Spirit Yachts partners with James Bond film No Time To Die

Spirit Yachts has announced a partnership with EON Productions, Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studios (MGM) and Universal Pictures International. The partnership sees a Spirit 46 sailing yacht feature in the upcoming film No Time To Die in UK cinemas from 30th September and in the U.S. from 8th October 2021.
Suffolk-based Spirit Yachts’ partnership with the James Bond films began when a Spirit 54 yacht was chosen to feature in the 2006 film Casino Royale, in which James Bond and Vesper Lynd can be seen cruising into Venice onboard a Spirit 54.
Spirit Yachts CEO and Head of Design Sean McMillan commented, “The James Bond films are a mainstay of British culture and we are honoured to be continuing our partnership with such an iconic brand.”
In the forthcoming film, Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica, where a Spirit 46 sailing yacht is featured.
Sean McMillan continued, “The Spirit 46 is one of the original Spirit Yachts designs and is an example of the level of craftsmanship and attention to detail that goes into every Spirit yacht. I think the yacht suits the Bond character very well because of the combination of beauty and practicality.”
A true modern classic yacht, the Spirit 46 showcases long overhangs, flush decks and an elegant profile. A day sailing yacht capable of up to 18knots sailing speed, the Spirit 46 looks beautiful on the water and has the sailing performance of a regatta racing yacht.

Thank you for sharing. I love how the founder here explains why this boat is a good choice for the Bond character- he hits the nail on its head! And what an exquisite yacht it is. I love how Spirit managed to use quality craftsmanship, wood and wood crafting - to build an all purpose yacht that looks stunning without being posh modern, and it looks like it can sail too. I hope to get the chance to sail one, some time

Absolutely beautiful yacht. Fine lines, and looks to be lovingly built. But as someone who has over 60,000 blue water ocean sailing miles, it is not a design suited for ocean travel. With the open cockpit and low free-board, one would be uncomfortably wet all the time. Also, for it relative length, it would have severely cramped room below decks. As a day sailor around the bay, it would be a wonderful toy for a rich person, though.

I think you would prefer their ‘deck house’ design. Regardless - if you have grit, determination and can tolerate prolonged discomfort as we should imagine anyone with 007 aspirations should, then you can sail this one anywhere…

He only said the boat could do it - not the sailor. I agree though, given the choice one would be a masochist to undertake an around the world journey in such a boat. But the sheer beauty of the old classic designs is undeniably more aesthetically pleasing than the modern floating caravans being churned out now.

@@maxflight777 You can sail across the Atlantic in a small dinghy. Not that you would want to do it... It's like going on the Autobahn in a tuk-tuk moped. You definitely need a Toyota Camry, like at least a beneteau oceanis, but you would rather do it in a mercedes, like an oyster yacht. This Spirit Yacht is like an open top classic CJ5 Jeep Wrangler, it will get you across the ocean with style, but quite uncomfortably.

Please correct me if im wrong. I had the feeling in "No time to die", that Bond sets sail, i think from Cuba to Bermuda or something like that on a White boat and arrives on a Blue one.. Did i see wrong?

I want one of these in a 46ft. This will be my retirement boat, which I will name after my wife and the Queens Great Niece, Arabella. FYI my in-laws use to own Shales Manor in Ipswich. These look to be beautifully built, wooden sloops but I’m not sure I would take one in open water. My wife won’t go cruising with me but likes sailing close to shore, so this could be a great retirement toy. Also, being English and from her families Native Ipswich, it’s meant to be.

Bond wouldn't faff around with a gaff rig. A good fractional rig is powerful on all points of sail, is elegant and easy to handle.

@@Tomm9y All good points but the design of the rig on this yacht does not suit the language of the hull and coachwork. You can have a fractional rig that is in keeping with the hull and coachwork. This yacht looks like a chariot with mag wheels.

They paid Spirit (certainly in Casino Royale) for the use of the yacht, so far from being a sponsor.

I wouldnt want to go round the world on that, its wasnt built for it and the owner knows it. Its Beautiful but its meant for coastal cruising warm waters

No protection from the sun. No headroom. Little interior room for its’ length. Wood is vulnerable to toredo worms in the tropics. Finding skilled people to work on a wood boat has become difficult, edpecially at this price point. Need I go on?

@@captainsalty9022 you can erect a Bimini if you don't have a hat. Not everyone want a floating apartment. Copper the bottom. Plenty of wooden boats exist, you can plan maintenance. That's not to say the GRP "caravans of the sea" have no place, but this one does too.

@@captainsalty9022 46 feet is more than enough boat for two people. And in the big open water that’s what autopilot is for! Also that boat comes with air conditioning and a generator along side the cool breeze you’d have while sailing in the wind!

Lovely boat but expensive and definitely aimed at sailing coastal waters. Across oceans no. Need to ask any owner and even the CEO how many such voyages have been done on Spirit yachts of this size.

@@seyedclean4012 not sure that he would, these yachts have a 2 meter draft. Due to many shallow anchorages the most suitable boats for the Caribbean are catamarans and the most sexy is the gunboats, fast and expensive.

Sailing is very over rated......Sail boats are a pain in the ass work you to death and are complete money pits......Motor boats are the only way to go.....I'd rather see Bond pull up on a Seadoo spark than this thing.

If you own a Beneteau or some other blob of plastic moulded shite then yes, but a boat as stunning as this would be a labour of love. You obviously owned the former and/or didn’t possess the skills to maintain it.

Sailing boats are money pits to the point you think it's cheaper to buy diesel to travel the world? At UK prices to refill a Bering 65, the smallest in the range, is £17,000 per shot; to refill a Bering 80 is £45,000. You can find cheaper fuel, but it can cost you more in more remote locations too. I'm not a sailing person because I admit I don't have the skills or inclination to learn, so I gawp at motoryachts, but Spirits are things of beauty. You have no soul, and you clearly aren't buying very much fuel either. I take it your yacht is an Intex inflatable dingy with plastic oars?

Who “pulls up” in a yacht? And why would Bond be worried about the running costs of his chosen craft? Next you’ll be explaining to us the impracticalities of running an Aston Martin. This yacht has class and elegance, which is the whole point.
