When Tobey stopped Tom from killing Goblin, I was reminded of this quote: “Uncle Ben meant the world to us, but he wouldn’t want us living one second with revenge in our hearts. It’s like a poison, that can take you over. Turn you into something ugly.” -Aunt May, Spider-Man 3

The reason they took the mask off of the Goblin was presumably so we could get to see Willem Dafoe’s epic facial acting. Heck, that was one of his original complaints with the first movie, so I think it’s a good change.

The thing about Doctor Stange's final spell is that it's NOT a time-changing spell but a memory-wipe spell. The timeline never changed and everything in the MCU still happened, but now in the present anyone alive does not remember anything about Peter or any of the interactions with him. So you need to think about less as if the timeline changed to accomidate nobody ever meeting Peter, but that they were mindwiped to not remember him specifically, like a SUPER specific form of amnesia to everyone in the world. The movies and their event don't change, just everyone's memories from this movie forward. (Great video btw, I too absolutely loved this movie)

Im okay with Toms Peter not having an Uncle Ben death at the beginning to choose to become a hero. I mean think about it, this young kid that has idolized these superheroes for so long in this universe gets his own powers, of course hes gonna try to be like them. Thats what the first movie was about. Him basically trying to be Iron Man, a superhero he idolized and learning he should just be his own hero. Then in FFH he kinda realizes the weight of being a hero and doesn't want to do it anymore but in this movie he learns that he doesn't have a choice. He has great power and with that comes great responsibility. He can't have his fun Spider-Man stuff like before and have his Peter Parker stuff. When Spider-Man wins or saves the day, Peter Parker loses.

About the Aunt May and responsibility moment, when Peter says "I know" I think he's recollecting that Ben did teach him about responsibility but in the way which was said by Peter in Civil War. @@bud521 I’ve only cried at 2 movies in my life. The first was the final battle of endgame when Cap drags himself to his feet and stares down Thanos’s whole army accepting he’s about to be brutally killed but he’s gonna fight. The 2nd was me tearing up and a single tear rolling down my cheek when Andrew brought up how he lost himself after Gwen died. A perfect Segway between TASM2 and Venom would to make some excuse of there being 6 months or so between the symbiotes landing on Earth and the events of Venom. During that time, Andrew is struggling with Gwen’s death, still blaming and hating himself for it. He’s rude and dickish to people he isn’t extremely close with, not pessimistic but pragmatic to the point that he’s kinda cold, and not having a lot of connection to people is making him grow colder. The symbiote attaches to him and makes him outwardly express his anger more and more to the point of yelling at May and brutalizing criminals (not killing but beating them, breaking bones, etc). And the 3rd act is him coming to terms with the fact that he’s going down a dark path and making a switch, prying venom off of him. Venom then attaches to someone (not sure who) and begins using all of Andrew’s shortcomings as taunts to make him angry, but Andrew let’s go of that anger and wins. Essentially whereas Tobey was a good guy who was turned into a dick but knew he had to lose venom after he hurt MJ, have Andrew already be dick, but turn violent and aggressive only losing the symbiote after brutalizing an enemy and stopping himself just before striking the killing blow.

