Thankyou, that's very nice of you. This was some years ago now, (I'm currently working on a friends Virago Bobber if you want to check those videos out), I'm sure that I could make it a bit more polished and smooth nowadays though still not on a 'professional' level, the only thing is I lack bikes to review, LOL

It was 920 cc, not 900cc. No worries. I had a 920 and a 535 virago. Both were great bike. 82 920 then later 95 535.
Just bought a '97 xv535 and am picking it up tomorrow morning. I had no idea of its historical importance, i just saw a little cruiser that needed a new home and immediately fell in love with it. Very strange, as I've only ridden sports bikes! Can't wait to get on, ride her home and learn more. Thanks for the tip about the exhaust, I'll be riding with my jeans on!

You know, this is the best review on any bike that I have EVER seen! So good that I got me a Virago 535 about 4-5 years ago and am decided on upgrading to a H-D 883Iron! Cheers!

Jumping on an old video to say, buy one. I just got my "first big bike" and love cruisers, so of course it was this bad boy. Such a fun and comfortable bike. With enough power to keep you happy without the weight to make you unhappy

I have thought about buying a 535 for a long time. This review was very helpful and very well done. Easy to see a lot of time was spent putting this together. Thank you for your efforts and compliments on a job well done.

Speaking as an ex test/development rider, your reviews are by far the most honest and informative on you tube and in many a magazine. Far, far better info and honesty than a certain weekly bog roll that comes out of Peterborough. Keep up the good words. Nice to see a warts n all review of a bike without it being sponsored by company xyz. I currently ride a customised Vmax 1200 purely because one of my early bikes was an XV535. I can't stress how much that great little machine did for my life.

That's very kind, thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it and I'd love to do lots of bike reviews. I need s list of people who have a variety for me to review though, if only I could work through even a selection of the most popular models of each year from the 80's onward.

This bike takes me back to the summer of 1993 when I passed my test. I used to dream of owning one of these beasts. Sadly the dream wasn't realised at the time. Fast forward 25 years and I'm looking at getting back onto two wheels again. I can't wait!

Great review of the XV535. I have had my 1987 model for 28 years now and would never think of ever selling it. Although it is a bit light for the highways with heavy traffic ( especially around trucks ) it has plenty of power and has been very dependable. Great bike !

I've got one some twenty years now, and I just love it. About the sound: you could edit the audio on an editor and copy the live channel onto the dead one and then re-upload the final video. Either way, this is a very fine review video you've got here. Thank you for this. Greetings from Portugal!

Great Video! Just bought a 535 ...pick it up in about 3 weeks ! Looking forward to going back to biking after a break of over 30 years!!! I think this little bike will do me well...not too scary, but still fun to ride! Thanks again for your vid.

Love this review and I agree with it. I have one Yamaha Virago 535 and adore it. Plus, it weights dry 187 kg (more or less) and to me is perfect because I can't manage too heavy motorbikes. The tank is little as you said, but this lady can easily be forgiven...she's comfortable and smooth and wild when it is needed.

Well, I've finally got one for myself! A nice dark blue, second hand Virago 535 (with an extra wide steering wheel). All that's left is just the paperwork for insurance and whatnot. But other than that, I'm ready to go! Winter's coming though, so I'm going to try and ride it before the snow arrives. A few months waiting, but at first sunshine, I'll be riding with my Virago glimmering in the sun. Thanks again for the review, and drive safe!

Good video style. Good straightforward information without any boneheaded posturing that so many videos have trying to toughen up the bike image (example, excessively revving the engine for no reason etc.). Great video.

Great review! I used to have a 1987 Yamaha Virago 535 and I kind of miss it after watching your review. I kept it for 16 years before I sold it (still in mint condition) and I bought a Harley XL1200 Custom Sportster instead. The funny thing is, the Virago looks so much like the Sportster that some people that know me and who are not really into motorcycling does not realize that I'm riding a different bike. They just think I changed the pipes to make it sound different.

