Usually the laminate will.. be bonded onto chipboard or MDF. Water ingress ion is not a concern providing it has a good edge and sits in a waterproof track. Thanks for getting in touch

There are manytypes of splashbacks apart fron granite and quartz. Glass is readily available, but if you want laminate you need to go to a kitchen specialist

Just go with glass, laminate and heat not good together

Hi, yes it is a great method of fitting splash backs to the work top. You should find that most, quality, manufacturers have a similar system. The one I showed you is supplied by our manufacturers who are a German company, called Schuller. I’m sure if you approached kitchen studios who sell custom made kitchen, usually continental. They would be happy to supply you with some. You may have to wait a few weeks as most companies wouldn’t stock them. Bear in mind that they are designed to take a better quality splash back, ie. 16mm thick. So, check on the type of splash back first before investing in the metal strips.

Hi Jennifer. Thanks for your comment. We get the hanging strip,from our kitchen manufacturer, who are German. They are n integral part of the splash back which in turn generally matches the work top. You could find a local kitchen company that deals with the quality end of the market and just buy the splash backs from them . But they won’t match your tops. The alternative is to just buy surface mounted strips as opposed to an integrated strip.

Hi Isabelle. Many thanks for your generous comments. The dark work top you are referring to is actually a ceramic worktop. One thing you will notice about it is that is 12mm thick. This particular top has a “honed” finish, Matt not polished. You can achieve a similar look and thickness with Quartz. You may also want to look at a product called Dekton, which is very similar.

Very much in the eye of the beholder. There’s no problem having different materials it’s just if the colour combination works. However, black is neutral and usually there is already black in the kitchen, ceramic hob and oven doors, so I think it should be fine

Hi, thanks for your question. Yes they would usually sit down onto a work top. If they are running behind a free standing oven we would usually run them further down, say 50mm, and sit that on a small baton. 2”x1” say, for extra support . Remember if you are having a gas top then the splash back needs to be heat resistant.

Hi Penny. I have used acrylic doors but not splashbacks. You shouldn't have a problem with an induction hob if isn't set too close to the splashback. This can have a lot to do with the thickness of the splashback. Gas would be a problem.

Hi Liz. I don’t particularly like steel/aluminium splash backs. I know they are used mostly in commercial settings where function is more important than appearance. They are difficult to keep looking good and tend to show all,the grease splashes. I have done quite a few she the client has specifically asked for them and there is no real problem in fitting them. You don’t use the metal trough though. Because of their, if it’s available to you, use the steel that is bonded to a panel which makes it thicker. Just using 2mm thick sheets makes the seal to the top tricky especially if your work top isn’t a perfect fit to the wall. The thicker panels will usually wrap the steel around any seen edges so it looks quite good. Hope this helps.

Ok I'm afraid the track we show comes from the kitchen manufacturers and is built in to the splashback. You can buy surface mouneted rails but they don't look quite as good, sorry

What material would you recommend to go behind a gas hob but also look good around a window sill?

Hi. Yes you can have a different splashback to the work surface. We do it many times. However, neutrality is key. In a typical kitchen there are usually 3 fixed items. The work top , the door, and the floor. Usually we suggest that one of the 3 can be a strong colour and the other 2 should be neutral. You can use the same finish that’s on the door as the splashback finish and you will still only have 3 colours. But if you don’t do this then you have introduced a 4th fixed colour. In this case we suggest that you match , as close as possible, to one of the neutral colours that appear on the top, door or floor. Remember that black and wood grains are neutral colours.

Sorry but quite simply somebody has measured them wrong. They should fit tight up to the wall units. Get back on to the kitchen company and get them to change them.

Yes we run laminate splash backs behind induction hobs often. The only reason you shouldn’t do it with a gas hob is because the flame can spread up the side of the pan and can get quite close to the cladding especially with large pans like woks. If any of our clients has reservations about doing this with induction hobs we occasionally make the work top 650mm deep to create a bigger space at. The back of the hob.

I have 2 options as I want the laminate to be extended to below the kitchen units rather than just an upstand so I could either have the laminate also extended as the Splashback behind the hob and the extractor fan, or I could have a black/silver glass extractor. Virtually everyone has said to have the laminate otherwise it would look odd to have the glass as it would stand out, but my reservation was whether it’s wise to do this. Hi, that particular knife box is from the Schuller Next 125 range. It's called the Cube system. Be aware that it requires a particular splashback system to hook into.