In Venom Let There Be Carnage in the post-credit scene Venom said to Eddie about how other symbiotes share knowledge across universes. No Way Home does not say Uncle Ben didn't exist. May says the Responsibility line and Peter says "Yeah I know" why would they purposefully put that in if Ben didn't exist. You could argue then why would they purposefully not have Tom say Ben's name out-loud well there is that theory floating around that Avi Arad is behind them not being allowed to have MCU Spider-Man refer to Ben, which seems to be backed up very well since in the first thing MCU Spider-Man was in where Marvel had complete control they found an excuse to namedrop Ben instead of the usual MCU Spider-Man tradition to not namedrop him, this to me is a pretty big indicator that there is some behind the scenes meddling that has it so Ben can't be referenced directly in the live action films, which is probably why they are making the Spider-Man freshman year series so they can finally establish Uncle Ben's impact on Peter, they'll probably even write in a reason as to why Ben's grave wasn't at the end of NWH, maybe he got burned instead of buried. In the scene where Tobey mentions Ben it does in no way say Tom didn't have an Uncle Ben, Tom looked so relieved when both Andrew and Tobey mentioned Ben. Also when Tobey mentions Ben he doesn't say "My Uncle Ben he was like a father to me" because he knows Tom already has one where as when Andrew talks about Gwen he has to explain who she was, he says "I lost Gwen, she was my MJ". Also when Andrew and Tobey so casually talk about Uncle Ben as if everyone present already knows who he is Tom doesn't ask who "this Uncle Ben" is because he already knows who he is. They clearly all assume they're pretty similar especially based on how they point out the things that make them different like how Tom is so surprised that Tobey and Andrew don't have the Avengers, and how Tom and Andrew are so surprised that Tobey shoots organic webbing. As I said before there is definitely some behind the scenes meddling making it so Ben can't be outright said by MCU characters in the live action films and there is no further proof of that than in the graveyard scene. A year ago it was rumored and has almost been confirmed that Avi Arad forced the team of FFH to remove Uncle Ben's grave from the Mysterio acid trip scene because he wanted to squeeze as much out of the money they spent on RDJ. This seems veeery similar to that just without the RDJ stuff, however it could also that the reason they didn't put Ben in there is because it would be an unearned emotional pay off since they haven't established him in the MCU yet, and maybe also because they don't want to take people's attention away from May's death. Freshman Year is definently Feige's way of backtracking and finally estaplishing Ben for this version.

Thank you for understanding this. And not only that, they have made subtle references to his existence in past films. Peter says in Homecoming to Ned “everything that’s being going on with her” when asked why he can’t tell Aunt May (probably not the exact quote but the spirit is there, clearly a reference to losing Uncle Ben to me), in Far From Home, Pete’s luggage says BFP on it standing for Benjamin Franklin Parker. So he clearly existed even before they were finally able to name drop him and the fact that so many people choose to ignore those details just so they can hate on MCU Spidey really ticks me off. >_> sorry I used this to vent, I just find so few people who actually know the correct information and you are a godsend. @@suicidalloafofbread2009 I doubt he was the one to do it as I think they said his involvement was scrapped after FFH which is why Tom actually feels like Spidey now. Peter doesn’t become Spider-Man without ben’s death, so I’m pretty sure Uncle Ben exists but just never said the line like how he never said it originally in the comics. Peter becomes Spider-Man out of guilt and a sense of responsibility. May with the quote just reminds him of that.

@@gleam6370 For me, it was 6.5/10, then a 7.5/10 once we reach the midpoint when Aunt May died, then the climax cranked it up to about a 9/10. Points detracted because of the inconsistent tone in the first act, the comedy being hit or miss, and some pretty stupid “Happy X May” stuff being played up in the first act. Additionally, Happy’s place just felt too clean for me for me to feel like Peter’s family was ‘On the run.’ Moreover, while I enjoyed the inclusion and use of Tobey and Andrew as much as the next guy, they didn’t really have a character arc. Sure, Andrew says that he got more violent, but we aren’t actually shown it, and it wasn’t exactly a true character arc. If you compare how Spider-Verse handled their 3 core Spider-People against how No Way Home used their three, it feels a little weaker because they had character arcs, and Tobey & Andrew didn’t. And lastly, while I feel Toms arc was *good,* it wasn’t as clear-cut as it could be. That being said, while it may not be the best Spider-Man media I’ve ever seen, it’s definitely one of the funnest because of the premise alone. I’ll probably rewatch this movie a lot, and after being disappointed by MCU Spider-Man for a while, it’s good to see about 95% of my issues being addressed. 🙂

I loved the MJ idea near the end. Imagine MJ is gone for MCU Spider-Man 4&5 and then the post credit of 5 or start of 6 Peter’s new friend (Harry maybe) says he set up a blind date for Peter. “She’s cool, just moved back to NYC, and she’s at the door.” Peter opens the door and Zendaya gets to say “face it Tiger, you just hit the jackpot”. That would be cool imo because I’d like to see Zendaya back as MJ but not for a few movies.

When I watched the movie I had the same thought that they just stabbed Tobey for no reason other than shock, but when I watched it the second time I thought about it and it makes perfect sense. As far as Goblin is concerned the fight isn’t over so when Spiderman is standing there with his back to him and his hands occupied it’s the perfect opportunity for him to eliminate an enemy and he knows about his spidery sense but knows that Spider-man would take the stab rather than let Tom kill him

Still angry that they never finished the 60's Spider-Man theme cover. The MCU version ends prematurely, it doesn't include the “To him, life is a great big bang-up Wherever there's a hang-up You'll find the Spider-man!” part, and that always annoyed me. Was expecting them to do it during NWH's final swing, but they didn't.

