It's not just about sexiness, though I agree one hundred percent. My issue is that Spike loved her the way we all dream of being loved. I mean, the look on his face in that moment when she first mounts him in the collapsing building says it all: look at him, his eyes aren't smoldering with lust, they're starry with wonder. He adores her, worships her, she's the center of his whole world and he could never want or need anyone or anything else. How anyone could find themselves loved like that and just throw it away, treat the person who loves them so purely like garbage or a sex toy if they're feeling generous…I can only shake my head. Something was seriously wrong with that girl. Of course, Spike's raw sexiness is absolute and undeniable, too. XD

Sure, she got sent back to earth after being in heaven, but the one good thing about living in this world was being loved the way Spike loved her, and she turned that into a source of nothing but even more pain, for both herself AND him. "Messed up" doesn't begin to cover it. It didn't have to be QUITE so hellish being here, if she'd just given him maybe an ounce of credit instead of constantly spitting on him and hating him. SIGH…I know we'll never really understand what was going on in her head, it's not something us normal humans can experience…but still, things didn't have to be as awful as they were, she MADE things worse.

YES! Omg I've talked about this subject so much and for so long. How there was a huge double standard between Angel and Spike, and even though I loved Bangel for what it was, and it broke my heart, in all reality, it was always Spike she needed to be with. At first, maybe it wasn't the healthiest love because both of them had been through so much, they were both broken people that sought solace in one another. Eventually though it turned to more than that, and I think Buffy lied to herself for so long because she was in love with him and if you notice that time that she broke up with him she didn't say I don't love you, she said I can't love you. Those are two very different things. Buffy always felt guilty about it because she was a Slayer and he had done terrible things, but no one also stops to point out how many terrible Things Angel did. I'm not saying one of them is better than the other but they are both two sides of the same coin. Actually, Spike was able to maintain his Humanity, his love, and his passions even when he was a vampire without a soul, that was something that Angel was never able to do when he did not have a soul. Spike, or William as his real name, he was poet when he was a human and he loved and he was passionate and yes maybe a little geeky and wasn't the best with women but he had the best of intentions as a human, while Angel or Liam as his real name is, was not a good person as a human. He was an alcoholic and he treated women like pieces of trash. The Narrative of a story is always going to be chosen by the narrator. If you look at facts though, Angel and Spike were equal in many ways, but in many ways Spike was actually better, better as a human, better as a vampire, and better for Buffy in the end because he was actually a mature relationship. Angel was first love and all those sweet and sentimental usually first loves are not our last loves because we need to grow and change, and that's exactly what they did in the series. They showed these group of people with these problems, these monsters and all of this stuff happening to them and around them, and they showed them grow and change whether it was bad or good, but that's how life is. I loved Bangel, but I am a Spuffy girl through and through.

Kit Cat @ The year is 2028 and i'm still watching, I made a vow totally unrelated to this show or your comment, I'll come back and re-comment then.... oh they re-make this show in 2026 but it's not called buffy, but its exactly the same story, the new slayer's now forms a bad ass bitch group (It's a total feminist wet dream), then main slayer gets turned, but still takes out every bad guy cliché's oh she's a lesbian too her love is forbidden with the 2nd in charge character, they bring back most of the cast from Buffy and Angel, it's a continuation it gets 1 session their was no real plan with the show, they really should of just got the old crew made it 18+ some how brought back spike and made it a dystopian future but nope

There are three main reasons why Spike was The one for Buffy, her True love : 3) He was the only vampire with no soul that she ended up trusting because he gave her reasons to. Even if he was souless, Spike had some level of conscience. 2) She trusted him with her family. She asked Spike to protect his family when there was Gloria, espacially Dawn. That prove how much she counted on him, she put the protection of his sister in his hands. 1) Spike is the only men she's been with who became a better man because of her. With Angel, it ended in drama, same with Riley. But with Spike, it was different, she inspired him so much to he wanted to be worthy of her. He went in dark places just to have his soul ONLY FOR HER; that's just powerful. And also, Spike never abandoned her. He was by her side all the times. He loved her inconditionnally.

Do you guys realize that a soulless monster fell in love with basically a pure soul? How can someone without a soul fall in love with something so good and pure? Angel fell in love with Buffy when he had his soul. But he never continued loving her without it. I’m 100% sure that Spike’s love for her was real and for him it was true love. At the end of the series maybe Buffy’s feelings weren’t as strong as his, but I think it could have been if the show continued. After all this monster got it’s soul back just to make her happy and be worthy of her....that’s a freaking huge meaningful sacrifice!

when I rewatched the series recently, in the last season Buffy really stands behind Spike a lot more than I remembered. They support each other. He's the only one who never doubts her and never questions her, and she constantly defends him despite the fact he's out of his mind for most of the season. She doesn't love him the way she loved Angel, but she believes in him, and in the context of what's going on that's a lot more powerful than the Angel romance.

