Another great person to interview Geoff. Just one small thing though mate... when you interview people can you please let them speak more?! If you value their opinion enough to invite them on the show, then let them share it! Your best interview so far in this regard was the soccer one... because you were asking questions and learning from your guest just as we were. You let them speak and share their insights a lot better than other interviews. I hope this is seen as "constructive criticism," and not as trolling. You have an awesome channel and a lot of knowledge. Keep it up!

Loved the interview. Joe had a lot of great information. I do have one piece of advice. I noticed you like to talk a lot. But when you're interviewing somebody you should let them do most of the talking. A lot of the times Joe would be answering a question and you would just cut him off and talk over him.

Great content, thank you. I’d suggest letting guest talk more. You can make a video on same topic with your thoughts. When you have a guest, they should talk more than you, even though your input was valuable as well. Would just be optimal in a separate video and better for your channel as well. Just my .02. Overall, please keep it up I’m learning a lot and there isn’t much good content in this space 👊🏻

I like the idea of grading services but few things concern me. 1. Say I send in a card in a bulk submission but 5 other people send in the same card, how do they know which one is mine if they get similar grades? 2. Say I send in a card that's possible high 9 low 10.. how do I know you won't swap out that card with one of your own that gets a lower grade but still very comparable and I wouldn't the difference and you kept the higher graded card? Just some things I think about.

Great video, very knowledgeable and interesting takes on grading, used psa for a while, never been a fan of bgs, but always good to see both points of view, I plan on using sgc for some more of my pc stuff, just for cost and turnaround time, but will always stick to psa for investment type things and generally for my pc, I have also had luck snapping cards out and resubbing and the grades have gone up in some cases, barely ever send the card still in the slab

I appreciate the enthusiasm you bring to your channel. I have collected cards for 25 years , every year of that 25 year run for that matter, and I’ll tell you the one biggest mistake you keep making is telling people how to invest in individual cards. Going into specifics on individual cards with subsequent short term market value data is extremely dangerous and stupid. There are young kids watching your channel (and many others like yours) that are being made to think buying Sports Cards is about MAKING MONEY. You and I both know long term, there’s no money in almost all individual cards if it’s not in a sealed hobby box. So what happens, is all these young kids watching you talk about profit and card value from a business perspective, are going to be very discouraged and disappointed in a few years or maybe less when they start having difficulty selling their purchases. Investment in Sports Cards, if you’re a true collector, isn’t meant to be sold short term, they’re meant to be traded (if at all) if someone else has a card you want for a specific reason (not money related). Teach them about the sport, the players, the statistics, and you will win here. Talk about last nights game. Talk about VORP. Talk about draft picks in 2021. But don’t talk about cards as an investment. It’s just wrong!!!

Joe Davis is the best guest commentator that you had on the channel to date. His knowledge and experience automatically earns him trust along with credibility. Great topic and well navigated discussion on Sportscard Grading. Timing is significantly important in Grading, so people should realize what is the potential of cards being Submitted before purchasing already Graded cards like you mentioned with Luka Doncic and Trae Young RCs from 2018-19. If people realize that there are approximately 100,000 Base RCs of each Player from 2019-20 Panini Prizm, then I wonder if they would be chasing as much as they are. Yes, there are a lot more Collectors in Sportscard today than ever - Panini has manufactured to Demand, so the Silver, Green, Ruby Wave, Red/White/Blue, Orange Ice, Red Ice and Pink Ice should all be plentiful even as everyone is chasing Colored Prizms. Sticking to Panini Prizm Serial Numbered 500 or less might be the best option for this year’s product. 🤓🏀🌎

I believe Panini doesn't get the reputable respect that other distributors do. I just heard that the MLB doesn't recognize them as an well authenticated company like they do Topps, Fleer, and etc but the MLB Union does? (Never researched to see how true that is) I assume that's why a lot of their 1/1s like keaf metal and etc aren't as valuable as other well known companies that put out 1/1s but I admired my (already incased) Trevor Lawrence 1of1 I have from Panini

PSA doesn't sleeve the cards. I don't collect anymore; my 9-year-old does now. The black label BGS is tough. My son is always asking me to break out the loop. 😅 I think think the new SGC is pretty solid too. I spent 6 years grading...with a big 3. I have let my son down a time or two....letting him know that card is a counterfeit, power erased, or trimmed. This video is great. Authentic. He collects anything Rams and doesnt care about value. The difference is being able to drive to drop off. I often wish I could start a pregrade company. You guys rock. BVG has always been theosr thorough on T cards. He moved into collecting Stars players, but it's all modern. He is reallt wanting the OPChee Wayne though

One thing I noticed is that younger, high end basketball card collectors tend to prefer the BGS slabs. The thicker, more expensive basketball RPAs seem to show better and feel more “high end” in the BGS holders. I’ve also heard younger collectors say that all cards after 2000s should be BGS slabbed.

