I honestly feel so bad for Andrew and Amber with being criticized for not being "asian enough". I myself am a mixed afro-latina, and I don't know how to speak Spanish. All my life I have been criticized and poked at just for not fully representing my culture. I grew up in Kansas, so there isn't a lot of Hispanic culture to be surrounded by and I know that when people ridicule me for not being "Hispanic enough" it feels as if I'll never be able to fully claim my Hispanic side. I don't mean to make a big thing out of this, it's just something I wanted to mention. But regardless of the situation, I hope the rest of yalls school year goes a bit better and I love yall 💗 💕 💓

I completely understand how y'all feel. I wasn't able to go out of state for college, but even being 4 hours away from home sucks ass because my roommate and I aren't able to go home that often due to our majors and the workload we have. I think it also doesn't help that I turned 18 on my first day of classes, and by that time my family was no longer in town to celebrate. I'm hoping it gets better for Andrew as he progresses through college, but he should also know that there is no shame in missing home nor is there any shame in transferring if he doesn't like it there.

totally understand how you feel. i grew up in a mixed home too and sometimes i feel regretful and ashamed that i don’t speak japanese or didn’t know much about japanese culture. the good news is that it’s never truly too late :’) i’ve been taking japanese classes again and being more in touch with that side through food and music. everyone goes at their own speed and can enjoy their culture to how they want and no one should tell you how “korean” you are. you’re always going to be half-korean anyways 💗

Totally understand what andrew said about college. In my first year of college i hated the environment i was in. I was also a business major. Totally same with what Amber said like everyone is like networking trying to be the one on top. I even was at the point of asking my mom to help me go to another college. We scouted schools and all that. But i was still in the middle of my semester and she said to try and finish it first to things would go smoothly when i transfered. I toughed it up but i was still going to school so deppressed and nothing was going in my brain. But during that time i also got to meet genuine people who until now are still my good friends. They made going to college easier and bu the time the semester was finish I decided to not transfer anymore because i was feeling better and was now surrounded by nice and kind people. I thing surrounding yourself with people like that who could help you go thru college life easier and help you are the most important in college. Becasue college can get toxic so fast. So i hope that andrew finds people who doesnt give him sht and appreciate him as he is. Also hope he can be surrounded by genuine people and not those fake ones. Aaaand i hope you be confident in what you decide in your college and or life journey!! ❤

i really relate whenever amber and andrew talk about how they dont feel "asian enough." I'm filipino-american and I grew up in a predominately white area, so I understand this mentality completely. I even struggled with joining the Asian coalition at my university because I felt I would be judged for not being as connected to my culture as others. I'm a senior now, and I wish I didn't feel this way. Don't get me wrong I love being filipino, I just never fully embraced it due to my environment and racial biases that people had against me while growing up.

nah it’s definitely college culture. i would say it’s exacerbated by how people in california network, but even going to school in the south on the east coast, some people only want to be your friend to get something from you. it’s hard to find the people that are genuine, especially at a large school.

Recently I feel like a don’t have any truly friend because I’m introverted and all my friends (i don’t even know if I should keep calling them friends) are extroverted, they never want to do stuff like this with me bc they found it bored or childish, they only want to get drunk and go to crazy parties 💀 so I really would love have friends like you guys, you always do things that would make me have lots of fun, especially bc my love lenguage it’s quality time (also giving gifts hehe) I actually got excited through the video lol. As a CHamoru (Pacific islander) - Mexican whose dad was in the military, I had to move to a lot of places where I hadn't had the opportunity to connect with my own heritage and was conditioned by my environment to be embarrassed to embrace them. Now that I'm finally back, living on my home island after being away my whole life, I felt a bit lost and out of place on an island that was supposed to be my home. Basically, I'm still trying to find myself while making time to connect with the two cultures I'm a part of. I'm devastated but somewhat glad knowing that I'm not alone in this. I'm hoping for the best for y'all as you connect with your own culture!!

I don’t know but I felt the same when I moved to Texas about people being fake nice and everything. I was born and raised in CA and real Angelenos or at least in SoCal natives are nice and real people. The thing is people move to California and move in areas when it has become so populated with transplants and people in the entertainment industry so they are the ones giving out that type of vibes you and Andrew are describing. I heard in NorCal is better and different than in SoCal if you ever wanted to move there. I moved to the Inland Empire from LA and I had a different experience and I didn’t have a bad experience growing up there. Not sure it’s because I grew up in a huge Hispanic community. However, you guys faced criticism for not being Asian enough and unfortunately that’s going to be where ever you go. I grew in SoCal with Spanish speaking parents and I grew up in a strong latino/Hispanic community and I still felt I was not enough for my culture and my community because my Spanish is not as fluent as everyone else there. It doesn’t mean I hate my culture, I just suck at keeping up with Spanish while being in school and somehow I leaned more towards English. Now that I am older, I wish I did try harder at being more fluent. Anyways, I’m getting off topic lol California is not the same as when I moved out of there. When I came back to visit, it did changed and I think that’s something about California that is always changing. I just hate that transplants who move to Cali are the ones making people feel that way. Los Angeles and SoCal has a lot of culture and history good and ugly. You have to live in the better parts of California to have a good experience with real people, not fake people. Unfortunately, you will working in the entertainment industry, you will still see fake people everywhere and the vibes aren’t what you wanting to experience. I would honestly go back home or live nearby like Ashley or live in a place where you see yourself comfortable, happy and you have researched places you think you will have fun in your 20s. Luckily, you are a KZfaqr and you can live wherever bro.

i absolutely love sit down raw (?) talk vids!! after being such an avid viewer of you guys, and quite literally watching you guys change + grow up while i am literally growing and changing too always boggles my mind to the MAXIMUS! it feels like i rlly am just a long distance internet friend rather than just a fan/viewer!!! i have so many things i want to say to you guys, but specifically to andrew im just gonna go on an unnecessary spiel: i really hope that he comes to enjoy california and finds the right people!! as someone from LA, hearing about how andrew’s first (negative) impressions on socal and how it probably is validating that stereotypical cali stereotype is so lame!!! i promise we r all not like that and its probably just the people in OC.. 😕 (kidding 😀) things get better over time, both my friends who dorm have gone through that rough spot of regret/what ifs/feeling out of place, and for them things just got better over time once they really took it in and embraced it! for me, i was in a super crazy time in my life where i felt like everything was wrong and seeing my friends in other places made me regret my choices, but i ended up just doing what was right for me and even though it was so so so hard, i’m glad i made the decision i did in the end. idk what im trying to say with this but everyone’s experience is so different and i hope that he isn’t comparing himself to others or going through that depressing ‘what ifs’ headspace!! i really really hope that everything just slips into place soon.. and if it doesn’t: some things aren’t meant to be and das okay! whatever he chooses to do, we r supporting him! 😎 i’m so happy u guys have each other (and grateful we r getting content :P), and i wish you both the best for the semester :P will be cheerin y’all on and if u guys r ever in LA i hope we cross paths :D

Like Andrew, I’m 18 and just moved to LA for college, and it’s so relieving to hear that other out of state kids don’t like CA 😭😭 I’ve also only been here for a month but I’m definitely moving away when I graduate.