Buffy's two loves are different types, they represent the different stages of life ... the one with Angel is the classic teenage love when you live more of emotions and when it ends you think the world is over ... with Spike it is a more adult, more conscious love, when you show the good and the bad about yourself because you are not judged but loved for who you are, it is the kind of love that can only grow over time and lasts for life

@@paolaserata8310 Yea I agree 💯, it’s the Love’s Three Theory. Angel was the first love, I guess Riley is the intense love, and of course with no explanation needed.. Spike is the 3rd love- the unconditional love. It was pretty interesting when I read on it. Thought yup that describes them. I think both of their loves were very pivotal for Buffy’s growth. First Love is always more innocent but innocent doesn’t mean end game. Spike and Buffy were more equals, they challenged each other both got through the best and ugliest forms of themselves and they were present for all of it. To me it goes deeper with Spike and Buffy cause their relationship went through an evolution. Enemies to lovers to whatever beautiful but sad connection they shared in S7. Tbh I’ll take either one of ‘em lol no complaints they both loved her but Spike’s love just hits differently❤

I hate that I saw an interview with James Marsters once where he said he doesn’t get why people love spike. Bc he doesn’t get the bad boy appeal. I don’t get the bad boy appeal either. Spike wasn’t a bad boy. He was one of the purest souls ever to exist in fictional universe. Alive, undead, soulless, and with a soul. The one theme that has always held strong throughout Spike’s character is his ability and capacity to love. To love another person with everything he is. To see them. Truly see and accept everything about them. Not seek to change them. But accept everything about them and learn to love it. Cecile (Halfrek), Drucila, then Buffy. Spike is a lover. Everything he is he devotes to the people he cares about most. Spike is a hufflepuff and I dare anyone to change my mind.

Spike was my one of my top favorite characters on the show. I like and agree with all you have to say about him. I think Buffy is a Gryffindor because she faced all her enemies as a slayer with bravery.

The supernatural characters in Buffy only make sense in that universe. People (including Marsters in this occasion) sometimes make the mistake of trying to interpret these characters as if they were in the real world and say things like "ew a 240-year old man cannot be in love with a teenager gross!" or "how can Buffy ever fall in love with a serial killer". Obviously it doesn't make any sense when you see it like that, but it makes every sense in a fantasy world that uses folklore archetypes as old as human civilization itself. In the fantasy world, Spike is a wonderful character: he is the only vampire whose human personality, his loyalty, idealism, and ability to love unconditionally, survived the loss of his soul and the takeover of his body by a demon. William's essence was so strong, that it persevered and came through even when his humanity was taken away. And in the name of love, he suffered all of the mythical trials that romantic heroes get to suffer. And then he sacrificed himself to save the world. Of course he deserves to get the girl and that's what the fans see and get behind. In the real world, would Spike be the best potential partner for Buffy? Maybe not - probably not - even ensouled Spike wouldn't be an ideal partner. But in the fantasy world, Buffy and Spike's romance is epic and it makes you wish for a happy end.

Don't forget, before all of those women, Spike was a loving and devoted son. He cared for his mother when she was sick and loved her so much he turned her into a vampire so they could be together for eternity. Of course, losing her soul made her disgustingly creepy and she had to die, but his heart was full of love all his life.

I will never ship a couple as hard as I did Spuffy. I remember my 16 year old self sobbing for two hours straight after the finale aired. She finally told Spike she loved him, and he died. I’m still not over it. 😭 He’s my favorite fictional character of all time

Spike fought for his soul to be with Buffy. Angel had his as a punishment. The final scene between them in season 7 was heart wrenching!!! He truly deserved her

She didn't deserved him.. He truly loved her. He loved her more than Angel ever did or could. She couldn't love him cause she was afraid of it. Afraid to fall into darkness. She said in the end that she loves him cause he sacrificed himself for everyone especially for her and then she realized how great he is but that isn't the saddest part.. Saddest part of all he never really had her.

