Anyone can play the basic spoonful riff......which is great anyway, don't get me wrong! But......you are the only dude I've found that tracks down into ECs great lead work on the studio track, so I am really made up to find this!! Thanks man, I mean really you got some feel......would love to see you go to work on Politician!! Jack Bruce. RIP.

Great. A vinyl record dissertation on the Wheels of Fire live version would be wonderful similar to your Live Cream 1&2 which is on KZfaq. I like how you stroll through the phrasing and give analysis and commentary.

Thank You!. I use this as kind of a skeleton to link my blues E licks together. I advanced my playing with this. Thank you again.

I have seen many people demonstrating Cream's "Spoonful" on KZfaq. And most are basic to say the very least. However, your approach by playing along with the studio recording is great. What makes Spoonful work is not so much the basic riff - but the way Clapton added all manner of fills and played around with it - including the occasional end B note (or chord) before the next vocal verse. That B really helps reinforce the 'blues' nature of the song (given it isn't the usual 1-4-5 pattern). Also slipping in the odd sympathetic open low E string whilst soloing helps with the dramatic tension. Thanks also for explaining the studio solo in such detail - you have nailed it!!! Now how about having a crack at the live version from Wheels Of Fire? On that rendition Clapton really improvises around all manner of riffs whilst Bruce is singing the verses. I wouldn't expect you to explain the whole live solo - just perhaps the main song parts. And also my recommendation is the Farewell Concert (video) version and particularly the ending of the song. He closes it off with great tension - going from power chords down to just the basic single open notes played quietly. Check it out - it is absolutely brilliant - you could hear a pin drop!! Thanks again :!)

Oh and by the way - before I forget - have you ever demonstrated "I'm So Glad" from Fresh Cream?

I love most of the songs you teach. Been playing 40+years so I'm no novice. May be the accent and am sure my burned outness don't help it all seems to be going a bit too fast for me. Keep doing what you're doing man, and my slow ass will just have to keep up. Peace!

Loving this. When the album came out, blues guitar went thru the stratosphere. The vibrato, the phrasing, the overtones. No namby-pamby tone this was bold! Mike, pls take a whack at the live Wheels Of Fire version! Posted July 2022.

First off, amazing play on my favorite cream track. What tuning are you using? Are you in standard or half step down? Really great lesson man.

Where else do you discuss that double-fingered technique that you quickly review here c. 9:30? (You say you discuss it in other lessons). Great discussion, tone and feel, not just with the elegant bits above the 12th fret, but especially with those nasty bits in the middle of the neck. Huge thumbs up.

the basic just is he doesn't roll the 3rd finger over much... he overlaps the 2nd & 3rd in the blues boxes.. has a huge effect on note choices and phrasing... hope that helps
