Seriously, what's Marvel's beef with spider-man? They have been dragging him physically, emotionally, and intellectually for a minute now, and it's starting to be a bit much. Almost feels personal

i remember being in preschool with a spiderman pillow and watching the cartoon and peter's struggles were something relatable, even even now almost 23 especially with some fantastic runs. It seems that the idea went from aiming spider man at an audience of young men who like to see relatable struggles (with a side of spider powers lol) to "Spiderman has a wife... lets make him miserable by having Satan himself take it away." He's suffering for suffering's sake and not as a writing device to make him a relatable character, a hallmark of any generationally transcendent character. Those are when Spiderman is written right, even Superior Spider man had that element to it to a smaller degree, but people have other thoughts on that. Venom and Spiderman are probably my favorite marvel characters especially since Donny Cates' run so this hasn't been fun to watch.

This is the first time in a loooooong time that Marvel has successfully upgraded someone's look. Bens new design is fire. The last time someone's look got upgraded this well was when connor Sims became a herald of galactus.

@J Check nah. I loved the astral vibe and the rune but hated the rest, especially seeing as just before that he had the uru arm and beard. I've seen herald thor fan art that looks fucking immensely better than the offical stuff, but I always think he looks better with a beard and long sleeves.

But the stupid thing is Penguins death is FAKE and Failsafe is still out to kill Bruce, which is so dumb. Why didn’t he go investigate the death to see if it was legitimate and actually true before doing anything? Like the idea is cool af but the writing is terrible.

What struck me odd about Chasm's memory loss is two things, one the obvious. Ben's Warped Bully Maguire version of events of how he became Chasm, and two. If Ben truly lost his memories, he would not have said "I have all the power with none of the responsibility." If Uncle Ben's lesson to Peter was truly removed from his memory he would not have said that during this fight. I propose this theory, maybe what ever Ben fell in despite gave his powers a interesting boost of his spider sense actually fight against those that attack Ben but perhaps he's now temporarily or permanently Marvel's interpretation of The Joker? Like Joker, Ben has instantly shown as Chasm to be an unreliable narrator

I'm just waiting for the Venom symbiote to interact with Chasm resulting in chasm becoming a new symbiote. Also due to the symbiotes genetic memory it could potentially restore Ben's memory

I like this story, but dislike Ben as the villain. I grew up reading the original clone saga, and Ben taking over as Spider-Man for a while. It's always Ben who gets the shaft, dies, or gets manipulated. Sure sometimes he just fucks up, but the main weakness of every character is their writer. So in my eyes, every Spider-Man writer ultimately hates Ben lol. Let Kane be a villain for a while, sheesh. Wait is Kain even alive anymore?

I'm glad someone else is noticing that Spider-Man is getting worked over like a NYC pothole. I get it helps for character development but at this point Peter has as much character as 3 Novels, 5 short stories, and 2 Bible Chapters.

This new villain could be a good villain in the future as long it is not related ro ben because to me the idea of ben is to stupid, all of this chapter feeled so uninteresting to me, of course is for childs but i had seen other spiderman comics that are good, so, why this idea of ben, this lady, ben being a psycho? Wich by the way, he is peter parker.. so, why ruining a character like that? Ben should be a hero that sacrifices himself on the name of justice.

Agreed. I wanted Ben to get some attention again but not like this. Why did they decide to make him a villain? He was always so inherently good. They brought him back as a villain, then made him an anti-hero, then a hero and now a villain again. I feel like they just wanted an evil Spider-Man to fill the Venom void and decided to just screw with Ben again thinking nobody would care.

@@aryudsoh well said! In the 90's (before Ben took the mantel of Spider-Man), he knew he wasn't Peter Parker, made peace with himself and was out to make his own identity. Not only by being The Scarlet Spider, with inventing his own gadgets (upgrade from Spider-Man), had a job, and finding his place in the New York again...Why can't Marvel just simply let him resume as the Scarlet Spider and be Ben Reilly? Chasm has been SUCH a DISAPPOINTMENT! SHAME ON MARVEL
