keep the plumbers tape on the reel. hold the part in your left hand with the thread end to your right hand. hold the end of the tape with your left thumb or finger, off the thread. Begin wrapping the plumbers tape over the threades by rotating the reel around the threads by going over the top away from you, under the bottom back toward you (clockwise). Two to three wraps of the engaged threads is all you need. snap tape when wraps completed.

Great idea! Ditch the plumbers tape and grab a marine grade sealant for the bulkhead and the spigot

Thank you. I drive truck so I’m gone 2 weeks at a time and need to water trees. I turn my water off before I leave because I’m not comfortable leaving it on as a neighbor drives and his faucet blew off and ruined his kitchen. I was at Lowe’s looking at ridiculously priced fittings and decided to see some more ideas. I have a water timer I’m going to put on it.

Excellent video, thanks! I was looking for a way to add a drain plug to the 15-gallon galvanized tubs we use for drinks whenever we host summer parties: when the ice melts it becomes a hassle to tilt the tubs to get the water out. Now I can just turn the spigot and the water's out, or I can run a hose to my garden bed and feed my plants while my guests enjoy their drinks. :) The parts were at Lowe's under the part numbers you mentioned-- that made it very easy to get the project done.

Thank you for sharing it takes a person with an Imagination and knowledge of how to do... The plumber at home depot absolutely could not help me... It needs to go down to a 3/8 line.... Hopefully there is a cap I can screw a fitting in with a 3/8 line hook up.... My incubator Is in the back of the property and I cannot keep an eye on the humidifier level.... God-bless you for sharing just having the correct words can be a big part of the battle won.

How much was it to make this when you made it back in the day? Its 2023, and the combined parts came to be about 30 bucks (12 and change for the faucet head, 17 for the plug) before tax over where I am. :-P

Thank you for your video. You helped me in figuring this one. I added a 1/2 PVC pipe to my 5 gallons water bucket, installed nipples, and served fresh water to my chickens. With hot weather in summer, this allows me to dump ice into the bucket and keep water cold for my babies.

I loved your installation video for the spigot on the 5 gallon bucket. I didn't know until the end that it was for your compost tea. This is the same thing I wanted to do but on a larger scale, say a rain barrel or 55 gallon plastic drum to water my whole garden with one big mix of compost or worm casting tea. I am just finding it extremely hard to find a large plastic barrel! But thanks so much for the step by step spigot video, it was great.

You can also use large totes that you can get at Lowes or Home Depot etc. Removable cover makes installing the spigot easier.

Plumbers tape is easier to use if you keep it on the roll and turn the piece of plumbing that you are applying the tape to instead of trying to move the tape itself..if that makes any sense. Thanks so much for this video. I need to install a spigot on a bucket so I can master batch my soap making oils, keep the bucket heated with a waterbed heater and then draw the melted oils out of the spigot.

I know this video was posted years ago but this was really useful and I had a question. I've got tons of grass that I have been using to make compost teas but here in Hawaii it can get foul smelling within 2 days. I've got chronic injuries that some times flare up so bad I can't deal with the buckets right away so they get rank and when I do get to them, I clear the grass and weeds from the water, then I hit it with 1 gram of pool shock/ gallon of water. Do you know what type of plastic that bulkhead is so I can run a check to make sure it won't get damaged by the pool shock? I think it should be safe but I don't want to waste time or money and I want to do this right to save time money and make life easy when I hurt.

Thanks so much Sherry! I looked on youtube and the general internet and couldn't find a video or description on how to do this with photos. So that was the motivation...lol I'm so glad that you are going to try this and can't wait to hear how it goes, please do let me know and send me a message if you have any questions. Good luck! and yes...Girl Power! take care...

Why not use just the spigot and two rubber washers and a bolt with a metal washer? Drill smaller hole and Use the spigot as the bulkhead? That is how i did my rain barrel. cheaper?

If you have a home made wine shop near you you can get a small plastic spigot and mount for very little. Mine cost me CAD$7 odd.

That bucket has curved surface, spigot puts a stress on it, with time bucket will crack, I think. You better off with a square shaped bucket, flat surface.

BoY860 lol yea it's a bit inside out :) and a make sure to put the tape on in the direction of the turn :)
@ManifoldSky
@ManifoldSky 7 жыл бұрын
Um, no it's not, as even a moment's thought would have told you. If the gasket is on the inside, the plastic nut will not be able to pull the outer side of the bulkhead against the plastic sidewall, and there will be NO seal.
@forestashley2822
@forestashley2822 5 жыл бұрын
@@ManifoldSky umm yeah you should keep the gasket on the inside because the pressure of the water along with the power of the nut pulling will make a waterproof seal. Better on the inside than the outside.
@ManifoldSky
@ManifoldSky 5 жыл бұрын
Forest Ashley no. First, water pressure does not create a seal. If it did, there would be no leaks to begin with. Water pressure is what constitutes the force that pushes water out of the hole. In addition, washers belong against the non-turning side of the connection. Putting a washer against the nut can lead to bunching and leaks. Ideally, one would use two gaskets, one on either side.
@ManifoldSky
@ManifoldSky 5 жыл бұрын
@@forestashley2822 Excuse me? Leaving alone the fact that you're so infantile and insecure that you have to resort to insults to try to make yourself feel better about your idiotic argument, and the fact that you're now moving the goal posts, or the fact that one can just as easily do the same procedure on the outside of the bucket, OR the fact that the straight edges of the nut increase the chance of snagging the gasket no matter which side you tighten from, OR the fact that in many similar applications the corrosive properties of the fluid may make minimizing exposure to the inner container suboptimal, the fact remains that your claims in your previous post are wrong. Also, go ⨍µ¢k yourself, you useless, leaking colostomy bag,
