We're excited to announce that this year Sportscraft is turning 100!
It was a young Russian immigrant Woolf Bardas who founded Sportscraft in 1914, and laid the foundations for what was to become one of Australia's most enduring and trusted lifestyle brands.
Woolf's vision was inspired by the Australian way of life and his own love of sport, as well as a focus on craftsmanship and understanding the value of quality fabric and a good cut.
From humble beginnings as a door to door tailoring business, Sportscraft's century long legacy spans across three generations of Bardas men who built the company into the great Australian retail success story it is today.
In 2000 Apparel Group acquired Sportscraft, recognising the strong heritage of a great Australian brand. Since then the business, and along with it the Sportscraft brand, has grown from strength to strength.
Today Sportscraft's retail footprint has grown to over 220 locations across free standing stores, David Jones, Myer, Ballantynes New Zealand and online. It is a business that on average sells a shirt every minute and a pair of pants every two minutes. We often wonder what Woolf would make of his business today.
Throughout 2014, Sportscraft will be celebrating our colourful and proud history, culminating in our anniversary celebration in August, 2014. We can't wait to celebrate with you!
