Yeah if youre reading this i'll recommend tabing p.81 Chapter 8. Because thats where the big paragraph of info dump on what cards does what is (since theres no page at the end of the book to refere to)

They may tank in the algorithm but I believe that one day some soul will be searching for a review and the search engine that is KZfaq will provide this for them 😁😁

I felt the exact same about wanting a guide at the back of the book about the cards. I thought that it was actually a huge detriment to the book overall to not include that.

While i liked the idea of the poems, the ryhming felt a little cheesy. I also thought using the swear word 'Tree' and then modern cuss words. It just feels immersion breaking to me. I agree, the magic system is great, super fascinating.

The book definitely read like YA. Both the writing and the plot were mediocre. The “excerpts” at the beginning of each chapter (from the ancient book everyone was always quoting) were amateurish. Prose or rhyme: pick one for heaven’s sake. Better yet, pick neither. Also, one huge pet peeve in what passes for modern writing: 4 hyphens and 6 commas do not a sentence make. It only makes for run on sentences and bad grammar, but this one’s on the editor, too.

I want to finish reading it but i don't know if i can id it keeps on dragging. A quick start to the book bur then the redt is slow ans dragging. Not enough suspens and build up-to the plot.

Im thinking about DNR at about 3 chapters. The rhyming is forced, there are already contradictions in the narrative (example: saying people and animals are attracted to Ioune then a page later saying no one notices her). Elsbeth constantly makes references to nightmares in her internal dialogue (like, we get it...) and it's strange that, for eleven years, she wastes time calling it "THE NIGHTMARE" instead of giving it its own name? "Umbra", "Shade", even "Shadow" would make it easier to tolerate, at least for me. Only good thing is that the magic in her justifies the super-strength when she gets ambushed by random thugs in chapter two. I'm tired of women in fiction being able to fight off grown men without a problem or some kind of augmentation besides being "fantasy heroine." I want to like this but it reads like a first draft to me.

It didn't feel that way to me? I think nettle and bone has a bit more snark to it?

@@DeadGoodBookReviews that's disappointing, I need more nettle and boneish stuff. Thanks!
