Question on the TC-100 kit. I there any sort of plan to offer a jacket for the lid of the fermenter? You're going through all the effort insulating the hoses and making a nice sleeve for the main body, but it seems like we're to dump a bunch of heat out the lid even with a buffer of CO2 on top of the wort/beer.

We've done testing and the amount of heat out or in is negligible in comparison to the cooling of a glycol chiller or heating from a heater.

I wanted a cf15 for a long time. I've got a flex plus (wish it was 10 gallons total making 8) that I am making a batch in now ".Vienna lager. "Because of the three leg design I was leaning towards a more beer x2 but beer and BBQ with Larry's review on the x2 now has me tilting back towards the cf15 (makes a little more also.) Like Vinnie barbarino I'm so confused . But I won't cry if I buy ! (Sjogrens syndrome) I love Spikebrewing and have a great memorial day!

We have 4 legged conicals it doesn't make a difference. 3 legs will always be steady (think camera tripod). The only way that the conicals will be less tippy if the legs are splayed outwards. You could add 50 straight legs and it won't make a difference. Very common misconception.

New spike customer here, just bought a CF10 with a lot of the accessories and am very pleased at the engineering quality of everything, including the all-in-one PRV kit. My plan is to do a couple different big beers in it, either double IPAs or imperial stouts with close to max capacity (11g). If that's the case, should I buy a backup PRV just in case the all-in-one gets clogged for some reason, just for an extra measure of safety, or are there enough safety features built into the CF10's seal and the all-in-one PRV that I shouldn't worry about redundancies? Also, the top seal is my only complaint about the engineering. The band around the outside of the clamp seems wider than it needs to be, and it is just a hair too big to fit into my Rapt Fermentation Chamber, which is a bummer. I have some plans to void the warranty of that Rapt fridge with a little bit of Dremel tool sanding to remedy that, but in future releases if you're prototyping a new, thinner top seal clamp, hit me up and I'm glad to test for you. Love what you guys do and very glad to support Spike.

If you use the Spike All-In-One you don't need a second PRV. Happy brewing!

Please pardon a stupid question...just got the CF10. With the racking arm...since the unit is sealed and you can't really see in there (even if you have the clear 4" top, you can't really see in the dark there well)...how do you know how far to turn the racking arm while still avoiding the yeast bed? Thank you in advance, CC

You'll watch the indicator on the outside of the racking arm to see its position. We'd recommend using clear transfer tubing. As soon as you see sediment start to flow you can stop.

I have one of these fully decked out. Love it. My only concern is the thermal well and the temp probe you slide in. Everything is top notch engineering. The temp gage and thermal well is kind of a sketchy solution. I lager all year long with this.

What issue do you have with this? We've been selling this product for many years with this same setup and haven't heard of any issues.

This is beginners question. How do you do the carbonation process with cf15 fermenter? I have a batch fermenting at the moment.

Question about half-batches in my cf-10. What am I doing wrong? I’ve run into issues maintaining lager fermentation temps on 5 gallon batches. No problems at all on full batches. It occurred to me maybe it has to do with the direction I’m pushing cold through the coil since one direction is a straight line to bottom and returns up through the coil vs going coiled route down and returning up the straight side. Whats the best practice here? Tips/tricks? Thanks!

Double check your glycol temp, look for icing coils, make sure you have a big enough batch where enough coils are being submerged.

What do you consider a “big enough” batch? What is the minimum? I’m referring to a half batch meaning about 5 gallons inside your 10 gallon fermenter. Your own video even says specifically that you can cold crash a half batch with the coil so again, what is it I am failing to understand? There’s clearly something I’m doing wrong

@@nb561 Usually we recommend a 6-11gal batch in the CF10. Are you a member of the Spike User Group? They might be able to help troubleshoot as well. Super helpful group!

@@SpikeBrewing yes, I posed the same question to the group and think I solved the mystery. I was running glycol the wrong direction like I suspected. Problem solved.

@@SpikeBrewing yes there’s a little over 6 gallons in the fermenter for a 5 gallon batch in my case. One direction of glycol flow is apparently great for a half batch af ale temps but helps to reverse it for a half batch at lager temps. As a test I put water in in the fermenter and reversed the direction of flow late last night and woke up this morning to it holding temperature perfectly.
