The German Maus heavy tank is one of the most famous vehicles in War Thunder ground battles, but its sibling the E-100 is arguably even more legendary. It has been offered a few times as a tournament reward, and I don't own it, but Gaijin was kind enough to give me a test drive.

Fun fact about the E-100: if it ever mounted the maus's turret the suspension would collapse since it couldn't handle the excess weight compared with the krupp turret

@Ellie Williams it was originally going to have the Maus turret but they found out it would have done the aforementioned suspension braking so they made a new lighter turret which Is the more historical one and the wot ones

@@BarrosGaming There were two designs. The First one is the so called Maus Turret, and the Second one is the improved Maus Turret which is significantly smaller, lighter and has mostly the same effective frontal armor.

I recently fought one of the most annoying people in an E-100, I was in the Strv-103A and he was all bushed up, he broke my gun with his 128 and my track with his 75, and the his squad mate (also covered in bushes) flanked me and started shooting me in the sides with a T-55, I managed to repair fast enough to kill the T-55 and start getting on target on the E-100, until he shot out my barrel again. It is worth noting that he was sitting on the B point on Stalingrad, and that we lost the game because of him.

I recently had a war thunder match, there was one E-100 that just cleaned us out. Compared to the Maus, the people who own the E-100 are always super skilled so it's a lot harder to beat.

What? I always get murdered by Maus's. They're just so armored that its actually hard, because they usually get downtiered to 6.7-7.0-7.3. And when i use it, i get like 9 kills. Both tank players are good!

I think the main reason why Gaijin went with the Maus turret for the E-100, since (l think it was in a documentary about the Maus). The germans did have a E-100 hull and used a wooden Maus turret on it. So when the Russians found them (Maus and E-100), both had same turret. Even though we got blueprints with different turret for it.

@@xamnoir yeah but the e100 hull ended up getting scraped supposedly it’s in a junk yard somewhere rusting away but no one really knows. There is a MAUS in Russia, so the Russians found two MAUS tanks one was destroyed by the Germans and the hull couldn’t be used and the other one was severely damaged so the put the turret of Maus 1 on maus 2 scrapped the rest.

I have held for a long time that playing a tank whose armor works, like the Maus, Jumbo, or Black Prince, makes enemy players just go straight stupid mode. They forget how to aim, where to shoot, positioning, they just want you dead so bad they look stupid and also kill themselves on you. It's great fun.

I agree. The amount of times that I've practically rerouted entire enemy teams JUST to come and kill me because my vehicle happens to be armoured as Hell is considerable. When people's shells start bouncing, they start getting tilted. Try playing a hull-down Chieftain Mk.10, sometime. EVERYTHING bounces. You'll have the entire enemy team dumping on you within half a match.

@@CaptainScorchMane I like to use the Porsche Tiger, the 5.7 one. People aim dead center on the hull not realizing it has 200mm or armor. They also forget about the weak spot that is the hull corners, or the fact the turret face has like, 21 extra mm of armor compared to the regular tiger. The whole "reverse top speed same as drive top speed" throws people through a loop too. No mr 76 Jumbo, your solid shot wont punch through my hull, try again next life. No mr pershing, i angled my hull slightly and i angled a bit. try again next time. Easily my fav tank. just drive straight towards the enemy.

Play the silly RBT-5 which gets 250kg tank “torpedoes” at 1.3, which can be incredibly strong against open-tops which it can overpressure to about 40m (of which you will see lots at low tier)

I'm still amazed how the designers for the E-100 or originally the tigermaus had the audacity to slap on the tiger IIs transmission on it, at least with the maus you have parts and mechanisms specially built for such a weight even if the maus was heavier and not add an already overloaded transmission onto a vehicle twice its weight from its originally intended vehicle.

Repair costs honestly make this game so much less fun and forces you to play the same tanks the entire time. Especially when SL rewards aren’t adjusted to repair costs or even anywhere near fair. Russian top tier is 1.6 base reward, whereas UK top tier is 1.3-1.0 despite having higher repair costs across the board. And lord forbid you play israel, merkava mk4d has a .8 base reward and costs like 8k to repair. The game requires you to be spookston or better if you want any chance at not having to pay money or go back to lower BRs just to have enough for repairs.

Mine is VT1-2. I was going to grind to the E100 but they announced it without the original 150mm gun, so i gave up. The only thing i miss was the 30mm he 162

Fun fact: The turret intended for the E-100 was a variant of the turret originally developed for the Maus that was to be used instead of the original curved front turret for the remaining hulls and these tanks were to be designated “Maus II”. The E-100 version was to have the turret side armor substantially reduced to make it light enough for the E-100 hull to mount. Otherwise they were identical.

For the Maus i had a terrible time playing until I started using the 75mm it’s perfect. It gets a 100mm pen heat shell that’s perfect for tracking and taking barrels. It really helps in a pinch when your main gun is out or reloading. It is HIGHLY recommended to use it.

Idk about this thing but each Maus was supposed to have a special recovery vehicle paired with it just like they made special train cars for them (I think it was the only time when germans actually prepared logistics before building a weapon system and sending it on its merry way)

you should try playing the OF-40s or the ikv-91 / 91-105 also, i still don't get why noone uses the dozer blade. I /always/ deploy the dozer blade and make myself a bit of cover whenever I find somewhere to camp if I have one, and it's so goddamn useful.

Great video! Next time you play on a vehicle with the 128mm, make sure you take a couple of HE rounds as they are extremely useful. You can easily take out T-10s IS-4s by shooting the cupola or roof and objects 122s by shooting the turret (which will overpressure the 30mm thick hull roof).

@@AevisPrime I didnt know he made a video about it 2 years ago. You do realize so much in the game changed and it was moved up to 4.7 right? I wanted to see him give it a go again because I absolutely despise it. He talked about how good the hull armor is, which is great if you’re fighting noobs who don’t know how to play the game. Anyone with experience will always go for turret shots because the face is flat and only 80mm effective. Not that it matters anyway because since the video Russians have magical performance on all their capped shells so they just lol pen the hull at any angle. the video was also before the hell that is volumetric so it’s an absolute gamble If your shot decides to pen KVs/T34s turrets.

step 1: get a tier 6 vehicle step 2: accumulate 200k points/2 days with a minimum of 15k/match step 3: after this you will get access to a crafting menu you know the rest

My only distinct memory of facing an E-100 was when I was a terrified near-stock M47 Patton II without HEATFS and solely armed with M82, and in my pants-shitting fear of coming face-to-face with one, managed to aim for the 128mm barrel, but somehow get the shot straight down the gun tube as the guy was aiming at me (back when that was a more common thing to manage), and the blast from the explosive filler going off in his gun breech was enough to kill his last replacement gunner. Suffice to say that remains permanently etched in my War Thunder memories lmao - E-100s are certainly a rare thing to have fights against these days

I wish I had at least one of the cool rare tanks, I literally don’t have any and it sucks. I don’t have maus, elefant, tiger 105, is 7, 279, etc. only event vehicle I have is the animal tiger. I’ve missed all of the events and battle passes that had vehicles I actually want and it pisses me off to another level. I’m on console too, so I can’t even get anything from the marketplace. Great video though, glad I could find footage of this tank from a creator I enjoy

If you are questioning the engine it's supposed to be a king tigers with a modification that I forgotten. Also the transmission as-well to keep a streamlined aspect.
