Lets be honest here. There are big airlines who are in bed with these politicians, and this merger wouldnt be good for them.Thats as simple as it gets. Now all of a sudden the government cares about the low price fares for the consumers😮‍💨.Give me a break.

Competition won't be eliminated and spirit/ jetblue combination will still be a small percentage of the market. Hypocrisy by the US government. Judge will decide not the US government.

How will it not effect competition? Looking at their routes, JetBlue, on average, cost 3-4x the ticket price of Spirit. When they buy Spirit, they will eliminate the Spirit pricing and move to Jetblue pricing. There are only THREE low-cost carries in the US, Spirit, Allegiant and Frontier - and more often than not they don't even share routes - so there is NO competition in many markets.

I support merger, creating big 5 is better than current big 4. When JetBlue and spirit are separate companies and small, they can’t pose any serious threat and competition to AA, delta and United to force them lower price. Once they are big enough we have 5 large carriers all want the limited amount of people that will force them to lower the price.

That just isn't the case -- I cannot think of any time in history, where mergers of large companies have led to better competition. If Spirit is $100, JetBlue is $250, and American is $350 - The Spirit/JetBlue merger means that Jetblue can still charge $250 and still claim to be the 'cheapest option', and there is nothing the consumer can do about it now.

American, Delta and United were already too big to begin with. I still remember all the old airlines these three massive airlines gobbled up. I mean I was in middle school when TWA was picked up by American, I was a toddler when Eastern airlines was picked up by Continental Airlines and I would graduate High School the same year Continental would merge with United. Same can be said about the other airlines. I was in middle school when TWA was picked up by American and a Sophomore in High School when American West airlines was picked up by American, I was a Junior in High School when I would fly with Northwest airlines for the first and last time and I was 26 when I found out American airlines would be merging with US Airways. While mergers happen, it's the customers and employees that are most affected by the decisions made behind the scenes.

@@landonp629but that $100 spirit airfare is not actually $100 and it’s a $3.8B acquisition - a drop in the bucket in comparison to the US airline market

@@brandonwhite958 What do you mean that $100 fare isn't a $100 fare? I have flown Spirit on many occasions and never paid more than the listed fare, which is often times much les than $100. I guess if you want to bring a ton of bags, pick your seat, and buy food and drinks - yeah it could be as expensive or more than a traditional airline - but then WHY fly Spirit? Spirit is for people just looking to get from point A to B without paying for bags they don't need or food they don't want, or in-flight entertainment they don't need. I NEVER buy seats, only travel with a personal item for free, etc.

Why can't the big 4 compete with each other? What the different with big 4 and big 5? All 5 of them just control 90%+ of the market and make their own price.

Just look at the numbers. The merger still makes them smaller than the big four. Even is spirit vanishes, other airlines will take its place. Thats how free markets/capiralism work. The barrier to entry into the airline industry isn't high...

It’s going to create space for Frontier, Sun Country, Allegiant, Breeze, Avelo and Southwest in the ULCC & Low Cost division while giving us more options for transcon and frequencies out of The Northeast and Florida. Not to mention JetBlue Is light years better than American right now!!

Eliminating an ultra low cost carrier is anti competitive. If JetBlue wanted to merge. They should’ve brought out Virgin America when they had the chance. Virgin America and JetBlue are both low cost carriers, Spirt And Frontier are both ultra low cost… A merger with JetBlue and Virgin America wouldn’t change much, a merger with Spirit and Frontier wouldn’t change much either.. But a merger with spirit and JetBlue would change everything. The merger should not happen.

This merger, if it goes through, will significantly raise JetBlue’s cost and DEBT, reducing it’s ability to force lower fares. At the same time, they will be eliminating an ULCC. REALLY bad for consumers, and REALLY bad for JetBlue’s future. Someone on here said that Jetblue could become what TWA should have been in the 90s. That’s only partially true. They will become what TWA WAS in the 90s…saddled with debt and trying to stay afloat.

Ass a spirit worker, what will happen to us? Not once have they talked about the way this could affect the families and people who are supported by the company. That raises red flags for me so I pray this deal does not go through.

Do a little more research. Because what you were saying is incorrect. JetBlue would acquire Spirit and claims there would be no layoffs of Spirit staff and they point to their record of no furloughs .

Definitely do more research. If the deal happens you’ll keep your job JetBlue would absorb your operating and rebrand. I’m sure you’ll make more money too. The worst part would be getting acclimated to how JetBlue wants you to work.
