Sports science is honestly bullshit. One video they say the pitch takes .45 seconds then this video they say .395 seconds. .395 seconds to home equates to a 105 mph pitch. I think there's only been 2 or 3 of those in MLB history. Also, they say that the ball comes off the bat at 120 mph. According to hittrackeronline and MLB statcast, that has only been done 2 times in the last 3 seasons. They just pull numbers out of their ass, which makes me question all the shit they say that I can't fact check.

If you hit a ball 120mph, you just jacked a HR at least 500'. Also, why are the facts on this show so fucking inconsistent? On the LLWS one, the ball reaches the plate in .44 seconds(440 milliseconds) and in this one, it says .395 seconds... This show has very little credibility.

For all these people saying “Home runs don’t even go 120” well, a solid line drive would go faster than a homer, which usually arks in flight. Any line drive homer usually goes 110-120

In cricket,it doesn't matter if you are bowling at 50mph or 90 mph.they may well be equally good bowlers. the spinners who bowl around 50-60 mph compensate the slow bowling with their huge amount of spin. their balls spin like about 60 degrees after bouncing. and that too not in that silly pitch area.the ball may be under the toes or upto the head

baseball is definitely the hardest sport

a better comparison would be the time a signal is sent from an earth station to a satellite (free space of 1/2 a second) and is received by another earth station (another 1/2 second). from pitcher to batter (1/2 second) to third baseman (another 1/2 second). the curious part is how when we observe a pitch that is delivered, then hit and finally caught by a third baseman, it seems a little more than one second has elapsed.

@IamAlastair well actually the maximum amount of time a test match will last is 30 hours spread over 5 days. Its kind of like watching two baseball games a day for a week, easily managed...ODI's are done in 6 hours and T20s are done in under one baseball match. Cool video but the third base is called hot corner because there are more RHB than there are LHB and many of the shots from RHB goes to third base when they pull the ball. Still the hardest position to play though. Ball usually screaming fast, miss and it's a 2B, plus have to throw across the diamond to get the runner. #respect

Reynolds has great range and a great glove, but an inconsistent arm. That's why he was so good at 1st base

yeah didnt mean the DH part, but as for the .300, i was referring to average, instead of OBP, because if your average is .300+ every year, you are an all-star, and that can only mean your OBP is even higher than your average, because...well logic.

1st is my second posistion besides pitch and i do agree with you there also not only the scoops are always tough you have to be ready for pickoffs and if you drop the ball you feel like you suck

@philliesgurl26 the spinners in cricket bowl at 50-60 mph and their ball spins like 60 degrees after bouncing. thats simply unplayable for a newbie or a baseballer. and cricket bat is wider ,that's why 300 runs can be scored easily in cricket. but that doesn't mean batting is easier in cricket as they may face 100 balls even. stamina is required ,not like baseball where you hit a max of 3 times

@WTFisvF Football is not a hard sport to play you just have to be extremely athletic. The great thing about baseball is that its possible for the most athletic person in the world to suck at it.

Mark Reynolds was a sub par fielder when he played 3rd base. You could have gotten a much better fielder than Reynolds for this.

I love baseball and agree with you. However, I don't think you meant to say that the DH in the AL doesn't need to hit to play. That's actually all they do :P Also, saying Hall of Famers fail 7 times out of 10 is false and commonly stated: i would consider getting on base (walks as well as hits) a success, and an OBP of .300 isn't gonna get you on many all star ballots ;)

its been proven that the hardest basic step of any sports is hitting a baseball. basic meaning, you need to hit a baseball to play baseball (besides the exceptional pitcher and DH of the AL). hall of famers fail 7 times out of 10 and are considered the best players in the world. Athleticism is your eyes means how fast a player can run, or how strong they are (qualities of football, which im guessing you support more) arent what we should hold players to athleticism. athletes are skilled players.

Data from both HITf/x and TrackMan show that it is very, very rare for the ball to leave the bat at a speed as high as 120 mph. Such a ball hit at a 30 deg launch angle would travel about 500 ft in the air. VERY RARE. At whatever speed it leaves the bat, it loses about 15% of that speed between home plate and 3B. Sorry, guys, but these are facts.

@indiajag1 Well seeing as how most MLB pitchers are throwing around 95 MPH, I don't think it's a stretch to say they'd be able to handle those bowlers just fine. In fact, there are some pitchers, mostly closers, who can throw around 103 MPH.

They over exaggerate the only person in a while that's done that is Giancarlo Stanton and has the most hits/ home runs at that speed but still definitely an over exaggeration

@philliesgurl26 well , i came to the usa on a holiday for about a month and experienced fair amount of baseball be played. obviously i didn't master the game but got a decent amount of idea about it. i am aware of balls curving sliding dropping etc i wauld be fascinate by this if i had not watched a cricket ball spinning, i am not trying to prove any sport greater, and i was cool with baseball until some of the yanks commented negatively and attacked many of the cricket videos.......

@indiajag1 C'mon... you can't select a player who pitches... it was an average pitcher's throw on either sports... If you select the hardest thrower on cricket, the they may have as well selected the hardest thrower on baseball... but not, they have selected the average throw on baseball...

I love how these Sports Science episodes keep using Mark Reynolds and call him things like, a "master of defending his position" (or some crap like that) and in the other video, a star hitter. Mark Reynolds is an awful defensive player, and one of the most infamous strikeout hitters in baseball history. 120 is an average for power hitter idk bout cricket but baseball bat speed can reach 135 and this had to be filmed at least 3years ago he hasnt even played with the diamondbacks since 2010 and he was a great defender he won a gold glove at third in 09

I think you're looking at cricket. there's no actual "record" for "off-the-bat speed". and.. he said it's 120 coming off the bat, by the time it reaches third it's slower. we all know that he's no master, but he's in the majors playing third.. so that does say he's really good at playing that position.. just saying..

@andros1984 yeah man it's funny that some people perceive it as being a slower pace...I see it as tension and release...especially if it's a really important game like a late season wildcard decider or the last game of the al/nlcs nothing was a better example of that tension and release than when the sox beat oakland in the alds in 03...I was living in boston at the time and everyone was glued to their tvs biting their nails, then after the last pitch was thrown everything exploded

I feel you I think 1st is just a little harder on my end because I also get hot shots from Lefty's and I also have to "scoop" or "dig" a throw in the dirt from the other fielders especially 3rd basemen. Now granted I know when you make a play and throw from behind the bag it's not easy so I don't mind them.
