Really last time I checked I had no problem finding full lobbies in Splatoon 2.

The vibes of 1 and 2 are impossible to beat. Say what you want about it being old and demented I think they were much more fun than 3. 3 is more balanced and improves on a lot but I don't enjoy it as much as I ever enjoyed splat 2. The new music is the worst part. It just doesn't match that energy.

​@@13_cmi I think 1 or 2 feels more fun because of the novelty those games had. 3 is better in almost every way at this point, but its not a total paradigm shift like the previous games felt like. It's on the same console as the last game, the way you play and experience the game at its core didnt change much, so of course 3 might not have the same impact or "vibes" as you say. You've had too much of the same dish, regardless of the way it was cooked and served to you.

Yep. I've been playing TF2 on and off again for the first time this year, and it still feels like I die in 1-2 shots. Half the reason I'm a medic main is so I can actually contribute to my team during tougher matches. The other half is because is feels like no one else plays the class.

To be fair, most people are more likely to find it funny if you aren't good. Especially when you're new to tf2. And if people are getting legit mad at you for not being good, then they're dicks and you're better off ignoring them.

Yeah, unless you're big in Splatoon, you wouldn't know what's new in the game at first glance. I think adding a new casual mode and a slight change on the art style would have gone a longer way with casuals.

i hope splatoon doesn't turn into cod where every few years it gets a new game release which little changed. Too early to call right now and there's defo still enough differences at it stands between the games imo, but if it keeps going on this path then it could get bad really quickly.

@@Daft0Cean968 I was so happy to see the 3rd game return to form with stuff brought back from the first game on the Wii U with the ideas scaling from gameplay to lore being elaborated on. (How the inkling race came to be, what the lobby would have looked like in Inkopolis Tower, what would have happened if Team Order had won the final fest of Splatoon 2.) Anyways, I think the releases have great polish to differentiate from each other and different game direction that expands outside of the multiplayer.

@@stevenmcburney8167 it's a little more complicated than that. You see the difficulty and mobs intensity for one is greater than it was in splatoon 2. The different bosses really change the course of the battle as well. The mode doesn't really get interesting until you reach the vp ranks as well because that's when the differences are more apparent. Other improvements include how the snatchers have changed and how you can handle using them to your advantage. You can take advantage of other bosses to friendly fire their allies like the slammin lid and steelhead. The vast difference in egg potential is really noticable as well. 100 was peak in splatoon 2 but you can close to double that in the splatoon 3 version because of how many more bosses there are to drop eggs. And of course the king salmonoids is a raid boss that takes a collective effort to defeat. You have to be weary of circumstances like unreliable teammates or difficult weapons. I won't deny that there is a ton of missed potential and the insane prices of the shop items is daunting. However everything is still a massive step up from the splatoon 2 version which was kind of an afterthought. You only really understand the differences if you played both versions of the mode enough. And you only brought up the throw mechanic. That tells me that you don't really understand the mode. Which is alright. I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea. I however have around 6000 games in splatoon 3 and around 1000 games in splatoon 2. So I feel like I have a better grasp on the mode than most

@@clasher138 well most of what you mentioned are the bare bones expectations for a sequel. For me, I mostly play salmon run in splatoon. I’ve played splatoon 2 and 3 enough to know all there is about the salmon run mode as ive at times played it nonstop and still am rn. I just feel that splatoon 3 lacks personality. It’s a step up from S2, yes, but that’s all it is. I mean they could have introduced new sceneries for S3 salmon mode to differentiate it in appearance. Also different salmon run objectives/goals would have been cool, lots of creative potential there. The new bosses, kings etc are great, but again it just feels like splatoon 2 plus. It feels kinda cashgrabby, in its presentation and this is coming from someone who loves salmon run. Just wanna emphasise I still love salmon run, just pointing out that it could have been so much more for a sequel that’s on the same console as it’s predecessor

Yes they are the same. As a top literal 1% scoring overfisher, they are basically the exact same to a casual player. 1 egg throw, a couple new bosses, and better mob tracking with a few new rare wave types (yippe tornado riveting). Other than the new maps obviously. New suits? Not really important nor is customization ever brought up in these reviews. So yes, the same.

Not only that, but the maps from Splatoon 1 & 2 were just overall better and had multiple paths that could be taken to make it to the main central area where the majority of the action happens. Splatoon 3 lacks any of these alternative pathways in their original maps, making it so easy for one team to become bottlenecked and unable to leave the spawn area because of the other team camping on their side.

This is literally the map design philosophy that is missing from the series. I miss when you were fighting in lived-in locations that were part of normal everyday life that matched with the whole urban rebellious youth style. I miss the days of unique layouts like Saltspray Rig, Walleye Warehouse, Blackbelly Skatepark, Arowana Mall, Moray Towers, etc. I wish we had more maps with halfpipes or quarterpipes, not this bland tetromino-shaped layout that's compliant with the competitive scene.

it's my favorite of the trilogy, I don't think that's too controversial of a statement either. There are definitely places where I want it to improve for the next game, but it just oozes with personality and life in such a strong way that the previous games couldn't match.

