Of the 5 and DLC cases, I'd have to agree with you. The theme (and possibly the best theme of the game) was great, The connection to AA4 how it finally gave meaning to "X" thing for Trucy, The unique murder plan and how it fits into his character, And the Breakdown animation wrapped up to be a compelling case for me. The other case ending I enjoyed was Case 4's (while a filler to give Athena a case), had an interesting murder weapon (Still laughing over that) and I predicted the fake balloons from awhile ago. It was short though and I wished that case was filled out more but unfortunately, it stayed a filler case.

Even so, it must also be said that the Gramareye were not exemplary people.

I'll expand the last sentence. In his breakdown, Retinz was showing all members of main Troupe Gramarye in a specific order. The order of assholery, that is: - Thalassa was the victim of the actions performed by her associates; her own family. She wasn't saint either, as she was hiding the truth from Apollo and Trucy (still being good at heart) - Valant tried to frame Zak into killing Magnifi, despite knowing it was in fact suicide (he tried to kill Magnifi though, but in fact could not; he simply couldn't do it). Despite his arrogance and pride, he simply wanted to be recognized as talented magican, as others of Troupe Gramarye (constant failures caused his low self-esteem). Also he turned himself in willingly after "all cards were shown" and was supporting Trucy as her non-biological uncle - Zak and his poker tricks, despite truly showing one's real intentions, were one of the causes of long-reaching "Dark Age of the Law". In addition to that, after his case didn't go well, he disappeared just like that, abandoned his 8-9 years old daughter (only to return "last minute" to give her the rights to Gramarye magic and name) and caused the Gramarye name to go into almost complete extinction. To protect his name, he tried to cheat to "expose" Phoenix, in which he failed too and ultimately died by the hands of Kristoph. - Magnifi was a complete degenerate. In spite of being phenomenal magician, he was much worse person. He hid Thalassa away after the unfortunate incident with the pistols, telling her husband and her friend (who loved her) that she died. Then he committed suicide after giving the rights to magic to Zak (even arranging the scene a bit), which began the avalanche known as Dark Age of the Law. Moreover, Magnifi never treated neither Zak, Valant nor Roger good because of thier loyalty or well behavior (which is hard to believe since all of them were at least partially assholes), but because of thier talents and abilities - treating them more like a puppets and tools, not like humans. - Roger was the worst (or the same as Magnifi). He was incredibly talented, yet incredibly stubborn. Being the most egotistical of the mentioned five, he was holding the grudge against Gramarye for 12 years, instead of "going with the flow", as he had a great future ahead. Instead, he would rather to waste it on almost pointless revenge. He killed Manov, who - just like him in his prime - not only had talents and great future ahead, but was the biggest fan of him; of Mr. Reus. Additionally, he tried to frame Trucy - the only heir of Gramarye magic - in order to eliminate Gramarye name once and for all. All of this... because of being expelled from one group of magicians, while there was many more with great potential to join, or simply going solo would be more beneficial. Also... Quite fun dependence. The one from Troupe Gramarye being more talented magician, the bigger asshole they were (and the more I had to write about them)

It was symbolic. It wasn't necessary to use it, but it was done to give Mrs. Inmee the chance to give her late husband her last goodbye. As a bonus, it served to set up a key part of Case 5

I personally prefer the original 3 games and the investigations games's breakdowns. But these are still really good.
