A good thing to remember about the “sports card investors” is that just like the investors on the morning Tv shows they need you to invest in what they are pushing in order to for them to get a payout. Example, they need to move a bunch of cards they know are not good. So they tell you to invest in them, you push up the price,they sell before the bottom drops out, big surprise they never tell anybody else to get out before it tanks,you get screwed they get payed. The shenanigans in the card and investment spheres is pretty thick these days and honesty and sincerity seems to go straight out the window the moment the checks start coming in.

Comparing Ohtani to Franco and Elly is disingenuous. Ohtani never broke the law and still has a chance to win MVP. Elly hasn't played a full season yet,there's not enough data to (intelligently) speculate on him. Ohtani is a true 1/1, there's no player past or present to who we can model prices after, I'm 50/50 on whether people who bought in the last couple months should sell or not. If its a regular base card then go ahead an take the loss. If its something rare like a heritage high number than probably hold. The real value in Ohtani cards has been the autos, you can't get an on card Ohtani for less than $1500 anymore, I dont think that will change either.

Wander is a special case. Unless he is 100% exonerated, I don't see his value increasing. It would have to come out that this was a meritless extortion attempt and not "we don't have enough evidence to charge him". Ohtani and Elly are safer options IMO. We know that Elly has the potential to be great. He's going to have to dial in his plate discipline, but it's hard to argue that he's a physical specimen rarely seen in the sport. Ohtani's pitching career may be over, but he proved in Japan that he's perfectly capable of playing in the outfield as well as being DH. I don't think we count him out just yet.

Ohtani is one of the all time greats in terms of potential WAR. There will never be another Ohtani since we don’t allow pitchers to hit. And when he signs for a mega-deal during the off-season (and I’m a Mets fan, sigh) Baseball America projected Ohtani is worth $800m. He won’t net that, but it’s essentially what he is worth as a pitcher and hitter. And for Wander, I’m sure we can package and sell them to NAMBLA in bulk.

Elly hasn’t gotten cold, he plays in streaks. Always has. He’s always strikes out around the 30% mark even in the minors. Definitely can, and should, improve as he gets more at bats in the majors. Inside the park homer, hitting the cycle, stealing home plate, throwing out a runner with 99.8 mph throw, fastest player in the majors, and all of this in under 70 games, not including fastest to reach 10 homers and 20 stolen bases, beating out Barry Bonds. People will say what they want, but Elly is a freak of nature and if you’re not buying you’re missing out
