I like how this movie has completely different plots throughout it. Starts with a war, becomes apocalyptic, has time travel, then they go to the surface and then become superheroes. it’s insane but fun

Back when this was coming out, the advertising was an awful lie because from the TV ads, to the DVD box, to EVEN THE MENU, I thought this movie was primarily going to be a 3D Superhero adventure. I spent the whole movie waiting for that part to come and was left with it feeling mid. Now that I’ve watched your reactions and realized how funny this movie really was, I oughta go back and give it another shot.

That awkward middle film between the universally loved original and near universally hated threequel (which I still haven't seen). Misleading marketing kinda played a part as the live action sequence ended up being shorter compared to what was believed based on the trailers. Finally gave it a watch shortly after Hillemburg's passing and it was definitely much better than expected.

When I first saw the trailer, I kinda sorta knew that SpongeBob would make a CGI movie. And to the movie’s credit, I feels like it stays quite true to the original series.

Hooray, thank you very much! I am overjoyed to hear you say that. I knew it would not be long for you to watch Sponge Out of Water after The Spongebob Squarepants Movie. I totes thought it was much better at executing the ideas of Pressure and Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy V than those episodes did, with the longer runtime of a movie to do more with both those storylines at once. I made a very good video about this where I was pleased to see all four teams of Sponge Out of Water animators be credited (when Space Jam: A New Legacy selectively forgot some of their animators), and an even shorter video where I mentioned that the Spongebob Squarepants characters staying in their show's usual 2D underwater locations for most of the film sets it apart from other CG live-action hybrids like Alvin and the Chipmunks and The Smurfs. Because the Spongebob characters never go above water in this film before they know where to find the missing formula, they do not need another live-action human companion like Dave or Grace and Patrick Winslow since they do not waste loads of extra time above water messing around before they find Burger Beard. I am very positive that Thomas F. Wilson must be very proud of himself to have acted in Back to the Future Part 3, The Spongebob Squarepants Movie and Sponge Out of Water, because all of them had such wide appeal to become the 6th highest grossing film in their year of premiere.

I’m so happy that this movie has grown to see the light of being known “excellent” in every way cause most movies for some reason must have the term *worst* or *best* movie of all time even tho you should just appreciate a movie how it is instead of comparing it to first movie and it’s sequel (As long it doesn’t assassinate any characters, plot, world buildings, and themes or messages and just provide nostalgia or references to something it’s base of then the movie is fine or good.) and what it try to represent and tell with it’s story, of course this movie would or wouldn’t live up to the first SpongeBob movie BUT this feels like a great introduction of SpongeBob as a character and the series of what it is while the first SpongeBob movie feels like a final of the series and I appreciate both of them. (And yes the third one is agree to be the worst of the bunch and even the baddest SpongeBob movie of the trilogy and franchise. Why you may asks, Because cause is copying the first movie plot of road trip, more Celebrity’s guest than usual, even the villain is another royal king and he’s not entirely bad but he’s not interesting and entertaining at all compare to the last SpongeBob villains and that one episode of Gary leaves SpongeBob to find a new owner but this one feels least emotional and force completely different then how that SpongeBob episode had really touch my heart and also being a tie in reckon for a series that is set it the past, that is just trying to trick you into watching it cause Nickelodeon has nothing much do with the SpongeBob franchise. The reason why they probably didn’t do the old superhero ideas from the show, like the League of Super Acquaintances, was because the actor for Mermaid Man, Ernest Borgnine, had passed away and this movie was in memory for him. They mention it at the end of the credits.
