares about people but is close to just going his own selfish way. Great game already.

Something else the showcase implies is Miles might be the one to bring Peter back into the light and free him from the Symbiote, which really excites me. The last game gave Miles really good character growth in my opinion and his relationship with Peter is a really special friendship and mutual respect for one another. If anyone is gonna convince Peter to get rid of the suit, I'm more than happy for it to be Miles

A few notes: • It's likely that the parry will be activated by double tapping L1. This way it doesn't occupy any of the face buttons and doesn't need a cooldown. • We only see Miles use his new blue bio-electric abilities in this demo, which don't take up any of his Venom/Focus meter. However, the meter is still colored yellow and has Venom-like animations, which suggests that his standard yellow Venom abilities will still use that meter. • Finishers now once again use the Focus/Venom meter, instead of being banked once you hit certain combo benchmarks. • It's been confirmed in a few places that you'll be able to switch from Peter to Miles at the press of a button (implying it'll be something like D-Pad right)

I'm 10000% sure the fuzzy thing where the suit fully wraps around him before showing the suit underneath is just the transition animation and it reveals whatever venom suit you pick, or if they really want to a venomized version of the suit you're wearing

The black suit always seemed like a metaphor for drugs, so Peter getting it right after May’s death would be perfect timing. He should push everyone away and then have to deal with the ramifications of his actions. The suit just enhanced his anger, it doesn’t create it

Yeah, the symbiote arc works best when Peter is at his lowest. This is the same reason why I’m excited for Tom Holland’s Spidey to eventually get a version of the black suit because he is also in a similar situation.

I love the black suit design I’m not usually a fan of the goop but this does it well and if Peter and miles do fight I would rather play as Peter I think that’s a lot more impactful Peter beats up miles and then realizes what he’s done

Honestly I think you hit the nail on the head with this one in how well summarized at the end you were. This game really does just need to be "Spider-Man 2" and I think a ton of people were expecting them to essentially entirely change multiple things from the first, like Graphics, swinging, and a few other things. When it's not realistic for them to change anything, really only add onto it(also side note, the people complaining that there aren't any new swinging animations seem to just completely ignore that Insomniac did make an ENTIRELY new traversal with the web wings)

Exactly. My thing with people complaining that the swinging is the same is that, Peter has been Spider-Man for nearly 10 years at this point: homie has likely perfected his swing and would have no logical reason of changing it.

@@derwunderjizz9249 Peter being spider-man for 10 years isn't a valid excuse to reuse the exact same animations as the first game, there's so much more they can do with web swinging so I hope the developers are just hiding the good stuff or they at least still have time to work on it more, the first game's webswinging isn't perfect and there's a lot they could do to improve it because as of right now? it feels like modders have done a better job with Peter's webswinging while Insomniac has had 5 years to do theirs, it would be disappointing if they did fuck all with the webswinging

Me personally, I’m interested in how the origin of the Green Goblin is going to play out in this leading into the 3rd game. Maybe Norman and Peter start off working together to cure Harry, but I’m predicting that Harry will die due to Peter’s actions while under the symbiote, which will break Norman mentally and cause him to swear revenge on Peter by destroying everything he loves, leading into Spider-Man 3. I also like how the shot where Peter enters with 4 tendrils extended out kinda makes him look like Doc Ock, symbolic of how the symbiote is driving a wedge between Peter and Miles like Otto’s arms did with him. I’m fine with the reused animations but I hope that they add brand new animations since I feel like Peter’s swinging feels somewhat old compared to Miles’ swinging, which feels more smooth and fluid. I really just want the swinging to have higher skill ceiling but I don’t think that’s happening.