I have a good chunk of my cards graded by the big three: SGC, Beckett and PSA. I'm primarily a vintage sports cards collector. I've taken my vintage Beckett (BVG, NOT that BCCG crap! But BVG) cards into a few different card shops and I've had the clerk tell me that BVG isn't as respected as Beckett (the Beckett for the newer post 1980 cards). I then have to explain to these clerks that the 1960s and 1970s BVG graded cards I'm showing him never had the opportunity to get graded by the "new" Beckett b/c they're older than 1981. It's beyond belief that I've had three clerks at 3 different shops over the last five years make this mistake: essentially thinking that old pre 1981 cards can get graded by "new" Beckett when they can only get graded by BVG! It drives me bonkers!

Based on population reports, I cannot understand why some PSA graded cards continue to bring premium prices and why they are the preferred grading service for so many investors. When comparing population reports for BGS, SGC, and PSA, there is almost always a much higher population, both in total number and the percentage of the total, of graded cards that are PSA 10s. For example, the Mike Trout rookie (2011 Topps Update #US175 base card) has PSA grading over 67 percent of cards as a 10, while BGS's rate is almost 4.5 percent, and SGC is 28 percent. Ken Griffey Jr's 1989 Upper Deck rookie card population has a PSA 10 grade for over 5 percent of the total population, BGS is less than 1/3rd of a percent, and SGC is just over 3 percent. When I compared the population reports to newer cards graded by each company, PSA has a much higher percentage cards graded at a 10 than either BGS or SGC and having a PSA 10 grade at or over 70 percent of the total is very common. This is the same when looking at the total population of almost any given set. When comparing population reports, a BGS and SGC 9.5 should have about the same value as a PSA 10 based on the percentage of total cards graded (see note below). But there seems to be a stigma with a grade of 9.5 even though the quality of the card could be the equivalent or even exceed a PSA 10. When I see a PSA 10, I wonder if that card would get a BGS black label, an SGC gold label, or a 9.5 from either. I'll watch KZfaq videos of collectors submitting cards to PSA because they don't want a BGS or SGC 9.5. It's the same as college students choosing courses based on the grading policies and the amount of work required by professors and trying to take the easier path (and yes, I was guilty of this). My concern has less to do with PSA's grading standards and more to do with how the market may eventually adjust to PSA graded cards and the impact it may have on both card investors and collectors. One feature that draws collectors and investors is the rarity of a card and this includes a card with an uncommonly high grade when compared to the rest of its graded population. But if 70 percent of a specific card is a PSA 10, then how unique is that card and how much value does that grade add? If the total population of a set has a 70 percent PSA 10 grade, then how much value does that add to even a numbered parallel? Just as an example, as of today (Dec 5), 2019 Panini Prizm Draft Picks basketball has a total population of 76 graded cards of which 50 (66 percent) are graded as a 10. I thinks it is safe to speculate that as more cards are submitted and that population grows, the percentage of PSA 10s will not deviate too far from its current percentage and eventually, there will be an overwhelming number of PSA 10s compared to BGS and SGC. As the hobby has grown and card grading has grown, it's just a matter of time before population reports play a much bigger role when determining the market price of a card. I'm afraid that, at some point, the market going to consider a PSA 10 the grading equivalent of a participation trophy and adjust prices accordingly. There is the old saying that 'The market, is the market, is the market' which loosely translated means 'the market isn't always fair or rational, it just is what it is'. Ultimately, the market is made the actions of humans. I believe at some point, both collectors and investors are going to look at the population of PSA graded cards and are going to adjust. I don't believe there will a catastrophic bubble burst, but some investors are going to get a rude awakening. Note: SGC did not assign a grade of 9.5 until 2019 when they revamped their grading system.

Great advice...I do a lot of the same by buying sets and then holding onto most base...example: look at the 80's and 90's, lots of Hall Of Famers in those sets, you don't need to to get a psa 10 on a Griffey Jr to get your value, there's Maddux, Bo, Clemens, Boggs, Gwynn, Puckett, Mattingly, McGuire, Canseco and many others that you can get your return on from a complete set...the main issue during that time period is the centering...if you can master the centering on 2 out of 20 HOFers then you got your value back from buying the set usually...more than that or even psa 9's for some players then is a bonus
@Al-ImprovEd2022
@Al-ImprovEd2022 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for writing that. I've been wondering about buying sets because there are A LOT Of people getting rid of their sets from 80-90's on Craigs List. But does it have to be the Rookie Card for your theory to work? I auctioned a 1990 Griffey SGC 9 and only got one bid for $2! I've been mentioning centering in my description title on ebay. Doesn't seem to make a difference. It's more about is there some person who wants that card for any reason. I have found graded sell faster. Hard to make money though once you've paid for graded on a non star card.

