Then came the gentle breeze,with the 'chilly' sound of the haze and thick darkness when the birds chirp. The rain fall's in clusters and the hibiscus blossoms as it crouches on the leafy branches. I think the birds may have slept in cages with their friends.kitten friends are sleeping in the corner of the set of chairs. The house is not as it used to be, very dark. But I really love that natural darkness. It's like the heavenly world when the whole house is pale with lightning striking silver. For this beautiful darkness, the perfect light is not an electrical lamp but a clay lamp. Light comes through the window only when rain clouds move here and there. Even though we live in the Southern Province because of this beautiful rainy climate we feel like we are living in Nuwaraeliya. I think winter has arrived to the entire Sri Lanka. The rain started at 4 O'clock in the morning and cleared a little around 6 O'clock in the morning.
Before the next heavy rain started, stepped out from the home to go to Rathne Uncle’s Cultivation land avoiding inauspicious time. Early morning rain isn't good for Spiny Gourd Flowers (Thumba Flowers) because pollination may get affected. Still, Rathne Uncle didn't come to do artificial pollination which will help to increase the yield of Thumba Karawila. I think Rathne Uncle was delayed due to the rain. I wonder if anyone did not remember the "Tung Thumba Flowers......Thumba Flowers....Thung Thumba flowers" song as soon as saw the yard full of yellow Spiny Gourd Flowers (Thumba flowers). Quickly did flower pollination for four beds and then I plucked Spiny Gourds. I could find a lot of different names for this vegetable which we call Thumba Karawila. Some of those names are Forest bitter gourd, Bristly Balsam Pear, Kantola, prickly carolaho, Teasle gourd or Momordica dioica. I wanted to pluck some Spine Guards and I wanted to go home quickly. Today the rain-delayed and I think rain is also in my favour.
Just as I was stepping on the river road, Saki our beloved Doggi jumped on me. I was stunned. Oh my gosh! Saki has come to the river with My Dad in the early morning and had a bath in this Cold weather. I felt to give one shot to Saki! 😡😁
The rain started as I entered the house. The coldness of the kitchen was low because of the burning stove. Dish made with Spiny Gourd is one of our favourite dishes at our home. Also, it has a lot of virtues. At our home, everybody likes to eat Spiny Gourd Curry cooked with creaminess coconut milk but without gravy.
With chillie powder, spices, pandan leaves and curry leaves adding more ingredients like Maldives Fish, Tomato, and Tamarind will make this dish delicious. Wash and cut the Spiny Gourds into circles and then take out the seeds from the middle. With the Spiny Guard pieces mix pepper, salt, turmeric powder, and cornflower and then deep fry. Again temper it with onion, green chillies, ginger, garlic and cuttlefish. This is one of my younger brother's favourite dishes.
With grated coconut add onion, pandan leaves, ginger, garlic, turmeric powder, chillie powder, pepper powder, salt and curry powder, and then mix it well. Add chopped Spiny Gourds into the mixture and mix it again. Then the raw test will go. Heat a pan with little oil. Add mustard seeds. Once the mustard seeds start spluttering add onion, curry leaves, dried baby shrimp (Kunisso) and saute it. Then add the coconut mixture into the pan, mix well and keep it for 10 minutes and saute it. When ginger, garlic and Mustard temper in the dish it will give a good aroma.💛
My Dad went to the Cinnamon Cultivation Lands, but he could not do much work over there. Because continues raining. Today is a cold day; it's worth taking hot hot lunch pack for my Dad. Other than my dishes my Mother made a fry with Potatoes and beetroot. I got the temptation for that dish. My Mother's dish added extra beauty to the lunch pack. I brought Pomegranate and Mandarin for my Dad for him to have as a dessert. 😁When I'm taking lunch to my Dad, on the way rain started here and there. As I said, Dad didn't do much work. My Dad was unable to do outside work due to the rain. My Father took the lunch pack from me and started to have his lunch without going to the eating spot, I guess he was very hungry. 😍
