It reminds me of that joke: An engineer, a physicist, and a mathematician are asked to build a fence to contain a herd of sheep, using as little fencing as possible. The engineer just builds a circular fence around the sheep. The physicist constructs a circular fence of infinite radius and contracts it until it is the minimal size to contain all the sheep. The mathematician builds a fence around themself and says "I define myself to be on the outside of this fence."

Aussie here, the funnel web is one of the deadliest spiders in the world and likes to make it's home in people's shoes. The redback is a relative of the black widow and likes to make it's home under toilet seats. Other than those two, the rest of the spiders here are relatively harmless and some are delightfully cute such as the dancing peacock spiders. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rr95iKl2tsvMY5s.html

Stick your fingers in THAT, kapoophead) -- all of which are FORBIDDEN from Anish Kapoor -- Semple made the glowiest glow pigment, which is ESPECIALLY available for Kapoor, because "we want you to know how lovely it feels to #sharethelight." Pettiness goals. But also 110% deserved.

@LimeyLassen
@LimeyLassen 6 жыл бұрын
Then how'd they get in the house to begin with?
@LordBhorak
@LordBhorak 6 жыл бұрын
They live in storage rooms, garages etc. Many of the in-door spiders have adapted to live... in-doors. They were born inside and they live inside. It's not like spiders wander around the globe and suddenly just stumble upon someones residence and enter via window and start doing their thing. They've kinda always been there, but usually not within the areas where humans live. It's basically how if you'd take a city dwelling pigeon and put it into the wilderness, it would probably die (unless it flies to the urban areas again), because it has adapted to humans and urban areas. So in short: Spiders don't enter your house and build webs. They have always been there... watching... waiting...

One time my sister and I were walking down one of the paths at the Hay River falls at dusk, and a gust a wind was carrying hundreds or thousands of little spiderlings from the tall grass and trees past our path into the canyon. Which meant that we were being caressed by dozens of little parachuting spiderlings. When I bent down to look at the webs they were all funnel webs. And I guess that they all had babies at the same time and decided to release them that night.

A web like that can be built by a spider in one night. I think that most of the people here don't clean under their couch pillows every day... let alone go around their houses during the night, checking if spiders are building webs underneath their couch pillows.

What LordBhorak said. I found one of those in my window once, but didn't find the spider, so I just removed the web. The web was back in full force the very next morning. This time when I cleaned it up, I successfully found the spider. But yeah, that web can be built in just a few hours by an industrious spider while you're busy sleeping.

I watched one of my roommate spiders* (another non-Australian funnel-web) expanding its web the other night. I feel like its path encodes great secrets about the universe. *Yes, I have roommate spiders. The most prominent are two funnel-web spiders living against my window. They pay rent in services, which also incidentally feed them. Really it's a great deal for all involved. Also, it's fun to watch them chase down and tackle the flies I toss in. I think I might need to invite some more orb-weavers to eat mosquitos, though.
