Gold Seal Flight Training

Gold Seal Flight Training

4 ай бұрын

While spin training is only required for Flight Instructors, spin awareness is necessary for all pilots. This includes an understanding of both spin avoidance and spin recovery. With the help of Rich Stowell and Spencer Suderman, we'll show you what's involved in this video.

I have no plans on piloting an aircraft, but for some reason I feel the need to learn how to do emergency actions in the cockpit. I think it's just good to know. Like first aid. On a side note, I always thought that you were supposed to do rudder opposite the spin and aileron... something? In the direction of the spin? Which seems unnatural, but spins were something that killed a lot of pilots during WWI and someone developed the technique that evolved into what is taught today. I read about it a LONG time ago, so I might be remembering wrong. EDIT: I just looked it up and it might be related to biplanes or possibly certain military aircraft requiring some aileron action.

What surprises me is that elevator comes last in this checklist. Basically this is the most important control surface to get out of a spin as it reduces the AOA on the wings and gets your aircraft flying again.

Elevators are not responsive in a stalled aircraft, that’s the reason.

I guess due to the importance of controlling spin rotation. Particularly at low altitude the natural instinct would be to regain Level flight but where a stall is elevators don't work
