I'm not disagreeing at all, but it may have been the dzeus fitting driver to remove the hood. The driver must have that in the car in case of a (small) fire/emergency after a run in the engine bay. An easy fix would be to get a, decent, quarter size magnet, stick it to one of the bars for the roll cage and attach said driver to said magnet. Can it still come off in the event of a crash? Possibly, but it would help and barely costs much.

35:19 Edge grommet is perfect in that situation. Keeps wires and hoses safe. Check McMaster for Heavy Duty High-Temperature Rubber Trim for that thicker carbon fiber panel. For sheet metal panels, check out their Heavy Duty Plastic Trim.

Retired EE here: yeah if wires are allowed to rub on Anything, they'll wear through, so you need wrap and/or padded clamps on all wire runs. One of the worst is letting stainless braided hose rub against Anything; it'll cut through like a slow saw due to vibration. Thread lock or Nyloc nuts on all hardware, or even safety wire on really critical stuff. *In short: build your race cars like aircraft.*

Great idea in treating the wiring like aircraft wiring. It’s not cheap but when you are going fast for a living, or at least trying to, going that last extra mile is a good idea.

@@Bill_N_ATX Yea, the wiring they showed in the video isn't great. There really shouldn't be any exposed wire without extra sheathing. There should be grommets going through panels. Actual motorsports wiring is overkill for this exact reason. Racecars will go through excessive vibration... bolts will vibrate out, solder joints will crack, wires will chafe, etc. Safety wiring the bolts is a good idea, especially for bolts that prone to backing out and are critical to the operation of the car

You do know there is Sick Week info out there for FREE???? I am able to keep up daily with what is happening at no charge and totally understand why there have not been any videos. They have had SERIOUS problems. Heard on day one they had transmission problems. Day 2 (yesterday) Lifter exploded. Welded lifters together. Got a pass to stay in it running on 7 cylinders. Got it to motion race works. Filter is full of metal. Cam has been hitting lifters every turn. Last I saw, they were going to have to hammer out the welded lifter/s. Steve Morris is making a mad dash 4 hours drive with parts and tools. Going to try to rebuild it and get to the next track for a pass. Last words from Cleet "I think we are going to be ok." They are thrashing. I highly doubt getting a video out is his priority right now. If they do not get it fixed and to the next track for a pass, they are out of the drag and drive.

Obviously, people are not aware that Sick Week info is out there for free and obviously, they do not take time to read others comments to find the info because it is being posted over and over again. Just trying to save folks the frustration they, by reading their comments, are struggling to deal with. Based on comments here, I see people do not know they can get the info for free and therefore have not seen the struggles Cleet is having this week and letting them know. As far as "you tube paying for this amazing adventure and missing out on amazing videos," what part of they are rebuilding a engine in less than a day, going to have to haul azz to the next track and get a pass in to even stay in this drag and drive and probably do not have time to edit ALL the crap they have endured the past two days let alone get a video up do you not understand??? You do know the rules are they have to make a pass at every track on specific days to even stay in this? I guess he could just say oh hell, well, we will just not even try to get this rebuilt and stay in this drag and drive because folks want a video today and would prefer me give them a sort of amazing video today instead of saying screw getting out a video today and lets get this engine rebuilt so we can give them ONE HELL of a video when we get back on track here.

Cleetus I have a great idea. Not sure if this has ever been done but a universally swappable vehicle or boat. I know any car is inherently universally swappable with enough effort. My idea is a combustion vehicle that requires very little effort swapping between any style of engine. A car or boat purpose built with a large enough: -engine bay -a robust cooling system -universal ECU (if carbureted non issue) -an easy engine mounting system. The gimmick would being able to swap between a VR6 and LSX with little to no issues. With a car you run into to issues with transmission pairings but with a boat’s direct drive system I believe is be a better option. Building a completely custom jet boat much like kickstands 3k boat from the challenge. The engine(s) is center the piece and the bay is catered to putting any sort of monstrosity as it power unit. Would take a lot of fabrication but nothing y’all can’t handle. Hella ya brother.

Kill Switch looked like a 5 minute repair with a soldering iron and some small rosin core solder. Just scrape away the black solder mask from the burnt copper trace, melt a little solder on each end, lay a thin wire across it, solder over it. Then use some clear fingernail polish over it to protect it until a new unit arrives. Just be sure to not bridge over to an adjacent copper trace.

I’m glad you posted. I’m about to lose it. I don’t have the right tools to cut this ptfe fuel line and I’m having the worst time doing this crap. I don’t have an angle grinder. I have never made fuel lines before so I didn’t expect to be this much work. They ptfe ward more difficult but I didn’t expect this. It’s alright. In less than 2 weeks I’ll have it all finished and blower installed

What this guy said ^ A good swing of a decent axe will make a nice clean cut of almost anything. I often use it for 4/0 gauge wire as easier and quicker than cutters.

A harness being allowed to burn and prevent shutdown with an open circuit seems the exact opposite of failsafe. Just saying as an electrical engineering geek who also happens to be a car guy and in the field of 12v tech just about my entire life. But damn, these cars are beasts so keep doing what you do and learn from every mistake.

The one thing I respect more than anything about Garrett is his willingness to share his mistakes and downfalls not just the positive... You don't see any of the big racing teams showing anything everything is tight-lipped but I promise you they have the same kind of problems the same kind of parts failures or they are rebuilding way more frequently than you would ever think... Props for being so transparent

Can you ask Mr Sam if he knew an older gentleman from Kentucky who built and raced hotrods his whole life. Took tons of cars to shows in Florida etc for years. My grandfather his name is Robert "Bobby" Dunn from Midway, Ky. He passed away during covid unfortunately but seeing Mr Sam reminds me of him and gives me joy.

Re: Zak, "Use Loctite on everything." I'd suggest nylocks. They can be reused up to 20 x's, don't have to remember, prep clean or heat reactive, (will melt at temps above Loctite release temp: ruins them for re-use, but no failure). Only downsides are cost & additional weight, (~50% heavier than normal nut).

The info was intended to target relatives of current customers. They have also have been accused of using unlicensed therapists.