I always felt that Angel was wrong for her. I mean he fell for a 16 year old....regardless that things were a bit different for couples when he was alive over 200 years at that point. People expect this..child to put up with all his emotional baggage of the suffering he caused in his human life and soulless life for true love?? Unlike Angel, Spike never allowed her to try to “save him”, he tried to either keep hiding while he suffered the “burning” his newly returned soul caused or tried to show a strong front each time he comes back to her afterwards. That’s not her job. You can have support but you also have to have that strength in you to grow passed things. Angel could only brood and because of their history, she was automatically put into nurse mode. Cordelia is good for Angel because she’s not the type to allow someone to make her a nurse. You either shape up or ship out with her. Spike was more emotionally mature and could see that Buffy needed space to work through her resentment of losing the chance of a regular life, the burden of being the Slayer and her own self hatred for feeling that way even more when her friends resurrect her, as if she was “ungrateful” but she was finally “finished”. Finally done with it all. Spike doesn’t let her suffer alone and he also reminds her of her strength, worthiness and supports her while she can’t see it still. Literally that’s all he does besides hook up with her in Season 6. He’s supportive but it’s falling on deaf ears with Buffy because she can’t come to terms with her feelings for him, her guilt and resentment towards herself, the Scoobies, her life in general etc. He’s so aware of her and her feelings, with him it’s 50/50 when it comes to caring for each other. Not “come cuddle and make me feel better about myself” like with Angel. Ugh I love them together haha.

He was there for her when nobody else was.he went throught great lenghts just to get his soul back because he knew that this was the only way to win buffy's heart by trying to become a better man for her

Sarah Mitchell Gellar once said in an interview that she Thinks Buffy should end up with Angel. and all i have to say is, how could she play the character for as long as she did and not even fathom the depth the relationship buffy had with spike. it was new, it was different, it was gruesome, it was pain, it was dark, but it was also empathy, a bonding of souls, it was the Ultimate Love, because when they fought it was war but when they remorse and showed affection for one another it was heaven on earth.

I think she is going off of her personal attraction to David lol I believe I saw an interview with James on how Sarah had told him when they met that she would be cool with him but he wasn’t her crowd lol yeah I don’t care what the actress wants.. the story line itself works better for Spuffy as end game not Bangel.. like that’s all living in the past. Done over with lol also this is just a personal perception but since this show was on over 20 yrs ago… relationships were still pushed to show more traditionalized relationships. Buffy and Spike’s relationship started out toxic but to me that’s more new age and they weren’t ready for that kind of relationship 20 yrs ago. Their love story is more close to reality then some Romeo Juliet nonsense. They perceived their kinky sex as to be something dark and clearly that is not true but again this was a show on tv 20+ yrs ago. Watching them now I roll my eyes when Buffy tries to pull a why do I let Spike do those things to me? Like girl not all sex is missionary lol and she initiated the type of sex they would have in their relationship. There is no way if Buffy wanted gentle, Spike would object. He worshiped her. You can tell that was late 90s early 00s…yeah so Buffy just fuckin was bad and she was dark and evil cause she was having kinky sex. Honestly it is very important to know your partner sexually.. and yeah Spike knew Buffy in so many ways Angel couldn’t touch. Spike knew she was a freak but didn’t care he allowed her to have that freedom and would even praise her..but 90s show girls can only have missionary or they aren’t pure lol sorry got way off topic but I hate when I see those parts of the show lol

I like Spike much more than Angel. I don't know is it due to writing or to acting, but I can feel the love from Spike much better. It seems to me that Angel has attraction to Buffy and perceives her as salvation or redemption for his soul, whereas Spike truly loves her for who she is. Though I must admit that I liked Spike more than Angel from the start. In season 2 he genuinely cared for Dru, while for Angel she was an amusing toy. I feel like Spike has more depth than Angel

I think it's nearly impossible to capture Spuffy's story and all their complexities and years of development in one video, but whoa honestly this comes pretty damn close!!! This vid gave me chills, and because of Sense8 I have a strong emotional attachment with this song and now with Spuffy too😭😭❤❤ Thank you, this is a masterpiece!! Never stop vidding them

And that’s why I’m forever Spuffy… if you just sit back and think about Spike’s evolution and how an unrequited love hits harder than some Romeo and Juliet crap…I feel it’s easier to love someone when it’s reciprocated but Spike loved her as best as a soulless demon could and then fought for his soul… to then truly love a woman who he really believed could never love him back…that’s powerful… and if the Spike haters looked at his whole story… from his human life up until his death… the man just wanted to be loved that’s FREAKIN it! Spike was the under dog of the story and those are the ones who deserve the world in the end.

The first time I watched Buffy when it came out I was all for Buffy and Angel. Now re-watching it in 2020 I can see it should always be Spike and Buffy and fun fact after season 7 Buffy continues in comic book form and she does tell him she loves him and means it in “season 9” and they do get into a relationship...

