I MADE A SPOON CARVING VISE TODAY TO HELP HOLD A SPOON CARVING SO BOTH HANDS CAN BE USED ..FILL FREE TO HELP NAME THIS NEW TOOL FOR SPOON CARVING..

Swedish Spoon Lap Vise is where you out your strap through holes on a piece of wood 1 x 6 x 12 or whatever suits your needs between one knee and your heel you pull the spoon to the plank. Because the plank shields your leg you can use a gouge/mallet to make your bowl as well as draw while mobile. Alternatively you can put it in your lap and use the rope around both feet.

Looking around for a Swedish Lap Vise style alternative to a full shaving horse, but for shaping legs etc. with a draw knife. The key seems to be having a triangulated support; for the traditional version it is the plank for one side of a triangle and then the feet for the last point, and for your version it is a 3-point leg-heel-chest. For my application, I also need resistance against pulling everything towards my body as I pull the drawknife.

great looking tool sir, i have used something similar, just a lap sized square of wood 1in thick with 2 or 4 holes in the centrer a few inchs apart with cord looped through and down to your feet, yours has a certain " crossbow " vibe going on, perhaps you could call it a " spoon balista " lol.

Great idea.. Spoons are so hard to hold sometimes, and if you are holding it in your hand,it is a little too close to the knife blade sometimes. Thank you for the video, Billie Joe

If you have the string around your heel it raises and lowers with your leg, therefore you can't increase/decrease tension. With it around your front foot you can use the ankle leverage to increase or decrease tension. Just an idea to improve your great design. Plans??

I think you need to move your stop block piece closer to the leather strap a couple inches to stop all that flopping around of the spoon.
