Rules are simple - prestack 1/3rd of a cord, has to be hardwood, 12-15” diameter logs, no helpers or conveyers and the final splits have to be campfire size 3-4” pieces of firewood

Just a note for Eastonmade and you, Last week I ordered a 12-22 with a 4 way wedge and box splitter based on lots of research and YOUR VIDEOS. Your videos on this wood splitter were very honest and factual and are the main reason I bought the 12-22. My wife and I just bought 108acres in N Idaho that are completely forested. I am going to heat with wood and sell a few cords on the side. Thanks for the great content.

That’s great to hear. I stand by that recommendation of a box wedge and a 4 way. You will be blown away when you start breaking her in

Not sure how your going to store the wood but if your splitting yourself think about a conveyer. I own a 12-22 with a box wedge and it's very efficient. Makes a lot of waste in the form of kindling but it's quite the machine. My wood buddy has a skidy with a Klaw (for rounding up) and bought a old conveyer, what a blessing if you just trying to cush a pile of rounds. It will work you out due to its fast cycle time if your attempting to always keep it splitting. I'm going to be looking into a dump trailer in the next few years. Coupled with a conveyer it will take care of business. God bless the guy trying to keep up with stacking what comes off the out feed table.
@HometownAcres
@HometownAcres 4 жыл бұрын
would eyed13 haha I have a video coming up where I have a 40 foot row of rounds stacked as a wall. I’m just gonna run the splitter right down the row leaving a trail of splits right behind as I inch the splitter down the row. Stacking it is gonna be a pain. It’s probably 3 cords worth of wood
@wouldeyed1361
@wouldeyed1361 4 жыл бұрын
2 guys 6.5 hours today, Tha pile is over 12' tall and 16' or more across. Has to be 5-6 cords. We had to fix the conveyer twice due to jams but it was still worth it, so much easier to get rid of splits. Not really a wood elevator but it's working. This was our first long hard run with the conveyer, it makes a difference. For my own wood I split into 4x4x4 custom made crates. It's slower becaue I"m stacking as I split but ready to transport and with a lid on it ready to burn in a year. A mobile 1/2 cord woodshed and is pallet jackable on a hard surface. I put way to much thought into firewood but it's a great reason to enjoy cooler weather while warming the house.

How's she goin'? That Easton splitter is a rocket!!! The cycle time is really fast!!! I like that you can set the retract at the same time as the split stroke so that you can get the next round ready while the splitter is retracting. The side lift table can be a back saver too and that's important to me. A very heavy duty splitter for sure. The 6-way head can be a time saver and a time coster like you say. Great demo and thanks for taking part!!!

You split a bunch of that much smaller than I think most folks would have, but I think that is very consistent with your previous videos and in line with your wood-splitting business. If you had run each round through 1 time, to create 6 pieces and adhere to the rules, your splitter would have been much faster, but that isn't what you normally do. Thanks for giving us an honest perspective.

I live in Indianapolis and I have seen a rick go for $100 tops. I couldn't see spending that kind of money for wood, so I had a tree service drop off a load and I ended up with about 2.5 to 3 cords of wood. I just had to put in the labor of cutting it up and splitting it. I see bundles at the store for $5 or more, so I could certainly see making money at that!

I will say that Eastonmade Splitter impresses me. I did notice that you were splitting some of those pieces over twice, most of the other competitors ( so far ) are splitting approx 4 x 4 x 16 inch pieces, but it's all in fun, and all are doing a good job. It is going to be difficult to choose a winner here. Well done and of course Thumbs up!
@HometownAcres
@HometownAcres 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I’m splitting small because I’m going to sell this wood as camp fire wood. 4x4x16 would take too long to dry for this summer/fall sales. Normally wood that I split for my myself is atleast that big or bigger for my wood stove.

Serious question, but don't you think that auto feature is dangerous? I've just about pinched myself over the years from losing concentration or fatigue or distraction and that's with my hand on the control. That beast does not look forgiving. I was wincing when you went in to adjust the block while it was auto-advancing. Thanks for the preview. BTW I love everything else about your setup. After using a two-way splitfire I see the benefit of a one-way that pushes off from the end.
@HometownAcres
@HometownAcres 4 жыл бұрын
It’s easy enough to stop. Just pull both handles back. It’s no more dangerous than one without auto cycle. I usually only use the auto cycle when I’m walking away from the splitter to grab another log. If I’m standing there I keep my hand on the lever

How much does that log splitter cost. How much do you sell a 1/3 for. How much does it cost you per year to heat with wood. What I am getting at is how long would it take to pay for the cost of the spliiter versus heating with propane, oil, or heat pump. What part of the country to live in ... how cold are the winters?
