Spring is in the air - perfect for spending more time on the road and less time on the indoor trainer.
But, spring can lull you into a false sense of security and conditions can change from balmy to Baltic and dry to downpour in a snap. Before you pop on your summer lycra, you might want to check out some more insulating and protective legwear.
In this video, the Sportful Fiandre No Rain Bib shorts are reviewed by Road Cycling Gear - one everyday, amateur cyclist that purchases the gear for personal use and reports on the experience to help other cyclists choose their gear wisely.

Great review, but still can't decide whether to buy the Sportful or the Castelli Nanoflex.

Minch The Grinch Thanks for checking out the review, hope it helps a little in your choice. For reference, I have both the Sportful and Castelli - if I were buying now, I'd go for the Sportful - if the saving over the Castelli version were substantial. I'm convinced that the performance and comfort of each is pretty much equal

After my soaking yesterday morning, I'm pretty sure waterproof bib tights are going to be a compulsory bit of kit. What's the sizing like with Sportful tights, is it a case of upsizing. Ince again great review, looking forward to seeing more videos 👍

Minch The Grinch Good question! I'm technically a small according to their sizing, but close to the S/M border (same with Castelli). Italian brands often seem to run-up smaller too even when you follow the sizing chart to the letter. The small I tried did feel tight - think it could have been okay, but medium felt more comfortable for sure, so I went with that. No sagging or lose material when I sized up. So, yes I think good idea overall to try one size up.

Hi, I was wondering if you have needed to revive the DWR on your leggings or shorts and if so what did you use? I'm thinking a tech wash and then Nikwax softshell proof spray rather than the wash in? Any suggestions would be great.Paul

Thanks for the review. I heard that the length on these shorts are longer than normal. I am between a S/M but I'm 5"8 64kg. Do you think they might be too long lengthwise?

wilkin what you have heard is right actually. The hem of the shorts comes down the leg slightly further than with other shorts I have. That’s actually a good thing in bad weather. The thicker silicone/Lycra leg bands are very comfortable but do come just above the knee for me when you first put the shorts on. They kind of pull into place, a little further up the leg once you’re on the bike and riding. In no way uncomfortable but, for sure when you first wear them off the bike they appear to ‘wrinkle’ up at the hem, as if too big or too long. Overall that isn’t the case though in my experience, it’s just on first putting them on. I’m 70KG 5”10 and the medium is okay, I could get away with a small. I would definitely recommend a small size based on your height and weight

Thanks for the video! What leg wamers do you pair the bigs with on a wet day?

plainbagel I go with Castelli Nanoflex+ leg warmers. I used to use the Sportful NoRain leg warmers (see separate review on my channel) but the seams rubbed the backs of my knees raw several times. I switched to the Castelli Nanoflex versions and they are perfect - DWR coating, same as the shorts and very comfortable
