My Sister-in-law fell in love with a red Spitfire of roughly the same vintage, but WAY more miles. It was driven stock for a little while as the problems showed themselves...then she turned it over to my brother for a little tweaking and updating... Short story long, it ended up with a bone stock 3 liter Ford Ranger V-6 and 5-Speed...about double the power of the factory setup. It sounds SO sweet with true dual exhaust through Honda Goldwing mufflers. It's no barn-burner, but it can definitely get out of its own way! There's a video I shot from the passenger seat floating around out there somewhere...perhaps on my channel under Fun Stuff. For my brother, it's a bit of a throwback to a Triumph TR-4 he had when he was a kid in the mid-'70s. That particular car had inherited a 2 liter Ford Pinto engine that held together at 8,000RPM, and it would outrun his buddy's GS 455 Skylark...after being trounced soundly in a quarter-mile drag. Break-even, where the Trumpet would slowly roll by the GS, was between a half and full mile from the start...depending on wind direction! The brother and his wife drive the dickens out of the V-6 Spit on warm, sunny, days from spring through fall.

Well, what can I say,,? First, I'm English in the UK and I owned one of these in the mid eighties. Over here you were lucky to come across one then.! Wow, they rotted almost as fast as the rev counter. So it's brilliant to see this now. ✌️👍🇬🇧

That Cable is the engine ground cable, without that the engine will not start! And yes, you can pull the transmission without pulling the engine!

What is the cable tethering the engine to the frame?!? Really? Can't tell if he is serious and doesn't know what an engine ground strap looks like. And it takes about 30 minutes to pull and engine and transmission from a Spitfire. It's connected with what, three electrical connections, four hoses, two engine mounts, and the transmission has four bolts holding it in. Surely they're very experienced and are just hamming it up for the camera?

my aunts were always fighting over who gets my grandfather's spitfire (red)... last I heard, it was in canada with one of them nearly 2 decades ago... (used to be around metro detroit for most of it's existence)

Had a 79 Spitfire as my first car i was always breaking something on it ...changed the Trans in it a couple times by rolling it out the door with the seats removed

My uncle has a Triumph. It’s a POS and breaks down about every time he drives it but he won’t get rid of it.
