Marvel's Spider-Man[a] is a 2018 action-adventure game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Based on the Marvel Comics superhero Spider-Man, it is inspired by the long-running comic book mythology and adaptations in other media. In the main storyline, the super-human crime lord Mr. Negative orchestrates a plot to seize control of New York City's criminal underworld. When Mr. Negative threatens to release a deadly virus, Spider-Man must confront him and protect the city while dealing with the personal problems of his civilian persona, Peter Parker.
Gameplay is presented from the third-person perspective with a primary focus on Spider-Man's traversal and combat abilities. Spider-Man can freely move around New York City, interacting with characters, undertaking missions, and unlocking new gadgets and suits by progressing through the main story or completing tasks. Outside the story, the player is able to complete side missions to unlock additional content and collectible items. Combat focuses on chaining attacks together, and using the environment and webs to incapacitate numerous foes while avoiding damage.
Development of Spider-Man, the first licensed game by Insomniac in its then-22 year history, began in 2014 and took approximately four years. Insomniac was given the choice of using any character from Marvel's catalogue to work on; Spider-Man was chosen both for his appeal to the employees and the similarities in traversal gameplay to their previous game Sunset Overdrive (2014). The game design took inspiration from the history of Spider-Man across all media but Marvel Comics and Insomniac wanted to tell an original story that was not linked to an existing property, creating a unique universe (known as Earth-1048) that has since appeared in novels, merchandise, and comics.
Spider-Man was released for the PlayStation 4 video game console on September 7, 2018. The game received praise for its narrative, characterization, combat, and web-swinging traversal mechanics, although some criticized its open-world design for lacking innovation. A number of reviewers called it one of the best superhero games ever made, some comparing it favorably to the Batman: Arkham series. Spider-Man became one of the fastest-selling games of the year, one of the bestselling PlayStation 4 games of all time, and the fastest-selling superhero game in the United States. Spider-Man was followed by a story-based, three-part downloadable content, Spider-Man: The City that Never Sleeps, which was released monthly from October to December 2018.

I would like the Amazing Spider-man 1 black suit (which was in the game for the first movie, it's similar to the raimi black suit, as it is the amazing spider-man suit dipped in black, with silver webs (the original amazing spider-man suit doesn't have silver webs like the original raimi suit) also it has the classic white eye style instead of orange-yellow eyes)

As much as I like this idea, im not too sure if it would work that way. Im no game dev, but when you start out something from the ground up like a second game, the engine and player models and animations will be a little different. BUT maybe it could work. And if it does, bravo to the devs.

Idk. I like the idea of having the suits unlocked, but I would definitely want the suit powers to be absent -- or at least have to be unlockable. Youd be way too overpowered at the beginning of the game if you just had every single suit with every single suit power already unlocked from the previous game.

Yeah, and TASM 2 reused that character model and others for alternate costumes. Activision clearly shafted that game to work on Destiny, you know, that idea that really didn't work out. I get Activision wanting to put a sizeable effort in their own IP, but spidey should've at least been their secondary priority. I guess in the end it was for the best, now spidey's in the hands of a studio that actually CARES.

@@darkhorsed I'm in minority, but I think the first TASM was a pretty solid (if flawed) game. It was when they were forced to push out the sequel with seemingly half the manpower and budget that they messed up. Seriously, f#%k Activision.

@@darkhorsed I think if there was one thing Insomniac could've brought over from the TASM games, it would be the real-time battle damage system. It was so cool that spidey's suit could get progressively more torn up the more damage you took. It was especially cool how the suits made of unstable molecules in the comics didn't wear out like the others (which I'm sure made a weekend of programming more bearable for some people). It was a really nifty system that also would've been cool to see in the Arkham games (seeing as how Batman's suit would get more damaged as the story progressed) and I REALLY do hope to see it again.

@@torak_34 it doesn't have to be CG lol, check out Miles' animated costume for example, that has a cel shading simulating a 2D animation, the same can be done for other animation costumes, and do. and insomaniac is not lazy

I actually wanted to hear the Captain America Civil War concept Spider-Man suit. It's so technological given it was developed by Tony Stark, while still acting as a love letter to Steve Ditko and John Romita's designs of the character back then. Overall it's a pretty fantastic suit.

The Rami Symbiote suit is definitely my favorite Symbiote suit, the webbing on the suit is absolutely an improvement and the similarities between the 2nd Rami suit and the Symbiote suit compliments the mirror effect between the two.