Glad you enjoyed it. I think it's the best game in the series so far (not that you can go back to compare to splatoon 1 anymore...). It's far from perfect, but I still enjoy it

I think Splatoon 3 should have waited until the next Nintendo system in general. Give the series the same treatment as Mario Kart, as in one game per system. Nintendo could easily have released a spin-off rhythm-based game to tide fans over, especially with how much good music Splatoon has under its belt.

Would you believe me it way friend who reintroduced me to gyro when she also introduced me to Ranked with S3 because all I played in S2 used to be singleplayer, Octo Expansion and turf war?

@@krubbington S2 was very slow paced, especially since it didn't have Squid Surge or Squid Roll. It also has Main Powerup, which broke the game, and Sting Ray, the worst designed special in Splatoon history. Throughout S2s life, Sting Ray was either insanely awful or insanely broken. The game was also Shooter heavy, with Shooters getting all the kits and buffs, while the other classes had to scrounge. Case in point, Kensa .52 Gal, a two-hit kill shooter with defense (Splash Wall) and a panic button special (Booyah Bomb). S2 was, quite literally, broken beyond repair. None of these issues exist in S3 at all. On top of S3 having Tableturf and WAY better solo campaigns. TF2 never got replaced because 1. Valve, and 2. It was perfectly fine throughout its support.

aside from batman's point, there's also the fact that TF2 has a huge micro transaction economy that generates millions every year to this day, while at the very most, Splatoon gets a single 25$ DLC campaign that'll be bought at max a single time per person. Not saying that this alone justifies a new release or anything, but this + other reasons like the ones the other guy brought up compound to make a new game the preferred option for Splatoon.

I feel the same way. I loved Splatoon 1 and greatly enjoyed Splatoon 2, but Splatoon 3 didn't click with me and I dropped it before the end of its first season. I just feel they should have waited until the next Nintendo system before coming out with a brand-new Splatoon game, similar to how Mario Kart is one game per system. In the meantime, they easily could have continued updating Splatoon 2 and perhaps released a Splatoon rhythm-based game, given how great the series music is. It may not have sold as well as a mainline title, but I feel it would have been enough to tide people over.

As someone who's a big fan of 3 I get it 100%, liked the new worldbuilding and the art, music and characters it brought, was all about the sleeker gameplay and new balancing but I'll admit, something always feels lacking. At times it ends up feeling like a mod of 2, all the new characters being the least developed so far in their base game was a huge bummer too Even more at this point, it feels like like 3 was just made as a way to say goodbye to the conventions the series set but not by breaking said conventions, instead bringing them all together

I played Splatoon 1 and 2 a lot, but I only REALLY got into it after playing Splatoon 3.

As someone who’s in the trenches of splatoon and has played all of them a lot, and I play them A lot competitively, I have a very different view of splatoon 3 because of that and I feel way more like it was necessary. To explain some, end of splatoon balancing and meta was a total mess, it was so bad that the top picks where like in every single game past B rank, if you don’t play multiplayer much you wouldn’t have noticed this, but the meta became, pretty much exclusively shooters, and people noticed, it was the first time I’ve played a competitive game where the top picks where so prominent even the casuals realized how and why they where broken, it’s like if in smash bros the people playing casuals who say ganondorf is broken where correct and for all the right reasons, special spam became a huge problem, and I people would get 10 ink armors and missles per game, it was broken, and while I think it would’ve been better if they fixed it in updates, I’m kinda glad they didn’t l, a lot of the problems where fundementaly built in with the specials and it would’ve been weird if they just removed them in a update. Splatoon 3 meta has been waaaaay better then endgame splatoon 2, it’s has actual weapon variety instead of 6 shooters, and also made the movement feel so so so good, i doubt you would care much, but from someone who plays the games a lot, the new squid roll like doubled movements skill cap and made skill expression in movement way more fun. I still have issues with the game, mainly lack of content at launch, we still don’t have the same amount of weapon kits as we did in splatoon 2 which is frankly unacceptable, because the game might end updates with less than splatoon 2. And also the updates have been way to spread out which is annoying. As a very avid player I am glad they released a new game and think it was kinda necessary, but they should’ve waited and had more content at launch, at least the same amount as weapon kits and stages as in the game that came before it, ON THE SAME CONSOL.

I think the speed had been improved just about everywhere actually. Loading screen times for single player, salmon run animation optimization and frame increases/lowering the enemy count slightly, and improvements to the speed of result screens/ease of menu layout. All in all, I think it's quite playable and I don't see slowdown often enough to be an issue. (Only sometimes in Salmon Run at high EVP ranges at the end of a wave; i.e doesn't affect the active gameplay)

This mention of slowdown might be the case with the first version of switch models, but the lower network bandwith capabilities of the switch might be more of a problem than the infrequent moments of slowdown in the newer, improved models.

I respectfully disagree. I don't like Octo Expansion. I enjoyed both Alterna and Side Order more. Tableturf is a cute little side mode. The weapons and specials are WAY better than the first two games. The maps were all fixed after 8.0, and the recent maps are very fun (with Robo ROM-en easily being one of the best in the series). And while they did fumble the updates, the recent updates shows evidence of new devs, which is very good. Also, S3 is way, WAY more balanced than either previous game. As for Salmon Run, that was always just a worse Garden Ops for me. I never play, and I don't need to.
