Spindle Speed Variation - Stop chatter during CNC turning

Chatter during turning is an unfortunate reality for lathe operators everywhere . . . and combating chatter can be difficult to say the least!
Fortunately, the Spindle Speed Variation (SSV) feature - available on all Haas lathes - can potentially reduce or even eliminate the effects of chatter during cutting.
In short, SSV speeds up and slows down the spindle continually during cutting, and changing spindle speed in this manner can often keep the cut out of the chatter zone.
This video gives an in-depth look at how the feature works, and shows examples of using SSV both with and without tailstock support. We conclude by taking a look at how SSV works in conjunction with two common G-codes: G96 and G50.

I have no Idea why I watched the whole thing, but it was very entertaining and especailly, very educational. It makes so moch sense to do this, but I've never thought about it. Maybe I can adapt this to some extend on my wooden Lathe when I'm working on it. Great explanation, great visuals and great moderator. Very nice!

Thank you for sharing the experience. But can you please tell us what are the drawbacks of ssv on CNC hardware? While you are changing the spindle speed I think there is a brake effect on spindle. This may cause spindle life to decrease.

A job has been started on the Sir Turning machine, which is 1235 and Audi 30 is lengthy and the Audi 226 is large, the vibration is coming very much on how to fix it.

Can this setting affect the lifespan of the vector drive, even below maximum spindle load? I've heard of a scenario where the spindle encoder belt was slack causing the spindle to hunt and subsequently cooking the vector drive, this seems similar.
