Watching him ease into his brilliant performance of ‘It’s Not Unusual’ reminds us of how talented he was. He was unlucky to be in the Gareth and Will year as he was definitely good enough to win. An absolute tragedy to lose him so young.

I just remember that he’d had a goatee, long hair, and did a weird Britney Spears thing (didn’t watch pop idol). Did not realise how stunningly attractive, talented, and sweet he was. Such a shame. Rest in Peace Darius. Thoughts are with everyone who loved him.

I love Darius's singing voice. It is so smooth as velvet and I will miss hearing him sing on stage in person. He had such a lovely presence in him and he lights up the room when he walks into any type of room. He was such a lovely person as well. I will always cherish and keep the memory of me meeting him at Funny Girl in London and him calling me beautiful and kissing me on both hands. I will always think of him and listening to his music and his singing voice. Rest in Peace Darius. I will miss seeing you on stage. You will always be on my mind.

At 10 years old, watching this live on TV, I remember thinking I wanted to be “cool like Darius”. I haven’t seen this clip since that day. Instantly unlocked some nostalgia and that youthful feeling. So incredibly sad that it’s taken hearing of your death to run into all of this Material again. So much confidence to smile and sing just as you did, the same qualities you inspired in younger me all those years ago, my brother. In peace may you rest. If any of his family and friends are reading this, I’m absolutely certain his work on TV only enriched other people’s lives, and brought so much joy. Also, is it just me, or is everything about this video just so emotional? From showcasing the innocent demeanour he always carried, to the clip of young him playing “I get by with a little help from my friends”, to Simon Cowell’s expression showing that he’s coming to peace with admitting Darius’ singing talent and that he deserves his place on the show. Just an absolute time capsule emotion roller coaster.

Seeing that home video really upset me, knowing that he did have success but didn’t live long to enjoy more of it. Still can’t believe it. I really loved him 😢

From a fellow Glaswegian, sad to hear the news he passed away, always came across as a very decent human being and was a total credit to his parents. My thoughts are with his family at this sad time.