They didn’t show swinging in the city at all. They are clearly keeping things from us. Btw idk why people expect a revamped game with all new mechanics. It’s a sequel. All they can do is improve on what they built. Ofc you will see old animations. Just like Batman Arkham or God of War

@@ID0XX the thing is this though: the swinging looks functionally identical to the previous two games except it has a speed boost. i'll try to articulate what i mean but i apologize if this doesn't end up making much sense. as soon as the web is shot it feels like spider-man is on rails, he has a set speed and direction the game wants him to go, which would be fine if it had any logic or physics at all, but it doesn't. what we see is a sudden snap in downward momentum as soon as the web is launched, spider-man STILL hovering above the ground (or water) if the arc is too low, and spider-man completely defying physics by turning left when his web is attached to his right or vice versa, it makes him look like he's flying and takes any control, excitement, and risk out of the player's hands. this results in an experience where you turn your brain off and i kind of hate it. i have the same problem with the wingsuit, it looks fucking awesome up until miles goes into the "wind tunnel" then he's literally just flying on rails and it looks damn stupid if you ask me. i keep bringing these issues up but everybody just tells me my expectations are too high, is this reallt too much to ask for? people had these complaints about the first game's swinging when it first came out and insomniac didn't seem to listen to the criticism at all. i feel like whenever i bring these concerns up people just write me off as a hater, but i'm quite the opposite. i'm probably one of the biggest spider-man fans out there and i'm unbelievably excited for this game, but i also want it to be the best it can be, but it looks like it might be held back by the frankly outdated assisted swinging mechanics. i hope they add a hardcore swinging difficulty for people like me, that way everybody can have what they want. i hope this rant makes sense, it's coming from a long time spidey fan and someone who has played every one of his games to death. :)

@@mickellis925 I see what you’re saying but in the demo they only web swinged one time in the city. They were using cranes to web swing over the water and I can see how that would have to have the same animations as the last game. There wasn’t much texture to swing on in the demo. Some of the things like the hud and wind tunnel indicator will definitely not be as eye popping as they are in the demo. they just want you to see it much like the hud for the demo for the 2018 game Id say your expectations are to high right now. It’s a demo. The game doesn’t even have a launch date yet cause Insomiac is dedicated to perfection. Trust they see the feedback and improve on the CGI and huds and stuff but there will most likely be more swinging features. This demo was about showing all the new features as much as possible. As long as it’s some new stuff swinging wise I’m fine with it. At the end of the day it’s a sequel we will see a lot of things return because it is the foundation it’s up to Insomiac to build on it. I understand you tho.

4:50 I assumed this was because you can have different costumes for the symbiote, and they needed a way to dynamically change from whatever your base costume is to whatever your symbiote costume is.

Considering he has 135 HP in the demo, it’s safe to say that’s still within the first half of the game. Since the OG game topped out at 200 HP. So I think there’s plenty of time for the venom peter relationship to develop.

Well... it reaches 200HP on level 50. It doesn't actually top out at 200HP. On my youngest NG+ playthrough on PS4, I was at like 250HP.

With Miles not paying attention to the symbiote tendrils, I think it might be one of those moments where we see what's going on in the shadows, but Miles only realizes who it is and actually sees Peter once he's stepped into the slightly brighter view, and additionally, Miles might not be asking tons of questions about the colors and stuff because they are busy trying to find Dr. Connors or rather the Lizard, and so he already knows to focus on the main objective.

I think the "fuzzy" symbiote transition thing is just a way for the game to be able to switch between costumes. It's probably much harder to do an exact transition from the classic suit into the symbiote suit. So they just hide the suit with the fuzzy symbiote and then swap the model under it and then reveal it.

My belief is that Peter has had the suit once before in the past but he began noticing it was causing problems so he got rid of it but now has to put it on again (perhaps after finding it in Conners’s lab) to save Harry and stop Kraven. P.S. technically Eddie does exist, his name was in Peter’s Daily Bugle farewell card

I think Green Goblin might be teased at the end and saved for the third game but I think Kraven, Lizard, and Venom are definitely enough. Not to mention all the extra villains they’ll undoubtedly have for side quests like Wraith and Taskmaster. I wonder if Peter and Miles will have their own unique side quests that they can do independently or if there are some where you can do it as either one or even both. I agree with the sentiment that all this really needs to be is well Spider-Man 2 the sequel to the first game. In the immortal words of dril every generation deserves at least five movies named Spider-Man 2(yes I know this a game but I’m counting it).