Good list. I would like the Classic Symbiote suit to be like the Vintage Comic Book suit. The Spectacular Spider-Man TV suit is the one that I most want, and I hope that its 3 Symbiote counterparts will be in the game. That suit starts from a Raimi design with a small spider and webbing, to a mutation of a slightly bigger spider and some lost webbing, to a classic Symbiote design with a huge spider and no webbing.

I think every suit should have it's symbiote suit. If you're in "Webbed suit" it becomes it's version of black costume, classic suit classic black suit. And that shouldn't really be a suit, more like different playstyle. Also if you're Black Spiderman for too long he'll start to kill.

However i feel if its added as a game mechanic the suit needs something to balance it out, maybe like have it continuously drain your health so you can't abuse it all the time?

That's a perfectly fine list. I only really use standard Spider-Man suits. I never even used the main PS4 suit, it's always Classic Suit (Damaged), Classic Suit (Repaired), Stark Suit, Iron Spider Suit, Vintage Suit, Into the Spider-Verse Suit and the Webbed Suit.

I just learned how to use power diving (L3) into swings for swinging higher up . And I thought I mastered the swinging already. So. If you are not able to swing to the top of the tallest buildings with ease, then you haven't mastered swinging yet. For the most part, I would always resort to wall sprinting in order to get to the top of the tallest buildings. Because I didn't know how to dive bomb into swings for swinging higher. Its a blast also! I actually swung to the top of the Empire State Building and web zipped to the top of the antenna! Without having to resort to wall sprinting, as fun as that is. Its just nice to be able to swing up to anywhere without having to climb. As an additional option.

I hope they do something like “make your own custom suit” thing where you can combine different aspects from all your favorite suit, like eye lances, spider-emblem on both front & back of the suit, webshooters etc., so that everyone can make their own Spider-Man. That’d be truly great

Id really like to see full on customization. textures, patterns, colors, spider symbols, eyes. They've done an excellent job with suits, I just think it'd be sweet to put our own spin on the suits. As far as I know no other spiderman game has done it.

You are right about the nostalgia thing. In all honesty i was so bummed out when i found out the sam raimi suit wasnt in there. I never had much time to finish the game and kinda gave up. Then they added the raimi suit... i made the time to finish the game lol i know that sounds stupid, but that suit is the best and those movies form good memories of my childhood

They should make the captain universe unlock when you 100% complete the game so that it wouldn't break the game and so that you could have even more fun after finishing the game

I would like the Classic Symbiote suit to be like the Vintage Comic Book suit. I would also love to see the Spectacular Spider-Man TV suit and its 3 Symbiote counterparts, because that suit starts from a Raimi design with a small spider and webbing, to a mutation of a slightly bigger spider and some lost webbing, to a classic Symbiote design with a huge spider and no webbing.

Some suits I would like (in no particular order) is •the clone Hunter suit •spiderman noir WITH the trench coat •the insomniac suit but with normal cloths on top of it (like a hat and un-zipped hoodie) •spiderman India •assassin spiderman

Sadly there is no info about the sequel but I don’t think they would include miles suits unless you can play as miles

About the todd McFarlane suit, when you said you don't know if they deviated from the body type but they did quite a bit with the spiderverse suit where his upper body is much bigger/wider and the cel shaded suit manga Spider-Man from the second dlc with it's big head and skinny body

I agree with most of this list, especially ones like the Raimi black suit and the original Ditko design. I'd personally love to see the very first (second technically, but semantics) comic suit come to life in a video game with today's graphics. Though the suit I most want to see is the Unlimited suit. That is quite possibly my favorite Spidey suit ever.

I agree that the original Ditko suit needs to get some more love. I really love the new Far From Home suit because of the red and black colors and the little web gliders. I really appreciate Insomniac for adding it to the game but I hope they add it in Spider-Man 2 with the web wings as an ability.

Did you guys know that into the spiderverse animated peter b parker 24 frames per second and miles 12 frames per second and by the end miles is animated 24 frames per second to show how miles becomes more experienced as spiderman and overall a better person 🤔

What I would love to see is for them to combine different suits into a category, so you have armored suits classic suits different symbiote style suits. Then any suit can cater to any player aswell as not having overwhelming amounts of suits on screen. Or itd be cool to just add all those suit styles like 1990's classic spiderman or ultimate comics and put them in a favorites category that you can access in gameplay, like skyrim. I also would personally like it if when you switched suits there was just a quick cut to black, then it cuts back to spidey pulling his mask over his face.