Ok, this is legit the best Spuffy edit I’ve ever come across. Their’s is definitely the most complex, well-done, love/hate relationship ever portrayed on T.V. IMO. So many feels! I love the way he loves her. I just wish she felt for him equally. I guess maybe that’s the tragic beauty of their dynamic.

Holy shite, my whole body just ignited! What a video! I loved both Angel and Spike, but Spuffy was REAL. Spike was possibly the best character in that show, and Spuffy was a mature relationship, two broken people that came together. There is so much more to say, but... i'm just blown away by this. Great job!

If it helps…I think he said those words for her sake. He knew she found herself able to love him in that moment, but she's only ever loved that which is temporary, that which she will lose. He knew she would grieve, and he couldn't do anything about it but say one sentence, so he picked the sentence carefully. With those words, he tried to set her free from the pain she was about to subject herself to in letting herself love him just before losing him. He knew she loved him then. He just didn't want her to suffer. At the end of the day, he was just doing the only thing he ever cared about doing: protecting her. Even from herself.

He was the best thing in show and the end made me feel so depressed my mom was laughing at me like how can you cry over a vampire a bloody creature... but he was the main reason I started watching the show and he was never a creature for me he was more real than anything else in my life😂😂 love spuffy💖

I’ve always loved Joss’s writing... he says so much without having to finish the thought, letting his perfectly picked cast use their facial expressions and body language to deliver the lines. Like when Spike is in the church with Buffy, giving his speech. James is perfect in his nuanced delivery...”to be the kind of man who could never (do what he did in ‘Seeing Red’ - he can’t finish saying it because he’s so disgusted with himself)... to be a kind of a man”

Well. . .I just got hit with a wave of emotion I was not prepared for, and now I'm a wreck! I love spuffy so much! I forget how much a lot of the time but your video just brought it all flooding back! I can't believe it ended with Spike saying "no you don't but thanks for saying it"! Buffy's love was real, Spike! What am I supposed to do with myself now?

I think he knew. But he also knew that she always loses everything she loves, and didn't want her to just have to live through another iteration of that. It's clear that his love for her was pure and absolute, so he wouldn't have wanted her to suffer. HIs last words were spent protecting her from herself. He knew she meant what she said, but he also knew that in meaning them, she was inflicting more misery on herself; those words were meant to set her free, and nothing else. After all, nothing else could ever matter to him.

Angel was basically MIA in this series and could only love her with a soul. I'm rewatching and Spike, a soulless vampires continually sacrifices everything for her and not only her, her friends and the people she loves. This is the REAL lhero and the REAL love story.

as a kid, I remember wanting Buffy to be with Angel. but rewatching the Buffy and Angel series when I got older, made me realize they are meant for other people. Spike was meant for Buffy and Cordelia was meant for Angel, or at least that's how I see it and I can't imagine it any other way.

The best love story of all time❤️ I’ve been a HUGE Spuffy fan since the late 90s (I shipped them back in season four🤣) and I’m just so happy to see all the new generations of “chosen ones” enjoying the show and loving their love as much as I always have. To me, Buffy and Spike are forever endgame. Not only did he love her without a soul but he went through hell and back to be the man he knew she deserved. Beautiful video for such a beautiful story❤️

For future reference, two of my favorite quotes of his are 1. the little speech he gives to Angel and Buffy when they're in the shop and he's all heartbroken over Drusilla. Spike:" You're not friends. You'll never be friends. You'll be in love till it kills you both. You'll fight, and you'll shag, and you'll hate each other till it makes you quiver, but you'll never be friends. Then 2. the talk he gives in the church before leaning on the cross and burning. Spike: "Buffy, shame on you. Why does a man do what he musn't? For her. To be hers. To be the kind of man who would nev... To be a kind of man. And she shall look on him with forgiveness... and everybody will forgive and love. And he will be loved. So everything's okay, right? C-can we rest now? Buffy? Can we rest?" You got really awesome things in this video too, and that music was lovely and passionate and perfect! I adore strings, the Violin, The Cello.... my God...

Marda Yeah same. On the other hand she was a traumatized 20 year old girl& he was almost 200 years old, so overall I think he handled it quite well. Don’t think Angel could have dealt with season 6 Buffy.

Well, the way I understood this is that without a soul one can only have selfish possessive love which Spike was really good at but Buffy is not very into. I mean, he did nearly all the creepy stalker things a guy can do. Once he got his soul, he stopped doing all of things and she mellowed quite a bit
