Join ‪@novellenovels‬ and I in this readathon to celebrate and support those with disabilities.
To participate, all you have to do is read any book with disability rep but here are some optional prompts if you want a bit more guidance:
1. Read a book written by an author with a disability
2. Read a book with a character who has an invisible disability
3. Read a non fiction book about disability
4. Read a book featuring disability that isn’t from the contemporary genre
5. Read a book that features disability that affects one of the five senses
6. Read a book featuring disability from a person of colour or from a non western country
7. Read a book with a visible disability
Our group book is The Secrets of Haven Point by Lisette Auton.
We will do a live show both at the start and end of May on the host’s channels and will have some guests joining us to discuss disability. Live show times: TBC

I told myself I'm not doing any readathons next month...but this one is super easy to participate in! (also perfect timing to do another 'disability and illness recs' video!)

Hi, again, to both of you! I finally posted my book recommendations for the Spoonie Readathon. I went a little overboard and ended up with recs for 30 different books, to fit all of your prompts! I'm hoping it will help to raise awareness, as well as a boost for your readathon (albeit it a bit late). Thanks for hosting this wonderful readathon - I've been talking about it in my Friday Reads videos, too!

As someone with dyslexia, dyspraxia AND dyscalculia (WHY do the words for those have to be so hard to spell?! 😂) I hadn’t considered myself disabled but that’s probably because I wasn’t diagnosed until I was in my 30’s and it’s just the way my brain works 🤷🏻‍♀️ This is a fab idea for a readathon, I love it! ☺️💛🥄

I swear whoever named those made them purposefully hard to spell and say because I had to edit out me saying them wrong about 20 times 😂

🥄💜🥄📚 very excited for this - had you playing on the phone in the Kitchen and at "if you are not an adult, why are you on my channel" my 9yr old ran in, because he thought it was hilarious! Really hope to make the Lives, but not the best at this - will definitely be doing a TBR though

I've been getting around in a wheelchair for the past 16 years from a Spinal Cord Injury. Never heard the term Spoonies! It does apply to me because I've had associated chronic pain all that time and energy is limited especially as I get older. While I know a few badasses that get around in wheelchairs I can't think of any in fiction, I'd be interested to hear of some. I still haven't read All the light we cannot see and I was thinking of reading it this months so that's a strong maybe. I read quite a good novel recently called Body Friend by Katherine Brabon that's worth looking up. 🥄

Thanks! Here's hoping more and more books come out! So the Spoon Theory is where the amount of energy a person has in a day is converted into spoons (because spoons are physical and easier to visualise than energy). Everyone starts each day with a fixed number of spoons, and each task you do in the day costs you spoons (low energy tasks cost fewer spoons than high energy tasks). Some people wake up with fewer spoons than others, or completing tasks requires more spoons, and they run out of spoons quicker than other people. So being a spoonie is essentially someone who knows that they have to measure their energy and carefully plan out what they want to do in a day so they have enough spoons (energy) to do everything they plan to - as opposed to someone who is completely healthy and has all the spoons they need to do whatever they plan and more.

I’m definitely participating. Also autistic, and ADHD and diabetic. I’m so keen to see any TBRs and wrap ups so I can see what each person recommends and talks about, especially own voices reviewers. 🥄

🥄. Bummer the group book isn't available in the States. This is perfect timing because Disability Intimacy comes out April 30th.
