A family friend of ours was in the Navy and served down there decades ago... there was this dare people did, running out the door and around the flag pole and back.. naked. Like a rite of passage. Is that still done?

LOL! we can neither confirm nor deny that this may be something that happens... but mainly because we were never at the south pole! We heard a lot of crazy stories while we were there, a lot of weird things happen when you don't have the internet!

Hey! So are you guys both in the military? If so what branch and how did you get the military to let you into Antartica? Thanks :) my boyfriend and I want to join military in America so it would be cool to figure out how to get on the base there.

Hey Amaliya and Justin, the military is only stationed in Antarctica for a couple of months out of the year. Civilians can go down all year round. If you are interested in Military Antarctic work... The coast guard ice breaker sails down from Washington state and slices through the ice for a couple of weeks. The ship only docks at base for 2-3 days. The Air force is your best bet for a longer stay. The air guard is stationed down there from October to February with deployments ranging from 4 to 10 weeks. And finally, the army comes down for the month of February to offload the annual vessel that brings down all the food and supplies for the year.

I wish more people would visit Antarctica and turn into normal humans again. In my opinion those 'unsocial media" have converted lots of people into selfish idiots.