In my opinion, SGC doesn't hold the actual value unless it's an older vintage (T205, T206, 50's, 60's), yes it's cheaper but not by much...on the newer stuff, you need 9's and 10's at minimum to get any value, if the player is a top notch or a hot rookie then I'd auction, if he's just a star then your better off doing a buy now and sitting on it, if not you'll lose a lot with the ebay fees...some cards I sell, I only make a $1-2 on, I generally sell to make $3-5 on, every now and then if a player is hot and you list it, there's a crazy bidding war (example: I listed a Fried rc auto psa10 last year about a month into the season, he started off hot but I knew he was gonna cool off as most rc's go into a slump, listed at $19.99, had a bidding war and sold for $40+, you never know)...it only takes 2-3 people to have a bidding success...depending on what you list it at, if you only get one bidder then you lose unless you list it at say $14.99, where you have $10 into it and then minus ebay fees...I list some cards twice a month at what I want to get out of it, sometimes it takes 4-6 months to sell but I'm ok with that because I didn't lose on the card...I see some guys grade a lot and sure they make $15-20 on a lot but they really don't make much after fees when they sell a bunch for $3-5...for me it doesn't make sense, at worse list it at $9.99 and just sit on it...Star player cards usually go up in value, some slow some fast, list it right and be patient...for 1970's and before, let it sit for the price you want and be patient

Oh ya, be careful of buying put together sets, most will be a little surface worn and a lot have bad corners, they usually don't grade well...your better off buying a sealed box and taking your chance, rather than buying a put together set, and getting a psa 8 out of it...heck, for some older stuff, I've even been happy buying a pack for a chance, you hit great every now and then and other times you get a goose egg

TD Sports Cards Thanks guys for the feedback. New to eBay and learning. Same deal for COMC and what about Etsy?

COMC has some great deals...you see when you send cards to COMC, you can't get them back unless you buy them, kind of a hitch, so when you send them in, the main idea is to just sell them and not grade them, so for a no namer that becomes a star you pretty much just have to let it go, so there are psa 10 quality cards in that inventory along with others that lost track of their pricing and what they had...I've even seen a Brady rc bought and come back a psa 9 on the cheap...learn to look at centering and corners in the pictures, the surface you just don't know...there's deals out to find

I'm very curious to see how the addition of NFTs will affect card grading prices... At the moment, their prices are very steep, but owning a card that doesn't rely on expensive grading costs is appealing...

Anyone know the process of how they seal BCCG cards? Or how you can tell is the slab has been tampered with.

How do you send the card in? Like do you ship it in a box or envelope? I feel like it could get damaged by doing this just because an envelope can bend and a box can let the card slide around and damage corners

I think that these card grading companies have too long of a wait time and has way too biased grades as they are graded by humans whoa re subjective. I suggest you use AGS to grade your cards without bias. Their AI robot allows the cards to be graded without any opinion and since the system is automated, the time to return the cards is much shorter!

For PSA/DNA, do you think a PSA submission for grading the autograph, ie, PSA 10 Auto Authentic adds more value than a PSA/DNA Auto Authentic without a number grade? I have a card that has an Autograph that is PSA authentic but doesnt had a numeric grade, but the condition of the card is a PSA 10. Do you think the value of my card PSA 10 Auto Authentic is less than the value a card that is PSA 10, with Auto 10, 9, 8, etc?

Grading companies should start a digital uploading service for prescreening. That way it would save alot of off centered cards from being submitted. I understand a full assessment can't be done this way but high resolution photos should give graders some idea if the card is worth grading or not.

Hey Joe hey Goeff Question that I have, I bought a really beautiful Raw #ed to 25, Illusions, 2018 Lamar Jackson, RPA, it looks great.. The only thing I find wrong, the patch has a snag in it and it's a little frayed. Would it be OK for me to, trim it off myself, or, ask the grading service company to handle it, before they grade it? For now, since i only have this 1 card that needs grading, ill send it direct, but, when i accumulate a pile, im seriously considering sending them through Joe, sounds like a better way to go(FYI). Thanks, I sincerely appreciate your reply back, in advance.
