Interestingly, Sonya's quote isn't really that much better. Her "mourning" quote is her blatantly saying "Either you accept loss, of you can't go on". She on the other hand doesn't say it as coldly as Deen does but she pretty much outright tells the rest of the army that their only real choice is to move on despite their loss.

I think these two quotes work really well. Mathilda, having lost someone she isn't all too close with, gives this cold response as a way to remind herself and others on finishing the war. However, losing her husband (or future husband?) is too much for her, and she reveals her more humanistic reaction to death.

Actually if you've done literally any of their battle convo's, you will see the two are pretty much all over each other. Despite being normally rather reticent, their supports are classic hammy.

He then took a brave sword with him on a search for revenge. He wants nothing out of life but that, so he comes off as unfeeling.

As tragic as this detail is, I love it- It's perfect for capitalizing on the permadeath situation these characters are in. Though it becomes a little funny if you're playing on Casual mode, since they still play on there.

it goes to show this is the advantage of not having everyone be able to marry everyone in a fire emblem. since most people in gaiden already have friends or loved ones . i know they have had unique lines in some cases but most cases said character retreats with a major injury allowing them not to fight (eg Ike telling titania to retreat when she was defeated in combat in POR) . the voice acting only enhances this too

But because we know the pain is precisely why we feel affected as well when others around us lose someone they love. That comment wasn't about actually feeling the same but being as caring towards others as we are with our own selves in extreme circumstances like that. Just want to precise, just because someone reacts like Mathilda doesn't mean they're a terrible person. We all deal with death differently, and I imagine even more so in a context of war. But she does underestimate the pain of actual loss in the end and acts uncaring to others as a result. As said, I think that's actually good writing. Either way you're right, maybe hypocrisy wasn't the best word to describe it.

When I played through on Casual and someone went down in combat, I always waited to save until I could check to make sure they were still alive, just in case. The voice acting always threw me off.

Genealogy had characters mention their lovers in their death quote. But only certain characters got that.

Samus The Goddess Patty's death quote still makes me laugh as she always calls her brother (iirc) an idiot. Either it was her brother or her lover... I forget.

If I recall, Tiltyu had a similar issue; she calls whoever she fell in love with an Idiot. The thing is, Due to a bug, she can call literally anyone in the army an idiot. I think she might've said Sigurd once.

The voice acting really made a big difference in this game for me. Many of my favorite moments, like meeting Tatiana, Valbar's final battle quote, and Berkut's LIES are only memorable BECAUSE of the voice acting. I hope it's here to stay. And I know it's going to really suck trying to replay older games in the series purely because of the absence of the voice acting.

Yeah Saber said he had a younger sister who looked a little like Celica. Matter of fact, Saber could've left the group as soon as they reached Mila's Temple, but stuck around regardless, he's grown attached to Celica.

The missing dialog for casual would be they get up and say "gotem! :P" and then they get wacked in the head.....

Well, I kept on trying without. I max leveled my characters trying the best without shards and anything else, but at the end every loss was from Alm or Celica dying from one thing or another. The only ones that could do much were the dread fighters and they eventually got overwhelmed. Eventually I did it, but I had to pretty much avoid even getting seen at the lower levels. Big boss at the end ain't too tough.
