Spirit's Backstory

Spirit, a Bald Eagle and Raptor-in-Residence, found her way to our Center in 2016 after being discovered in a ditch in Juneau, AK, most likely the result of being hit by a car. Though she mostly escaped unharmed, Spirit has a head tilt and very limited vision in her left eye due to scarring. She now has an important job, helping us educate the public about Bald Eagles and the dangers they face in the wild. #BaldEagle #AlaskaRaptorCenter #Conservation

Bald Eagles are simultaneously majestic and goofy. I live near a lock and dam where they winter in large groups and it’s a lot of fun to watch them.

Spirit is beautiful! I watch eagles nests all the time and always forget how big they are! I don’t often see them next to a person to be able to compare them. Such a gorgeous bird! 🥰🥰🥰

The first thing I noticed is the pupils of her eyes being different sizes. Poor baby. I’m glad she is happy and healthy here though. :)

I wish i had a nature job like that or land for wildlife to protect mother nature children for in my areas sad they cutting vast amount of trees and destroying birds nesty tree i got 20 bird trying to find a new nest now or build one.

Her left pupil is more dilated than her right. Wonder if that is caused by the eye damage she had, as it often is indicative of brain damage (which it sounds like she has if she suffers a 30 second delay).
