Jennifer McMahon is very underrated. She always blends so many genres so seamlessly. While the endings don't always land, the ride is always worth it.

You need to definitely read September House I couldn’t put it down it will grip you from the very beginning! An excellent horror book for the spooky holiday! #1 horror mystery thriller I read thus far this year! 🧟‍♀️

I recommend “Summer of Night” by Dan Simmons. It’s about a group of kids fighting evil forces in their small midwestern town during summer break. The evil is rooted in their old Gothic style school house. Great book for Halloween! I love “The Passage”. The whole trilogy is terrific.

I just read “The Only One Left” and loved it! I hope you enjoy it too! I also recommend Isabel Canas’s books “La Hacienda” and “Vampires of El Norte”. I found her through BOTM and both books were amazing, I loved La Hacienda a bit more though, was Mexican gothic haunted house vibes.Vampires is still Mexican gothic genre but more forbidden romance/thriller. I’m currently reading “The Stand” by Mr. King and finishing up “Hallowe’en Party” by Agatha Christie, which in my opinion, is not one of her best books. Was disappointed and expected more. Going back to Stephen King though, I’d recommend his son Joe Hill’s books too. Especially NOS4A2, which is vampires. I’ll leave it at that lol I have a huge spooky/fun Halloween book TBR for the next month, doubt I’ll get to them all but I like pulling out a bunch to work on and then save and add more over the next Halloween seasons. Happy Hauntings to you, and really look into Isabel’s books. I love her and if she does a third and I love it, she will be a spooky author auto buy for me.

The Library at Mount Char is incredible! I think you’re reading that soon right? Empire of the Vampire is great! Over My Dead Body by Sweeney Boo is a good graphic novel. Seize the Night New Tales of Vampiric Horror is a book of short stories by various authors, stories are a mixed bag, but overall I enjoyed it. I’m reading Night Film by Marisha Pesel this season. I just finished Silver Nitrate by Silvia Moreno Garcia and it was just fine.

Duuuuude Head Full of Ghosts! Definitely my favorite recent horror read. I hope you love it as much as I did! Not sure if you’re interested in horror comics, but I just read The Nice House on the Lake, and I definitely recommend it. A man invites friend groups from different points in his life to a weekend away. As these different groups of friends come together, they come to realize something is off about this vacation. “Let’s play a game. How do you think the world ends?”

Favourite horror book I have to give to the first Stephen King book I have read. The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon! I read it like 20 years ago but it was so darn good! Current favourite horror book I give to "Hex" by Thomas Olde Heuvelt. Read it this month and loved it. The idea is so cool and I would love it if they made a movie out of it! Looking forward to his upcoming release "November"

The Saturday Night Ghost Club is wonderful, I just listened to it last week and I highly recommend. The September House is also fantastic! The slow dread that builds and the way the hauntings play out are perfect for creepy and unsettling but not terrifying. You have some great books to choose from.

I think you’re going to love The Weight of Blood. 5/5 for me! also, I am currently reading Bunny and also loving it. I think you would really like it too… but I haven’t read her other books… the one on your TBR sounds great as well.

I think you’ll enjoy Confessions. It gets a bit bonkers and is a fun ride. The Saturday Night Ghost Club is very light on the horror elements and more literary leaning. My favorite horror novels are probably My Best Friend’s Exorcism, You Let Me In (a pretty dark vampire novel that is also titled Let the Right One In), Devolution which is about a Sasquatch massacre, and Into the Drowning Deep which is about ferocious mermaids. One of the only horror novels that has ever scared me is I Remember You by Yrsa Sigurdardottir. It’s a wintry Icelandic ghost story that freaked me out. 😂

Yeahhhh can't wait for you to read The Winter People, I read it as my first Jennifer McMahon and she became an auto-buy author for me after loving it so so much. I hope you have a great time with it! You have a fun TBR lined up, can't wait to hear your thoughts at the end of the month!

The September House sounds so good. I read You're Not Supposed to Die Tonight over the summer, and it's so much fun! And it does have some very meta elements to it that I thought really heightened the tension. My favorite horror novel is a tie between The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones and Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant. Those both have some scenes that have just lingered in my memory for years

This book is not a new release, but I really enjoyed From Below by Darcy Coates. It was creepy and atmospheric. Two other books I also enjoyed recently was the Vampires of El Norte and Dracul. The later two more gothic vibes.

I am not a huge horror reader but I recently read Certain Dark Things and liked it a lot, a really cool urban fantasy take on vampires and vampire lore. And then even more recently I real The Hacienda and Vampires of El Norte by Isabel Canas. I thought the Hacienda was ok but not my favorite but I was really surprised that I like Vampires of El Norte so much, maybe because of the romance, historical setting and again a really cool take on Vampires (they are not good, the romance is not with a vampire) 😅 Maybe you will enjoy them too, as you said you like vampires. I also read Darling Rose Gold and I enjoyed it a lot, it is a thriller, not horror, and more of a domestic thriller, but the characters were so twisted and it had the dual time line, I had a lot of fun.

Horror genre is something that has yet to blow me away. I've read horror books and they were clear (in terms of the narrative) but they don't scare me. I was able to read It and Carrie during night/in the dark. 🌃 The Long Walk is the only Stephen King book that blew me away so far. Thank you for sharing Carissa Orlando.

My favorite horror book is Red Dragon by Thomas Harris - it's the prequel (I believe, or it's just where we're introduced to Dr. Hannibal Lecter) to The Silence of the Lambs. I read it well over 20 years ago and I don't remember much from it other than it scared the crap out of me! You've got a good list here! Thank you for another great video.

What are some of the strangest horror books I've read? Feels more like long summer read, but Stephen King's Duma Key & Lisey's Story. Two slowburn reads 📚. For "proper" horror, Bram Stoker's Dracula Barnes & Noble Edition. The Passage yes! Justin Cronin! and The Strain trilogy by GDT Guillermo Del Toro & Chuck Hogan! And Mike Mignola's Hellboy graphic novel anthologies! 🎉 📖 📚! A strange older book is The Great and Secret Show by Clive Barker, a garage find! And for King, his short story collection, Everything's Eventual! And Neil Gaiman's American Gods! And King's Desperation (a summer horror read).