Me and my father went out for a test drive and even though my bike is 25kw its amazingly strong, accelerates with 2 fullgrown men on 5th gear upphill on the freeway. It´s a perfect bike when you have my lenght´(1.67cm) and i think i´m going to enyoy this for many years to come, Now my prioroty is to get my license for MC :). @Emanuele Santoro This was filmed a good while ago on a Mini DV camcorder usign a wired mic, hence the single channel sound which believe me is far better than the onboard would have been given the placement of the camera. The quality is as good as it got through the Digital capture software so I can't do anything about that and the bike is long ago sold on so re-doing it isn't an option. Thanks for enjoying the video however

Very Good review. I had a 535 up to 2014 when I moved and sold it. I imported it from the UK and it's origin was USA having the pilot light mounted on the front mud guard. I had a box mounted the carrier and used to carry a gallon can of petrol as the range was small. As I used to drive in the mountains it was essential. Not sure if I ever got 60 mpg. My gripe was removing the battery in winter and then trying to refit at Easter for the summer season. The compartment is so tight for this service. Discovered by accident that I could change gear without the clutch depending on revs I fitted a harley type windscreen and it was great as one time a stone thrown up hit the screen instead of me at 60 mph. Would recoment one for all bikes. Thanks again for the memory..
@spidiq86 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it, your MPG may differ a little because a US Gallon is different to a UK gallon, 4.54 litre vs 3.78 litre. You're right about the battery compartment and the tank range but they are a nice easy to ride and enjoyable bike.
@LONGHALL276 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your quick reply. N Had already noted the US gallon v Imperial. I just loved your lovely version. Pity I'm 74 as I would love to ride a Virago again. Thanks

Top speed on mine was around 80 when I bought it but it had some home made restrictive baffles in the silencers, once these were removed, it sounded far nicer and would reach about 95, (on a closed circuit under test conditions), :) It was a struggle and a fight to keep it there but it would.

I have on myself having brought it in from New Zealand where I lived. With 60000 km on the clock, it is still going strong. It is not really suited for sustained speeds of 90km/h or more as it becomes very uncomfortable. As a commuter to work, short distances or in heavy traffic, it is highly versatile. Living in Switzerland makes the bikes very useful indeed on the overcrowded Autobahn in the day.

Thanks for reviewing this bike...I bought mine in 1995 at 5 years old, the 90 bikes had the twin tanks. I could make around 150 on a tank. I sold it 5 years later and it had lost a mere 1k in depreciation. Had I have hung on it would still be worth a grand. The minus bits... The seat really gets to you after 80 or so miles. rapid onset of numb bum! The reserve fuel switch is electronic the cock itself will fail every 3 years or so at £100. Needs the carb heater mods in UK to avoid icing.

Have my '93 XV535 since last spring. I was looking for a bike to re-enter the biking world (after a few decades of absence), and it is hands-down the best bike for that purpose! I don't think I will "upgrade" any time soon, as I really love everything about it...
@spidiq810 жыл бұрын
Thanks, glad you liked the review and tank aside, theres nothing to dislike about the 535. The weight is all low down too which aids the handling and for all the mickey taking about cruisers not handling bends, clearly these people have never ridden one. Keep enjoying yours, :)

Great video! I'd add 2 things -the reserve tank switch is prone to sticking if you don't clean it well and the passenger seat is like a slab of cake! Other than that this is a class contender as a cruiser, it's fun to ride and has more bollocks than your average Harley.

Cheers Spidiq8.

Love the styling, thin, low, uncomplicated. I'll probably go for a trail bike, a second hand one like the KLE500, or BMW 650GS, but if i suddenly changed my mind and went for a custom, this would definetely be my first choice, cant beat the price and quality. Plus, if you have some basic tools, you probably can dissasemble it completely without problems hehe.

You should come and visit us in SA. Do you perhaps know where we can get spare parts from for 1100 virago an Tenere.kan 600 (both yamaha)
@spidiq89 жыл бұрын
Is that South Australia Or South Africa Sharon? Either way I'd love to see both and i'm sure i'd enjoy riding some sunny roads. Depending on the parts you'd be wanting, the best thing would be to look for forums specific to your bike in your area, they're a great source of info for spares and service items, obviously a Yamaha dealer should be able to get parts in stock for you but can be expensive. There are a few independent spares and accessory suppliers in the UK like M&P and Busters but I doubt these would help you greatly as the shipping costs would be horrendous if they do ship abroad. Hopefully that helps a bit.

The 535 and 750 are slightly different in shape, there are a few external trim differences, the dummy air cleaners for example and the 750 was supplied standard with alloy wheels rather than spoked, best thing is to google image search both models and you'll be able to see the differences easier, also, ask your neighbour the engine size if he hasn't specified, glad you enjoyed the review
