@loubuonojr4084 thank you for your observation. I'm wondering if you have found that the volume is consistent with that 0.62 ml over multiple vials? I'd be interested in hearing your results, and I plan to check mine the same way for more accurate dosing.

Hey so I just emptied 4 pens into a vial. In total, it came to 1.7ml instead of the expected 2ml. I would definitely check every time.

Regardless of the mg, the medicine is mixed WITH a solution of 0.5 ml

Did it work better with the bigger syringe?

@@daniellepapillion5659 I actually ended up sticking with the vial method and just ordered smaller vials (I had previously ordered 5mg vials, but those were way too big). Sometimes, I can get it all out, and sometimes, I still pop the rubber stopper off for the last dose in a vial. It's not that bad to have to deal with and it leaves the medicine more secure in my fridge, considering that others in the household move things around.

Did you inject air into the vial before trying to withdraw the dosage? You may have had a vacuum holding it back.

@@tonychin9900 I did, thank you. I actually ended up getting a different kind of vial and a smaller one, and that has worked out better for me over the past few months.

Taking the pin apart wasn't so bad. I was nervous though.

When you use the second method to shoot directly into a syringe, when you press the button, does the needle bump the syringe down? It seems like the needle would move down and possibly bump the syringe out of your hand. It's hard to tell from the video and I would be afraid to try this without knowing. I'm using Manjaro specifically.

@@robertkapty5053 I didn't try that one. I ended up injecting the mj directly into a sterile bottle with a sealed top I bought on Amazon.

You don’t really need to add any BAC water but you can if you want. It won’t hurt anything. It may help split the dose into smaller portions if you have 15mg pens and want something small like 2.5 or 5.

@SoCalSilverback Can you explain how to split the dose if not using BAC and wanting 10mg from 15mg please? What are the units per ml? I wanted to have both options and decide best way!

If I use half of a 15 mg pen and tuen it into two 7.5 mg doses, how long does the vial last on the fridge? Do I need to add anything to it so it lasts in the fridge?

So you want a half dose of the 2.5mg pens? The dose is 2.5mg/0.5mL, correct? Half of 2.5mg is 1.25mg and half of 0.5mL is 0.25mL. So to get a half dose you would need 0.25mL. A diabetic syringe is measured in UNITS, not milliliters. There are 100 units in 1mL. So for example, 0.5mL would be 50 units. In your case we need 0.25mL, which would be 25 units. Hope this helps!

I am using a 5mg pen, could this be the problem? You are using a 15?

I did this, i have messed up with the centering as many times as I’ve been successful…it’s super frustrating. I tried doing the bigger needle last time and lost a little but at least it wasn’t the whole pen

I mix 1ml Bacteriostaic Reconsitution Solution with 0.5 ml (15mg) Mounjaro. That will make it 1.5 ml total or 150 units. The reason for this is that it will make the splitting even into 2.5 mg doses much easier. So here's how many units you need to draw from the vial with insulin syringe after mixing 1ml BAC with .5 ml Mounjaro: 2.5 mg -> 25 units 5 mg -> 50 units 7.5 mg -> 75 units 10 mg -> 100 Another reason for mixing BAC water is that there are no preservatives in Mounjaro and BAC that contains .9% Benzoyl Alcohol ensures that bacteria does not grow in your vial and it lasts longer.

@paulcubito7895 It should last around 5 to 6 weeks weeks in the fridge, which is all you need. If you are drawing the minimum dose (2.5 mg) every week from the vial, it will take 6 weeks to finish it. So don't mix more than one 15mg pen at a time. Just do this when you run out. You will need to inject the Mounjaro pen into a 2 ml vial as if you are injecting it into your belly. Then draw 1ml BAC and inject it into the vial. Don't shake the vial it will all mix by itself. There are some videos on KZfaq for splitting mounjaro

However, you seemed very knowledgeable and thought that maybe you could help me with this. My doctor agreed to put me on Wegovy for weight loss, but the medication is not covered and the doctor has been giving me Ozempic samples (semaglutide, same drug as Wegovy; he only gave me one pen and I've made it last 2+ months, and it was the smallest dose, and I have lost good weight). I started it slower than it calls for (bc I have another condition that can sometimes cause issues with new meds and I started S L O W, and with Ozempic it was easy to do because you can dial the pen to the amount that you want to take). However, starting the beginning of this year he said that there was new legislation that is supposed to FINALLY cover these medications for those on it for weight loss, which is me (and whose insurance company isn't covering it at the moment, also me). Well, until that point happens he has not been able to give me another Ozempic sample, he could only get Mounjaro. Now I know it's a completely different medication and I've done all of my research and I know I have to switch over to it and not take them at the same time, all of that has been dealt with and I've talked to him about it. He's trying to get me through til my insurance (which is actually really good) will pay for it. But, I wanted to start this one slow just like I did with Ozempic. Could you tell me how to split the smallest Mounjaro dose of 2.5? I suppose I just need to split into 2 doses. I don't really understand the BAC water etc., but I'm willing to learn! I’m not very good at math. I have a 10mm pen I would like to put in a vial and take a .5 shot one week and then take the rest the following week. How much bac water should I add? And do I still take .5 shot after I’ve added this water? I don’t take a bigger shot since I now have mixed it with water? Is it still as potent as it was before the water was added?

You’re trying to split a 12.5mg/0.5mL dose, correct? You need one dose that is 7.5mg and one that is 5mg. A 7.5mg dose would be in 0.3mL. So if you’re using a diabetic syringe you would draw up 30 units. A 5mg dose would be 0.2mL, so in a diabetic syringe you would draw up 20 units. Hope this helps!

I inject BAC (bacteriostatic) water into the vial so it gives me more volume so I have better idea what I get.

I've been using 20 units of reconstitution solution in mine and injecting 20 units each time. Seems to be working fine!

I’m a critical care nurse. It’s a subcutaneous injection so a little bit of air will not harm you.

Don't go crazy, but a small amount of air is ok. The pen can certainly create bubbles when it injects quickly.

Zero issues as long as you store the med in the dark and in the fridge. I've been doing this for more than a year now.

@@SoCalSilverbackmaybe they have been diluting it with water as someone in here suggested. It will make the solution hypotonic. Thereby affecting proteins in this very sensitive drug

I have never added the BAC water to my vial. I can see if its compound powder but not sure why you would use it when added to the injector pen dose? Seems like it would dilute the dose. @@daniellepapillion5659

There’s a vacuum in the bottle. If you don’t inject air first you won’t be able to get the meds out in the syringe. It’s got to be balanced.

I bought mine from Amazon. They are 31 gauge 8mm. I tried to order the BD brand syringes but I live in Ga and they wont ship them here (?) so I went with another brand (BH I think) but they have worked out fine for me.

Well, for me, right now, there is a shortage of the lower dosages, so splitting it allows one to continue using it, but in the smaller dosages.

You save money. In my case, I got the 7.5 mg and I'm starting at 2.5, so one pen will last three weeks instead of just one week. Essentially, it's 1/3 the cost.