I was really hoping they're not going to rely too much on One More Day, but they did. But admittedly it does work with this movie. I'm just angry because Peter and MJ just got together the final ending of the last movie, only for it to be taken away. As well as Peter's friendship with Ned. But at the end of the day, sacrifices needed to be made. Also I personally still prefer the red and black suit compared to the red and blue one. I know it's iconic but the red and black gave me a lot of Amazing Fantasy vibes.

@@jayheadley8061 For me the comic it make reference more to one moment in time more tha one more day(Still not saying you are wrong) but I agree, like I prefer "secret identity" spider-man and we got that but with a sacrifice like you say, for me the big problem was in the movies before like in the other movies if MJ or Ned(Ned kinda was but it was more comedy) were more important to the plot it would have hurt more like example: in HC MJ dosen't appear much, in FFH she is with Peter but we really don't know much about her and No way home is the Ultimate sacrifice. And with the suit I was like you the red and black was more cool to me, but the last suit it grow to me the final scene like I don't know why?, maybe is the hype but I love blue🔵 and red🔴 again

I agree completely. The best performances of this movie were Willem and Andrew. Willem is perfect for the crazy, totally evil villain. That’s why so many see him as a perfect Joker actor if he was 30 years younger. Andrew is just a god-level actor in everything he does. His movies also got the core of Peter while making it modern and centering the movie on characters. While that made the story lack, the audience still had a huge connection to the character. The problems with Andrew’s movies were the villains and the number of unconnected storylines. None of the villains were extremely memorable, and their storylines didn’t connect at all. So while you were deeply invested in Peter, Gwen, May, etc. you never really got invested in the story.

What I would do is let Uncle Ben's death be the trigger for Peter to become Spider-Man, since his death was his fault because he used his powers irresponsibly. For 6 months he kept that promise to himself, but he suffered constantly because he had no support from anyone. It was the right thing to do, but it seemed more like a punishment. Then Tony Stark shows up. He shows him this amazing world full of possibilities, which make being Spider-Man a lot more "fun", so to speak. Unfortunately that intervention from the billionaire makes Peter slowly forget the philosophy his Uncle Ben taught him, as he prefers the superficial side of what it means to be a superhero, rather than the emotional aspect that makes him suffer every time he puts on the mask. That would justify his attitude focused on the superiority complex in Homecoming and the inferiority complex in Far from Home, neatly connecting to the second tragedy in Peter's life, the death of Aunt May. Thus No Way Home forces Parker to return to that philosophy, losing absolutely everyone close to him for neglecting it in the first place because of the Avengers' intervention in his life. It's a sort of extended origin that comfortably encapsulates what it's like to mature in the real world. A lesson can be forgotten because of the illusion of change.

My idea with Ben is based on Civil Wars talk, where Peter basically says that him choosing not to use his powers immediately led to something bad happening that he may have been able to stop if he took on that responsibility sooner, so like my idea for the Freshman Year show is Ben asks him to run to the store, Peter lies and says he can't because he's got homework when in reality he just wants to play with his powers and climb on walls and shit, Ben goes to the store, later while Peter is in his room he hears sirens go by, he goes to climb out the window but doesn't, he then later finds out that those sirens were because someone killed Ben. He isn't directly tied to the death and he isn't there to hold Ben and he didn't see the killer but as you would he naturally ties himself to death, what if he went to the store, what if he did climb out the window etc

I think Uncle Ben died and it was Tom's fault, but Ben died before he could say with great power there must also come great responsibility, meaning Peter would have to find it out on his own, like in the 60s comics. No other hero is in high school and going on school trips, or has a villain that could do anything similar to mysterio. Just because it’s not the classic Spider-Man archetype doesn’t mean it’s not a Spider-Man character. And maybe Pete starts getting resentful of Ben cuz the divorce might fall through and there’s a lotta tension from all parties. All while Peter is dealing with the spider bite and playing around with his new powers. The end of the series could be Bens death, I think it’s a cool new way to do it