5:15 The "shell" is probably just a suit transition animation. Folds over to change between suits. I imagine there will be separate costumes for normal spidey suits and black suits.

14:50 actually, one of the collectibles you get in the first game, is a letter from the daily bugle, I believe either thanking Peter for his time, or some birthday card or something like that, and the letter is signed by Eddie Brock, and a few others, so they did tease him in that game, which would be strange if they didn’t have him set up for this game

I think what's interesting about using the Symbiote in this story is that now we have Miles, we have an opportunity to explore what the symbiote & the way it makes Peter act does to his relationship with other heroes, especially one he's meant to be mentoring

I think they may be pulling a Mr Negative with Kraven here. Where Kraven is the main villain for the first half of the game but then it transitions into either Venom or possibly a goblin as the main final boss. Maybe even some type of venomized Harry? Either way I am excited for this game it looks sick

My thoughts exactly. Kraven will definitely play a major role but be won’t be the final boss. It’ll either be Venom or Green Goblin. I have my fingers crossed for the symbiote to attach itself to the Goblin and create some hybrid. That’s just wishful thinking though…but the Miles VA did say it was going to be “everywhere”.

they could make a system like web of shadows where you switch between normal spider-man and venom suit, and they could also have a systems where they have "venomized" versions of each suit

I would really like to see unique animations while web swinging and with basic combat attacks while wearing the black suit. I want to see a speed and strength increase, rather than just new tendril attacks. We see a few new animations so I’m hoping more become available as the suit consumes Peter/changes.

I am super stoked, for this game maybe we should get random encounters with villains that are unknown entity's. I hope peter parker has to deal with big threat's, and finds solutions to his problems maybe with brute force? Also let's hope, peter can fight his inner demons and get help from his closet allies. Miles definitely should have some original villains in this game, just like he has been getting in other books after bendis even now he has a good original villain when he got a electric sword.

I like to think that there'll be a segment of the game where Peter and Miles split up and don't see one another for a while, leading to Peter getting the black suit while in Queens while Miles is elsewhere for a decent, but small part of the game. At least long enough for the "Hey man, new threads?" to work

I think the symbiote looking thick when going over Peter's suit is the games way of showing that the symbiote doesn't prefer to make the suit quick but instead cover its host to prevent the host from getting hurt and then after fully covering the host, it then becomes smooth and takes the appearance that we see in the gameplay trailer

Kraven hunting Lizard while being pursued by Symbiote Spider-Man is literally the plot of the Spider-Man 3 tie in game. I just assumed you were reusing and refining that idea, similar to using Tombstone in your MCU College Trilogy being inspired by Spectacular.

I also want to trust insomniac with the black suit because … they basically did the same concept and did it well with Otto? Like his mind was being affected but that was after he was clearly beginning to do morally questionable things all from just his building hate of Norman. Also, most importantly the game actively shuts down his attempt to excuse his actions because of the neural interface so if they didn’t treat Peter and the symbiote the same way that would be disappointing to say the least.

It also seems like something happened to Connors that turned him back into the Lizard. Because i think there was a backpack that established that he had cured Connors. So maybe Kraven did something to Dr. Connors to turn him back into the Lizard. And thats why Pete is so angry

I mean technically Eddie brock was mentioned in the first game in one of the backpack items. The goodbye card Peter gets from the daily buegel Eddie signs the card saying it was fun working with him through the years So they could maybe do something with that and flashbacks

Who knows, Insomniac could pull a Miles Morales with Eddie where he's introduced as a new character in this game through MJ's job and the game could end with Eddie getting the symbiote setting up the sequel or the DLC or whatever

i want them to do something new with a symbiote. like maybe the reason the symbiote could make someone bad is their psyche. Like peter holding back a lot of negative thoughts and maybe the symbiote turned evil and made peter more bad because of the symbiote opening up those bottle of negative thoughts. I always think a symbiote is rather innocent that can change depending on whom uses the symbiote.
