The turbo turbulation would probably be a little different if the turbos were actually sucking air. The air was being compressed into static impellers
@9HighFlyer9

Would that create enough low pressure to significantly lower downforce on the front? If so, would putting the intakes near the ground create downforce?
@frotobaggins7169
@frotobaggins7169 3 жыл бұрын
@@9HighFlyer9 I think his point was what effect the moving air would have with moving turbos. I doubt it would effect lift at all. most of the front end lift is likely coming from the front bumper as the air coming off the air dam tries to go over the bumper. you can see this in the smoke test. That and just the air going under the air dam and through the radiator. the turbulence is just drag.

That's a cute wind tunnel. We have a full size at work with dyno rolls and turn table (so you can got at any angle to the wind). Its powered by some old WWII bomber propellers! It looks impressive but I think it basically tops out at 150 km/h so not much faster than this one. It doesn't get used nearly enough these days because you can generally do CFD pretty reliably at those kind of speeds.

The wind tunnel got me curious, a stock, base model C6 has a 0.29 coefficient of drag(vs 0.57 for mullet). Might as well use all that time the GM engineers spent in the wind tunnel with the C6 to your advantage. I know its not the Cleetus way, but the current setup is leaving time on the table IMO.

7:41 0.74 is crazy. A stock C5 corvette has a CD of 0.32 and most modern cars are under 0.30 10:12 if the front is producing lift at speed that is bad. It compromises the steering. You need to put a splitter on the front of the car and do something about the low pressure area behind the cab. Also mounting the Turbos lower and not having holes in the hood would help. 11:50 Nice to see Kevin paying attention 16:13 If somebody really wants to screw with A2 Wind Tunnels their wifi passwrod is right at this time code.

That shows why promods have the turbos mounted the way they do. Right between where the air gets sucked into the cowl and exits through the wheel arches. I bet it would improve ait's as well. Interesting. 👍

James' Nova would hugely benefit from a front air dam and a rear drag spoiler. The air actually cuts down off the roof quite aggressively, so it would be quite functional. Also changing the hood and getting rid of the cowl would really help reduce the front lift. Boy I'd love to get my car in there.

Remember the turbo is a compressor, so it pulls it’s own air in boost more than when it’s just sat. There would be an airflow change with the turbos spooled.

"Aerodynamics are for people who can't build engines." - Enzo Ferrari

That theory guaranteed Ferrari DIDN'T win many championships. It's why John Cooper, Ken Tyrrell, Colin Chapman, Jack Brabham, John Surtees, Bruce McLaren and many others made his cars look very amateur. Enzo's reponse: label them garagiste and apply AERO. To the extent of running flat 12 instead of v12 for lower frontal area and air flow over the rear of the car.

@@Not_A_Cat The flat 12 was more for lower center of gravity than frontal area. It was also why Ferrari couldn't compete with ground effect cars until they went back to a V. A flat 12 takes up all the space you need for tunnels.