1:11:10 This idea of responsibility was already introduced in Civil War. When Tony asked him why he'es doing what he's doing he says something along the lines of i have great power so i have the responsibility to use it for good. 1:04:46 I'm gonna be honest, I don't even care that they used the line from the comic, I'm just happy that they used it in a way that makes sense. In the original movie, when Ben says "with great power comes great responsibility," Tobey doesn't have any power that he knows of, and certainly not any great power. It makes sense when Aunt May says it here, it makes sense in the deleted TASM2 scene when Peter's Dad says it, and it makes sense why the TASM Ben never actually specified great power, but just the ability to do good. But Uncle Ben in that car just knows Peter's changing, not that he has any newfound power, and so saying "great power" just doesn't make sense there.

I always thought he was referring to Peter's intelligence there.

@@booshgaming5498 I mean, he never once referred to it in the conversation. If he was going to then he would've said "Peter, you're really intelligent. Intelligence gives you power, but you need to remember that with great power comes great responsibility." Even that is more organic than how he said it.

I think the idea you brought up with normal Osborn being the darker half cohld have been really interesting, maybe forcing Peter to acknowledge the darker side of Tony stark whom he idealised with normal being a dark reflection of that type of billionaire character which would also further his arc into being more of his own independent hero rather than being “Iron man junior”

About the whole great power thing. I still think it could work. When the other Spider-Men talked about how be told them the line, you could see something click on mcu peters face. You could play that as him finally seeing that they have all been through the same loss

48:30 talking about Venom and him getting transported into the MCU despite not knowing Peter is Spider-Man, I would say that in Let There Be Carnage, Venom does state that he can see through the multiverse and that the Venoms are connected through a hive mind meaning there is at least one Venom out there who bonded to Peter and knows that Peter is Spider-Man.

Okay thank you for that whole canon side-tangent. I really hate this expectation that things need to follow a strict strict timeline to be "good". Sometimes, artistic freedom is more important than consistency.

My theory on Venom is that: Venom mentioned in Venom 2(post credits)that he is infinite and there are a lot of venoms in different universes so maybe one venom saw tobey and he knows him from that.

in the lab scene, when tom and tobey looked at each other, i think there’s a connection there. i thought it was foreshadowing the tobey being uncle ben, but they didn’t even do anything with mcu uncle ben and i was kinda disappointed

My only complaint about this movie is that i wish Topher Grace come back as Venom, beacuse at least Venom being here in this movie would made more sense considering that Eddie in Spider-man 3 knows who Peter is.

Id like it if Tom Peter never knew Ben, and in the next films he finds out more about Ben. Then you get Peter seeing a video about Ben giving a speech and he says With great power also comes great responsibility. That be cool.

See I think in terms of Peter's continuity throughout the mcu, everything that happened did happen. However there's just no physical record or memory of Peter's involvement or of those moments at all. For example in the end of the film MJ still has the black Dalia necklace which suggests that Peter gave it to her and that those events of ffh still took place. However her recollection of obtaining the necklace itself is likely different or non existent. The ladder is especially plausible considering how much of our own lives we disregard and don't recall over time as well. In terms of what you guys mentioned I'm sure everyone remembers Spiderman and his place within the Avengers and those conflicts. Just not that it was Peter. Which is also supported by J. Jonah. Jamesons statement following the spell near the end of nwh. So for the show I'm guessing it'll be a representation of what would have actually happened leading up until civil war and in hindsight within universe; probably no one other than Peter recalls that.

(I don't remember if you guys mentioned this or not in the video, so, sorry if this is a pointless comment) They do allude to Uncle Ben's death in Civil War with the diet With Great Power line "When you have the powers that i do, and then the bad things happen, they happen because of you" opr whatever. So I don't know if they're gonna retcon that or not. Freshman Year is gonna be interesting for sure.

2:18:50 Regarding this, I don't think the spell erased anything from history, it just made people forget anything regarding Peter Parker. So everything that happened in the past movies still happened, but people only remember the Spider-Man half, not the Peter Parker half.

I'm pretty sure the spell just pulled people from the time that aligns with the present day MCU, which is why Tobey, Andrew, Lizard, and Sandman are all older, but Norman, Otto, and Electro died long before then so it pulls them from before their deaths
