The following comes from a mission statement that appeared in the inaugural issue of SPIN. It means as much to this current staff as it did to the original writers and editors.
A confession: SPIN is imperfect. It’s rough-edged, restless, insatiably curious. A little aggressive, a little cocky. Youthfully uncompromising, but maturely flexible. Romantic - definitely! Irreverent - sure! Unpredictable - yes. Very alive.

I used to imagine that he drove Sting CRAZY with his manic personality. And....A click track? I'm 66, a self taught drummer, and the only click track I'VE ever used is the one in my head. I don't find this tune to be difficult at all to play.

@@dme1016 the verses have a very odd rhythm. I’m self taught and played for 28 years. It may not be that hard. But him counting it threw me off as it did him as well. Way easier to play it without counting. That’s the self taught part of me. And I play tons of odd time signatures

You ever listen to Oysterhead?! His playing on their first album blows my mind. Specifically Rubberneck Lions is so fun to me. I’m not a drummer but I love listening to him play. I don’t like The Police cuz their songs lack dynamics or any quality songwritings for the most part. Walking On the Moon and Roxanne are great. And I love so much of Stewart’s standout playing but man are so many police songs just monotonous and boring otherwise. They really never made many songs that had powerful changes in the chorus or bridge. I think Sting, as talented as he is, was a weak songwriter. (Yes I’m aware this is bound to be an unpopular opinion! Ha. Check out Oysterhead tho!)

I play once a week rarely twice in my bedroom. haven't been in a band in 25 years and last time I played on stage was about 2005ish on open jam nights. Part of what makes this such a tricky part to play is the guitar rhythms that Andy Summers is playing throughout, especially during the break down, when he introduces the little melody. That melody can be heard as phrased both on the upbeats, or as following Stewart’s down beats. So if your ear hooks onto the down beat version for too long, you’ll get lost. More please Stuart. My first love at age 13! I'm now 57 and still love him. I had a huge poster of them on my bedroom wall for years. My favourite band of all time. I don't think there's 1 song that doesn't evoke a great memory of my teenage years.
